The accompanying chords are similar to the chords found in the transcription of Beautiful Love in The Real Book 5th edition. Did you use this book to improvise or are the accompanying chords to the melody the standard?
Be my jazz teacher DOUG!!!! Absolutely lovely, lyrical voicings and incredible dynamics and rephrasing. Really handy commentary too! Do you come up to Sydney for concerts often? I'll be there!
Doug- you make this beautiful song- lyrical that sings in itself Toots ( the composer) ought to be pleased with your rendition. Shirley Horn's version is an excalmation mark too with her measured pauses in her phrasing filled with soul. Has Michelle tried this one? She has the voice and the resonance for it
Fantasticly inspiring. Thanks for all the advice when you play. Your comments are very, very useful, and exactly what I have been looking for since I started playing several years ago. :)
funny i was learning this tune after listening to joe henderson do it ,and here it is in all its glory broken down for us, bob you are a genius, not only helping piano men but sax players aswell, your ideas get my head racing to play ,thanks..chaz
I love those block chords at the 9 second mark using 4ths. You mix and match tonalities and passing chords so effortlessly. Finishing your RH line on the 6th as you do at 1:10 (B on the D7 chord) is such a great sound. 1:37 - 1:39 tasty blues lick and then the McCoy sound at 2:04 is dead on. You illustrate so many devices in this video that I can confidently say there is an entire symposium on jazz piano playing within this one song. It will take me months to dissect and digest. Thank you.
Dear Doug ,Thank you so much for all you do.Best Wishes from Texas.

Beautiful!!!...just wondered why you play E for the melody in measure eleven.....all other melody notes seem to be as Young intended.
