Actually the answer is YES. Civil unions provide the same rights(or more precise privileges) to gays except the official title. Gays aren't being tortured. Elton John and many 1000s of other gays are quite happy with their domestic partnerships and civil unions. They don't need the title of marriage and 1/7 of gays opposes it being granted anyway.

Anti gay religious should be deprived from adopting children. You cannot predict if a child will be gay, and statistics show 10% turns out to be gay. It must be MUTUALLY agreed upon and per restrictions and requirements a license gets issued. If its a privilege, then why don't serial killers have it taken away, or rapists, they can still marry if someone else agrees to it. Marriage is obviously a right that was taken away from these people, and the 14 amendment states the the government shall make no law that shall abridge the rights of its citizens, which means that even putting it on the ballot was unconstitutional.

Serial killers and rapists don't get to marry if they are imprisoned per the 5th Amendment. Marriage isn't a right as two(sometimes more) must AGREE to it and legal restrictions must be overcome and requirements must be met.

It's all the more reason why a person doesn't have the right to marry. In fact the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution states that if the US Constitution is silent on a matter it is left up to the Congress and the states. The US Constitution itself is silent on marriage, although case law has been consistently for marriage as 1 man: 1 woman per the case against the Mormons in 1890 and Loving Vs. Virginia in 1967. So putting it on the ballot in CA was constitutional per the 10th Amendment anyway.

OK. Lets go again. I am from Greece. The ancient Greeks were really open minded about sexuality. Dionysos was the god of wine. No one is talking about people's life-styles. If 4 gay men of 4 gay women have a polymorous relationship in their private lives, that isn't being objected to. If they decided to get married based upon their polymorous life-style then it is a public matter and concerns whether children should be raised with 4 gay men or 4 gay women being the same as a mother and a father as 4 gay men don't allow for a woman and 4 gay women don't allow for a man.

I didn't state that certain straight people would not negatively affect children. I stated that children would be negatively affected w/o a father figure or a mother figure as children need both. Expanding the ideal from father/mother/children to two mothers or two fathers would deprive children of a mother figure or father figure inevitably in the home. If you disagree w/that, so be it, but you would be a fool to go against millions of years of evolution from fathers and mothers raising kids.

Children are emotionally and somatically to their mothers because they have brought them to life until the first weeks. After they done with the breast-feeding process, children depend of their prime care giver which could be a female or a male. What children are looking for is trust and love. The Ancient Greeks, Chinese, Romans, and Japanese all had laws that pertained to marriage. I am not opposed to gays having loving relationships. Romance is a private matter, so it is not my business, so I actually do favor them being liberated. I also favor civil unions for gays. However marriage is a public matter and a privilege that concerns the ideal form of family and how children are to be raised and not just about love. CHildren need and are entitled to mothers and fathers.

2+ men or 2+ women cannot produce children or provide for both a mother and a father for children. Those are two powerful differences. Children are entitled to and need a mother and a father which 2+fathers or 2+mothers won't provide for. If we put same-sex marriage en par with opposite sex marriage, we are encouraging children to be deprived of mother and father figures as inevitably that won't be provided for.

I am not suppressing anyone. There is no right to get married. it is a privilege that two people agree to and society permits as it deems in its own interest. The ancient Greeks and Chinese tolerated homosexuality and celebrated it in art and literature, but they didn't allow for same-sex marriage. Why? There is no right to marry a person. That other person must agree to it, legal requirements must be met and then society has to declare it as okay. I cannot marry whoever I want to either and if I ask a woman and she says, "No", she has that right. I'm not suppressing anyone and favor civil unions like what Elton John has and advocates. Civil unions in CA = full marital status - the actual official title of being married. And gay groups still whine like overgrown babies. Some even compare their loss to what Blacks endured in the 50's, 60's. Are their homes and businesses being bombed w/authorities ignoring it? Actually gay couples do have the same rights as staights. There is no right to marry. I have to agree to it with a woman and she must agree. We have to meet certain legal requirements and then society in its interest decides that we are allowed to per its self-interest and makes it official via a license. Elton John stated that gay couples should just stick with civil unions and marriage is for straights. Well, marriage is about the ideal form of the family and that includes RAISING CHILDREN. Gay couples cannot produce children or provide the moms and dads that kids need, so they are not suitable for forming the ideal form of family. They can form families, but such families won't be suitable for raising kids unless another adult of the opposite sex is somehow brought in.

And yes, some Blacks are gay, but we wouldn't know unless we were informed. Black endured terrible treatment and repression in prior eras due to the color of their skin, not their sexuality and weren't accorded their civil rights due to it. In 2008, gays have the same rights a straights otherwise gay groups wouldn't be complaining about stuff that isn't rights(military service, blood donation, Boy Scouts, and marriage) and are one of the wealthiest minorities.

Actually the answer is YES. Civil unions provide the same rights(or more precise privileges) to gays except the official title. Gays aren't being tortured. Elton John and many 1000s of other gays are quite happy with their domestic partnerships and civil unions. They don't need the title of marriage and 1/7 of gays opposes it being granted anyway.

Actually they don't. "civil unions" are defined differently in every state, they do not always afford equal rights. Also, this goes back to the separate but equal argument, which was deemed unconstitutional during the civil rights movement.
