  • it is pretty simple cuz if i can do it to my four wheelier and i am 13

  • When i shut the fourwheeler off a gas smelling smoke comes from airbox has your atv done that before you adjusted the a/f mixture because i think thats wat it is I have the same atv doing the same project

  • @brando123j Humm not real sure, that could just be normal, but if its running to rich I guess it could do that to. Trial and error is how I figure most things out.. Try ajusting it, if it gets better, the there ya go.. if it gets worse, make sure you keep track of what you change so you can go back to what it was.

  • What did you use to seal the vac hose around the pipe?

  • @brando123j

If your referring to the blue hose on my second video, Black RTV sealant, its a gasket cement.

  • 1996

  • what year is this quad

  • you know that, hose i guess that goes from the front of the air box your dad said has a bad rep for coming off? yeah well mine is off and i can't find a way to get it back on.. any suggestions?

  • hella nice dude :)

i think i just found my new project on my arctic cat 250

  • Havent checked other comments, but did you think about just taking the airbox out completely and running the pipe from the carb up through the front and having a cold air intake from a car (advanced autoparts $20) at the end? dunno how it would look but sounds a little easier

  • @berett315

Yes, and no it wouldn't work, the carburetor needs a certain volume of air to run right. I'm not saying it wouldn't run, but it don't think it would ever run right, and may not want to idle.

  • @berett315 u would just need to rejet the carb, so no it wouldnt be easier but it would work if u tune it right.

  • haha i was just about to suggest flex tube.

  • ok i got a way easyer way of snorkling i ride at crosby tx aND PUT MY PRAIRIE 400 UNDER WATER WHERE ALL OU CAN SEE IS SNORKLE AND HANDLE BARS WHEN YOU RUN YOUR 90 OFF OF YOUR AIR BOX GO TO A HARDWHERE STORE AND GET VACUME HOSE AKA FLEX HOE AND SILACONE IT INSIDE YOUR 90 AND RON IT TO YOUR FRONT RACK USING TIE AOS TO HOLOD IT TO THE FRAME

  • @PaulaandBobby

I was dead set on running hard pipe for my first attempt on they bayou, plus I was running real close to the exhaust pipe. I was afraid vacuum hose would get to hot. Later on I discovered the convenience of flex hose, I agree It is much easier to work with if it fits your application.

  • Nice im building 1 for my suzuki lt 185 1986 cant wait

  • can u post a comment of the list of items u need to do that? i have bayou 250, i want to do it.

  • @karatekidds

I doubt I could come up with an accurate list of parts now. Its all 1.5 in pipe and fittings. Look at the beginning of the video, that's everything I used.

  • this will realy help me ty

  • if the pipe starts to melt put a plate of steel between it and the exzaust

  • ''Alright, when to Lowes." lol i got a old bayou 300, needs new bore and stuff.

  • iVE GOT SOMETHING like that..do i need to do anything with all those tubes hanging out the bottom of my quad..they are all sticking out of the engine and stuff???

  • @JSEXY1818 yes you do. you have to run your carburetor, differential, and your gas tank vent lines to your handle bars. so i recommend you go to auto zone and ask for about 10 ft of vent hose. look at my video and you can kind of get an idea. its called almost done! part 2

  • have any problems like melting pipe or more than normal dirt on the air filter?

  • Nope, no problems with heat, even riding in 90-95 deg weather, and no more dirt than normal for the air filter.

  • i live in tn and there is snow mudd and heat and i ride mine alot i have a bayou 250 also i plan on puting on an exhaust snorkle

  • I wanting to put a snorkel on my yamaha, do you have any problems with water going into the exhaust to the engine? How many of what parts you recommend getting?

  • Yes, if the engine shuts off, as long as its running you usually you don't have that problem. It happen to me a couple times, so I did install an exhaust snorkel.

  • were the pvc is next to the exhaust pipe you shuld heat wrap the exhaust pipe

  • So far even riding all day in 90 to 95 degree heat, it hasn't bothered that section of the snorkel at all :)

  • Just an idea and please take no affence to this.

ever thought about rippin the airbox out all together, thered be less cutting and would prolly make the whole job a little easier... then just stick a pod filter on the end of your snorkel and that makes filter maintance easier coz you dont have to remove your seat and plastics to get to it.

  • that's a good idea I didn't think of. I'm not sure how the carburetor would run without the air volume from the air box, but if it worked that would make pluming the snorkel much easier.

  • hey i have a bayou 220 also and i was wondering the biggest tire i could put on the rear with no prolbem does anybody know???

  • do u think it would work 4 a bayou 250?

  • it would definately work cause its the same engine

  • does anyone know if u have to connect a snorkel to the airbox or if u can just connect it to the air intake in the front of the fourwheeler?

  • Yea lol if you have to extend your carburater lines on the side of your carb and you also need to extend your crank case line or water will get in your bottom end

  • i wud cean your airbox and then silicone the lid

  • Did you have to re jet and can you watch my snorkel video to help me out with snorkeling it

  • hey i have noticed on other vids people have three pipes coming out of the fender and you only have one?????

  • Some bikes require venting for the transmission, like most belt driven ATV's. Your Honda only needs 1 snorkel, unless you plan on adding 1 for all the vent tubes, then you have 2 :)

  • hey, man great vid but i dont think ill have enough room on my honda 350 rancher. you know how honda is japanese make things so small and compact.

  • hey now all u need is a k&n air filter. it helps out so much

  • why are snorkels u'd at the top?

  • helps keep the rain out... also mud water and trash the bike in front of you kicks up. :)

  • hey cool vid, wish my dad would buy me a new 4 wheelr to do this on : /

  • I would try it on an old one first... lol

  • hey man thanks a lot ill try to send you a pic of my snorkel i jus put on my 360 its badass

  • i have a few questions first how much pipe did you use? second how tall can your snorkel go or does it matter?

  • 2 stick's, I used all of 1 and half of the second. about half the other hardware I took back to Lowes.

  • Opps I missed your second question, It dont get in the way of the handle bars so I guess as tall as you want it, but you may run into some tuning issue. Like Re-jetting the card.

  • so how did you figure out the pipe size. im looking into snorkeling my Polaris ranger. im not sure what size pipe to use. could you help? thanks! and cool video!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, based on what I've seen from other snorkel's I went with the 1 1/2 pipe that seemed to be the most common setup. Their was no real math behind it, just installed it the best way I could come up with and hoped for the best :) LOL

  • u think a dynojet kit would b good?

  • Yea that actually sounds like a good idea. that takes some of the guess work out.. and if stage 1 don't do it, you can bump it up a stage :)

  • well i was thinking of rejetting it anyway for bigger tires, but hopefully the build will go good this saturday lol

  • can u do this to a recon 250, is 1 1\2 in pipe good to use?

  • I'm sure you could.. and I don't see why 1 1/2 would not work. You may have to re-jet the carb some, but you wont know unless you try.

  • do the handelbars hit this snorkel or will they if you make it taller??

  • No they will not hit.

and the Cement is Oatey All Purpose Cement..

  • how important is it to seal all the pipes on ur bike

  • Depends on the pipe. Drowning the air intake can lead to a top end rebuild, if the crankcase vent goes under you will get dirty water in your engine, and you will have to clean it or rebuild.

  • So I have a honda rancher 420 and I was wondering how many and what size should the snorkel or snorkels be?

  • well, if you have a 420, I would suggest you buy one that's already been designed for the bike.. this takes all the guess work out of it. Do Google search for 420 snorkel kits, you should find several different ones to chose from.

  • ok thanks man i'll tell you how mine works.

  • i have a bayou like yours but no snorkel yet, it got under water up to the seat and it shut off and wouldnt crank, i was wondering if you had the same problem before i believe it just needs to drain but could you please let me know if thats right.

  • yea, let it drain, and also take the air filter out, then squeeze the water out of the filter.

  • I'm new to atv's i guess.? My question is do you take the air filter the yellow thing out when you snorkel it?

  • No, you need that if you want your bike to last any amount of time. The air filter is necessary.

  • u can go in as deep of water u want to go in as long as it doesnt go over that pipe

  • so u had no leaks in the pipes

  • No leaks.. they only issue I had was around the Air box lid... A little adjusting fixed that problem

  • alright. but i was think of gettin' a grizzly, just for the more power. and if i did decide to put a exghust pipe on, wouldnt she have to be made from metal?

  • Yes, it has to metal pipe. :)

  • im going to try and put a snorkel kit on my polaris, but dont you need a pipe for the exghust too? or do you just need one for the air intake?

  • Well, I did, but it was more because i have a hard time keeping it running while in the water. If you have to fire it back up while in the water you will need the exhaust snorkel. If your bike idles well, while the exhaust is submerged then i would not worry about it.

  • I have a Bayou and ive been wanting to snorkel it.. woul i need to re-jet the carbeurator if i did this?

  • I would say yes. After fooling around with mine a bit, I found going from a 115 get to a 120 jet helped with a stumble I was getting.

  • is there any way you could post a video of the 2nd way to make the snorkel or no?

  • I think its much mucho easier with a central vac hose 2 because you dont need any glue plus its easier to put it in tight spots.

  • Yes, I agree. I learned this lesson on the 2nd snorkel I installed " Same bike"

  • Thanks man for answering to my "tip" and by the way nice looking bike and also by using the central vac or electrical vac or whatever its harder for it to fail because no connections are needed nor glue. :) keep making great videos like this one!!! se ya!!

  • sweet 72 camaro, dude. and would the snorkel kit create better breathing for your atv than the factory setup?

  • Well, that's a tricky question. With the first snorkel, no. But the second one I added gave the bike about the same air flow as the factory setup. Keep in mind on the bayou, it has 2 rather large holes in the Lid that it gets air from, it had very little restriction to start with. So its going to take a good bit of volume from the snorkels to equal what it was tuned from the factory to run at.

  • why didnt you just tack the body off? but any wayz im gonna try this nex year on a polairis sportsman 90.

  • I really didn't want to take the bike that far apart, plus, with the body off, I may have ended up routing the snorkel where it conflicted with the body once I bolted it back on. But yes it would have been easier in some ways.

  • Nice, putting one on my Prairie soon.

Sweet car in the back by the way, is that a Camaro?

  • Thanks for the compliments, and yea, its a 72 Camaro

  • you can make 1 of theas in a few days yet you could buy 1 for $600 that would take you 1 day...

  • LOL, very true. The big question is? Is it easier to spend Days or Dollars, I guess it really depends what you can afford. For me I had no other option, no company out their makes a snorkel for this bike, And making it myself was a lot more fun.

  • wow thats pretty cool i would love to do that to my bayou but my dad would kill me because usally when i take some thing apart (like some thing confusing not like this) i could not make it run or put it back toghether

  • haha! same story for me!

  • kool, i might do that to my bayou

  • Its a 1 1/2 inch connector, they make the same connector in the black pipe, I just happen to have one in white so I used it. It dose not self seal against the air box, so you will need to use some type of High temp sealant on the connector.

  • I was wonder were you cut the hole in the airbox what was that white piece you used to keep water from leaking into the airbox.....?

  • get a video of you testing that puppy out

  • LOL..I guess I need to get it crossing my Neighbors pond, I'll see what I can do :)

  • nice video i learned a lot ty

  • Well, I did a lot of riding with the snorkel on the last video I posted from Carolina Adventure world. In my opinion you don't "HAVE" to have 2 snorkels (one on each side) but the performance will be better if you do. The 1 snorkel worked just fine for me, it didn't give me a moment's trouble climbing hills, running flat out, or digging through a mud hole. P.S. (Tip for you, make sure you seal that connector in the air box good)

  • yes um dont u need to holes one on each side or just the one will do fine

  • Thanks for the VID i hope 2 do that 2 my bayou but my dad will prob say no so yeah but man thanks for the vid i didnt no it was that simple THANKS

  • Thanks.. and its a 96 year model :)

  • my grandfather has the same bike! is that a 98? i wanna put a snorkel on it but he doesn't like it going in deep water =/ good job, thats a badass little bike

  • nice well how dose she run any leakes

    ????

  • I had a couple to start with, I ended up adding a little extra Hi temp silicone gasket sealer "The blue stuff" around the fitting in the air box, problem solved. The rest of the assembly was tight, no leaks. I've had it to 1 park riding and it performed very well for what it is. I jumped in some holes what without the snorkel I would have been screwed... LOL

  • LOL ty im gonna go 2mrrow and get some stuff... im gonna cut 2 holes in the air box one on each side and add a Y and have 2 on each side of the fender.... so wish me luck also i had a guy tell me that when you put a snorkel your gas/air mix gets wacked so he said put a jet kit

  • p.s nice car

  • how deep of water can u go thru without damage now? and is an exhaust snorkel necassary?

  • Well, she floats real well, I took it through a mud pit at C.A.W and floated to the other end, LOL. So I guess you could say as long as you don't force the snorkel under water you're good. Second answer, YES. I ended up with an exhaust snorkel also. I took it to the pond at my place to test it out, well she cut off and water ran back up the exhaust flooding it. If you're engine don't shut down your good, but I'm not taking that chance out in the middle of nowhere.

  • yea i have one a bit newer and it floats very well too except theres been times when it has tipped over with me and water got in my intake but the snorkels should help...my goal is make the baddest bayou possible...thanks for your help

  • thanks thats a really good job im gonna do that instead of paying hundreds of dollars on one.

  • Your welcome, and thanks for the Props :) In my case this was the only option I had, no one makes a kit for my Bayou. I agree with the saving money, why pay a lot of money for something you can do yourself with a little work.

  • yeah, no one makes anything for the bayou.. i cant find a snorkel, an exhaust, or decent tires

  • very helpful thanks

  • well mine has a tibe comin from the bottom of the box and comin out by the handle bars, but underneath the fender. everything is stock, ill figure it out

  • Do you have to run it from the box, or can you just run it from one of the intakes?

  • Well, I guess if you could figure out a way to hook up to the factory holes in the air box cover then yes. But the way the intake/air filter box is set up I don't think their's a way. With the material available from your local parts house I think the pipe in the side of the air box was the best solution for me. I have tried it out since the video, and it performed very well. I have lost some performance due to air restriction. I am considering adding another snorkel on the left side to fix this
