This is actually whitewashing a slave auction. She would not have been merely reprimanded for asking about her children lol. This is very much an extremely light exposure on slavery. It does hurt people to see this side, though this is only a portion of what happened. The horrible sexual and physical acts that happened. Also, most of the slaves were not as educated as these reinactors.

removing comments you dont like is censorship. it defeats the whole point of freedom. The only problem I have with this is the actors are using future site. These actors sound educated and slaves were not educated. With any part of living history Its the duty of the person portraying to capture the character. It is amazing that these were weekly occurrences in many American cities for more than 200 years and how recent it was. There is video/audio of surviving slaves from the 1930s. For millions of us we DRIVE BY the places where these auctions were held, and all of them a short walk to churches.

I think all cities where these occurred should stage re-enactments yearly to combat the "they were just like family" notion, or to remind what sorts of things were once "traditional Christian values".

I heard on a podcast from Colonial Williamsburg that they once tried staging a reenacted slave auction and the African American actors were all for it because it was a part of the history, but after once doing it they were disturbed enough not to do it again. Even this was pretty harsh to watch, so I don't think I'd want to watch a reenacted auction either.
