  • Love Margaret Sullavan. Sensitive actress who delivered some very affecting performances in some lovely movies. RIP.

  • Talented, tragic Maggie Sullivan. Anybody who's ever seen her onscreen in "Shop Around the Corner," "The Mortal Storm," and "Next Time We Love," all opposite her good friend Jimmy Stewart, or on stage in such hits as "Voice of the Turtle," knows what a terrific performer she was, one who became a victim of her own personal demons at a far too young age.

  • what year was this?

  • 50.dollor even back then doesn't seem like a lot of money.

  • She was married to William Wyler & Henry Fonda before marrying Broadway impresario Leland Hayward. They had 3 children & divorced after 10 years. Oldest daughter, Brooke, wrote a book about the family in 1977 called Haywire--great reading!

  • I loved shop around the corner with Margaret and Jimmy Stewart.

  • that is one of my very favorite movies!

The whole cast, the music and direction, makes it perfect!

  • As much as I would like to respond with how great she was and what roles I loved her in, and I did totally adore her in Shop Around The Corner, I have to say what a tragedy it was that even the most famous of people back then had no real access to proper mental health treatment beyond the highly addictive barbiturates. Even so, take Robert Downey Jr. for instance. He was like a yo-yo but was able to overcome even a highest of mental health self treatments partly because of public acceptance.

  • Very interesting....as Arte Johnson would say! I was never a big fan of this lady, but she could be quite effective in the right role. Sad that she suffered later in life from depression, taking her own life eventually with an overdose of sleeping pills. Those bangs remind me of Jane Wyman! MANY thanks for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! :)

  • I've never seen this before! Thank you so much for uploading!

  • Margaret Sullavan is my all time favorite actress. She taught Jimmy Stewart alot about how to act in front of a camera. "Next Time We Love" is the first movie that Jimmy played in with a leading lady. I'm glad it was Margaret Sullavan.

  • Jimmy Stewart had a crush on her ever since their days together in college theatre productions. She knew it but preferred treating him as an adored brother.

Ironically, they both lost most of their hearing as they aged. Whereas it made her depressed, Jimmy worked hard to fight it and overcome acting hazards.

  • Actually,it was more than a crush. Also,James Stewart didn't have hearing problems until he was almost in his 70's,but Margaret Sullavan's hearing problems started in her 40's.

  • She is adorable and TINY!! Whenever I watch these old shows and see how slim all the ppl were back then I feel like big fat pig lol! Just read about her on Wiki -amazing person and such a sad, tragic ending.

  • A lovely actress, but a troubled woman.
