i saw derek in concert about two years ago in columbus and he said this song was to his wife, sandra.

Do you think hes talking to his wife in this song, or to jesus? I know for me, I relate it to Jesus. I pray this song out in my own life. But what do you guys think?

ive had that same question. I think the song is being sung to his wife, because he refers to her by the line, "darlin' could you listen just once more?" That makes me think that it is for his wife, but we can still pray this song, and it is such a good prayer. God Bless.

@skuzzel It really doesn't have to be boiled down to something so simplistic as having to be to one or the other. Many times words can be used with multiple levels of meaning, all correct.
