  • Their heads look really big in this video. Yep.

  • ooooo i got miiiiiiine babe!

  • @highschoolmusical841

Have you listened to Dick Dale? He was the king of instrumental surf music, during the early 60s.

Check him out on YouTube, if you haven't already.

My sister used to see him, before he got really noticed, here in L.A. and Orange County, California.

    Yes. Great stuff.

There were alot of Anglophiles, here in the U.S., trying to emulate the mods, rockers, and so on. One good example was Chocolate Watchband, from the San Jose area. Check them out too. Very Stones-like.

  • spectacular boobies!

  • I wish I was alive....This band is awesome!!!!!

  • Don't know how this song wasn't a hit,just too ahead of it's time i suppose.....

  • got the movie..great track..this shouldve been huge...not even top 50...were the guys still listening to the light programme...

  • @highschoolmusical841 Generally true about money, although that never was much of a factor for them during the Small Faces career (as we know, what they made was stolen from them and only Kenney Jones eventually became a wealthy man on the strength of other projects. Ronnie died in poverty and Steve wasn't much better off. Mac says he still has to work for a living). I think it was like any angry divorce between two people who had once been very close. It's painful.

  • @highschoolmusical841 The stuff about Marriott not wanting to share royalties with Lane came about after the break up of the band, not before. The main fight was over the house/recording studio they shared. Steve didn't think Ronnie deserved any proceeds from it because he - Steve - had done most of the writing. Ronnie did apparently forgive Steve enough to attempt two reunions with him later, but it was a very bitter break up. And according to Marriott's bio, Ronnie had really adored Steve.

  • i want him to look at me that way!!

  • cute chick at the end in the background

  • Very Groovy baby !! love it ! long live the 60s' .. peace x

  • @highschoolmusical841 Yeah, I think I heard of Music Machine off a Nuggets compilation. I'll check out your recommendation. Thanks. Best regards.

  • It's difficult to really say, I suppose your daughter is going to be influenced by people of her time, y'know what I mean? As it stands right now, alot of current artists don't really play actual instruments, the music industry has dumbed the roles down and is concentrating on mainstreaming everything churning out copy after copy of the same dreck. Have you introduced to her musical instruments. Myself, I was definitely receptive had I a role model when I was a boy.

  • @highschoolmusical841 The Who weren't really mods, it seems. But, gaahh, that Jesus Christ-oh, god-I couldn't recognize the music of rock n roll anymore, I KNOW that aging plays a role in it, or it's called 'maturing' however 'maturing' is interpreted or defined , that rock opera shit never caught me getting into it. I was a kid during the 70s but I didn't quite get caught in the hounding of this group or that but I did have an active interest in music it's just I had no predessesors.

  • @highschoolmusical841 Radio airplay in the bay area, San Francisco then (mid1970s) and now? THEY ALL SUCKS. The same commercialized shit over and over again and never the obscure song or band of the 60s. Gaaaahh!! Digital is the way to go. I'm not enthralled by punk rock either. Yes, yes, those bands you mentioned I'm just newly discovering. Jeez, it's not only them have you heard of The Cake? Honey Ltd.? The PleasureSeekers? as an example, not to derail the topic at hand.

  • @highschoolmusical841 Yes, I never got into The Who beyond their first early songs and the 'rock opera' and 70s stuff wasn't enrapturing me, for that matter, I was never a fan of Queen, David Bowie, Meatloaf, and soft rock etc. I don't think The Small Faces truly embraced the hippie way. Did you know that 'flower power' and 'flower' children' ideas and terms originated in Los Angeles? Specificaly from Sky Saxon. It did not originate from San Francisco .

  • @highschoolmusical841 Okay, I'm not accusing you of fabricating at all , I too, would very much like to learn that information myself. Yes, in regards to Mr. Don Arden. Ian Maglagan, is too kind and forgiving of him, but he is a vile and despicable species a soul can be. Never can be forgiven for his selfish acts. Please, I may get backlash from this, but don't ask me what I would do were I to ever be nearby his final place of rest....

  • @highschoolmusical841 Where'd you get that information about Marriot allegedly saying to Lane he didn't want to share the money. I still lay all the blame on that bastard Don Arden. The Small Faces regardless of new discoveries I seem to constantly make are number one. I'm not a Mod. That is the past. I'm not even sure they called themselves as such but they are THEE template and they did it naturally.

  • @highschoolmusical841 Yeah, even in the 80s, never heard of him, always those other bands. That's mass media (another thorn). I will get around purchasing The Small Faces cds AND Humble Pie AND Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance, as well. Steve should not have aBANDoned The Small Faces because of a hang up over a mistaken idea over 'Itchykoo Park' or was it 'Lazy Sunday Afternoon'.

  • @highschoolmusical841 I never heard of The Small Faces until NOW. The entire 1970s era was BLANK as far as information goes. I still remember teenagers going ape shit over GREASE but as an adolescent with some scraps of information I didn't think that movie was authentically 50s more like the late70s idea of the 50s ha ha ha *I didn't know it was a play. I've been searching and being amazed at the motherlode of missing information all of these years seemingly available now.

  • @highschoolmusical841 Nothing trivial about pulling someones bird in the 60s, isn't that what got poor Bobby Fuller done in horribly it's said by the fucking Italian mob (no, I'm not a bigot, it's just a face the mob or mafia were putting their shit in the music biz, as well. Perhaps, cold blooded people, as Arden (who was a performer in his young days) regarded the music as transient and tried to get those boys FOR EVERYTHING HE COULD GET OUT OF THEM.

  • @highschoolmusical841 No, it doesn't. Pete Best was sacked coz Ringo is better. Jimmy got himself in trouble by pulling some antic that, maybe Don Arden, if not the group, considered detrimental to the band's standing. I wonder what he did that cost him his position. Someone got hot by it.

  • small faces, BIG TUNES! stonker!

  • What a fucking drag it was talking to a Borders employee at Union Square today from whom I tried to get info. about this movie. I had forgotten the first part of the name and told him that it starred The Small Faces and Kiki Dee. He insisted and told me that there is no such person as Kiki Dee and that she would have been a CHILD in the 1960s. His station wasn't busy but it's clear he wanted this to end. I did a search typing in Small Faces movie and the info. popped up.

  • 1:34 volvo amazon.Thak you 4 a great video/Carl

  • Talent does show early... What a truly fabulous band!!!

  • Little Stevie is so cute and what a voice i miss him dearly.xx

  • Back fron their American tour? When did that happen? When i was in a black out? He must have had that enormous voice since birth; can you imagine a baby with that wailing? He blew us all away!

  • Noice vocal from Steve showing a little of his blues vocal....never been bettered! R.I,.P Steve and Ronnie.WATM

  • Is the girl in this movie serious? She has STEVE MARRIOTT on the STAGE in front of her, but yet, she is oggling the announcer???? I guess that is why I wasn't in this movie. I'd be like, screw my lines, just give me the LEAD SINGER!!! :)

  • @wouldntyoulike2know you're hungry you are...maybe she couldn't give a xxx and yeah she just read the script !!

  • @MsGORGONS what does 'your hungry you are' mean? Also, I don't think its anything to get excited about...I was only joking.

  • Steve was adorable!!!!!!!!!

  • ha! 1:11 makes me laugh out loud, the look on steves face.

  • @firefairy007 Yes, although he was nice about nearly getting his jaw smashed in and gave Jimmy a smile. Ever the performer. Ronnie seems to have spotted the hazard first.

  • @MsGorgons.. .MY TROOPS DIDN'T DO THAT TO ME... !!! but I know a few that will do it to YOU ! ....... What about Hitler oh... nothing to say about that huh ... well I guess you come from a long line of TERRORISTS (YOU) !! you ugly piece of shit ! GOD BLESS THE TROOPS U.S.A.

  • @digitalwatcher your troops? are you talking abt the legless soldiers who hop back to Minessota or the dessembowalled bodies who are wrapped up in black bags...bin liners...you make me laugh small dick...your troops would shoot you in the head if they had a chance...doing it for the money...killing people as a 24hr job. Americanians are the second dumbest people on this earth...read about Panama, Mexico, bay of pigs (YOU) Iraq I & II and Viet Nam where 93 000 yanks didn;t make it home.

I forgot Michael Jakson's dad and Lisa Maria Preseley and Ronlad reagans' dog. and Ronald mc Donal too

  • this has become a big favourite video of mine

  • Ronnie Lane always looked so happy on stage! Cheeky plonk!

  • @babyshambler he weren't happy when his mule had nothing to eat and he had to push his caravan (circa 73)

  • Watch out for the bit at 1:10 when Winston nearly hits Marriott in the face with his guitar. Marriott was 18, Lane was 19 and Jones was 17 when this was filmed.

  • @clareyh1973 Yes. Just babies they were. But so talented.

  • Great to see one of the very best Bands in the world, just wish Steve and Ronnie were still with us.

  • Great to see one of the very best Bands in the world, just wish Steve and Ronnie were still with us.

  • Poireauman68 thats right your a wanna be ....you never seen ANY of these bands .... come to the greatest country in the world and run your mouth! God Bless our troops!

  • @digitalwatcher if it's Englandu yer talking about NO THANKS I don't need to ever go down the gutter again. In truth, things were swung in 63 but by '93 ALBION was lost...to the americans who have been using your...troupies as CANNON FODDER. Thanks all the same

  • @digitalwatcher god blesses nothing much for a god there isn't. You invented gods and you make it do evil things to mentally challenged people who believe heaven and hell. Amerigo seized to be interesting when Joe Ely stopped shooting up and Bo Diddley bought a caravan went camping. Your troops get slained in Helmand. My troop just lost one silly bugger again. Weeping mums and body bags. wake up.

  • When I commented " hey look its the beatles " some ...idiot ...on here wrote " wrong part england " lol I seen Steve marriot in Humble Pie as a kid growing up

  • some idiot...MARRIOOT in humble pie just a semblant of what he was in SF...sad you lived in the wrong part of the world (you still do as a matter of fact) Muppet...

  • when I said " hey look its the beatles ! " I was being sarcastic about the image in this clip, lol some idiot commented on wrong part of england . I seen Steve Marriot in , Humble Pie concert years ago many.

  • Steve Marriott, together with Paul Rodgers, the greatest white rock vocalist of all time. What a loss. This track is great and a real rarity, with Jimmy Winston on guitar.

  • hey look its the beatles!!!!!!!!!!!

  • er...wrong part of England I'm afraid...

  • I remember seeing this song yonks ago without the dubbed over fake screaming ruining the song. It also did not have the shots of the audience or the cars and trucks (lorries) after the band took the stage. Does anyone have that version?

  • i do on my page hun....♥

  • Cheers luv.

The audio is exactly what I'm after but the actual video is seemingly pretty rare. I have only ever seen it during a doco on 60's Brit music. If I ever find it, I will drop you a line.

  • archives held in various BRIT tellies...some sell their footage...also stock shots up for sale in Soho's post production hses. This has got to come from somewhere and I wld suspect possibly more than one live track was filmed...did they bunk off school to play in this film they look so young

  • which filum is it from again?? I love this scene...I bet the flis\cks totally naff

  • Who's the cute blond girl, with the torpedo bra?

every American lad's dream back in '67.

  • That's Christian Bale on the Rickenbacker!

  • aint cool enough to be a Mod

  • that look up he gives actually makes my heart skip a beat.................stunning man, stunning voice and 1 hell of a stunning tune......♥

  • THE Lester Benson? That bloody bloke stole my winklepickers. Give 'em back Lester!!!!!

  • Cheers for posting :-)

  • What a great clip! Thanks for posting!

  • At 1:09, which would likely have suffered more damage in the event of a collision - Steve's cheek bone or Jimmy's guitar? Don't be messing with those cheekbones, fake guitar player!

  • Between the lines she'll kno im cryin................good god he was beautiful......♥

  • Didn't PC Plod use to be William Tell in the TV series (?)

  • Typical, best looking bird in the room and her dads plod..........bollo....!

  • Wish the roads were like that now !

  • steve marriot cool in this as he does in later vids a proper mod

  • whose the guitarist on the far left? that's not Ian is is?

  • that's jimmy winston who was replaced by ian mclagan shortly after this was recorded.

  • thanks, wasn't aware of that. jimmy almost hit steve in the head with his guitar. Not a way to impress the great Steve Marriott on the stage..heh heh heh..

  • Wow, Baby Pictures! Do I see Jimmy & Steph in the background?

  • That "fabulous American tour" sadly didn't happen in the real world. Things probably would have turned out very differently for the SF's if it had.

  • True. No American tour. And you have to wonder if there had been one, whether the history of pop music would have been drastically altered.

  • @MrsSuratt i agree mrs ...they say the same about Cleopatra's long nose. If ifs if...maybe it wasn't meant to be...I'd love to see this cheesy film in its entirety...

  • Thanks for the clip.I remember them from this time...they were tremendous to the end....the riff,by the way,RockerBobK9,and this is solely my opinion you understand, works good enough on this....Thanks again for the clip.

  • This riff, from this excellently worked non-descript song, is the opening riff from Ogden's Nutgone Flake. Is there anyone else out there who hears the same thing? PS -- better use of it three years later!

  • I think this was the first professionally released song credited to Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane and so they were dead fond of it and wanted to re-use it for Ogden's. It does seem more suited to that album than their early r and b stuff I think.

  • Simplicity and brilliance defined. Some of the best vocals of the era.

What punkrockxzz wrote is dead on.

  • the people in the "Top 40" need to start taking some fucking notes from these guys, and most of this lovely decade for that matter.

  • @punkrockxzz started off straight and "to the point" finished with various druggie excesses, murder and tear...1963 possibly more enjoyable than 69...well...er...didn't mean it in that way...ahha by 1969 all prog and boring Stones started stadium rock...needed 1976 so music was great again

  • @PoireauMan68

i agree. Punk gave music a much needed kick in the arse. however over time that got a bit dull aswell. All these different types of music are greatest at the beginning i think

  • 1:11 that Rick is a little close son!

  • fucking ace!!!

  • Love this track!!!!

  • they were just Teens, back in those days there were incredible bands that were just teenagers, you really dont see that anymore.

  • @kroftkarl Hannah Montana...

  • @MsGORGONS I think kroftkarl was referring to real music and musicians, not manufactured corporate bullshit like Hannah and the Jonas Brothers. I believe it is the duty of all parents reading this to ensure that their kids grow listening to quality bands like the Small Faces so they can reject the crap that gets shoved down their throats by the likes of Disney and Fox.

  • Fab,Fab,Fab

  • Good clip. Nice to see Jimmy Winston.

  • ha, bullet bras

now there's nothing left to the imagaination

  • for some reason bullet bras reminds me of Pyrex dishware and vintage sugar & flour canisters. something must of happened when i was kid.

  • what year was this and about how old was kenney jones?

  • who's the guy with the rickenbacker to Steve's right?

  • Comment removed

  • Jimmy Winston the original keyboard player before Ian McLagen. I guess the film makers told him to play guitar instead for the clip!

  • wowee! Steve was a cutie.

  • two guitars?

  • Interesting to note the show host's lead-in to this song, in which he says that SF is just back from their American tour. Sounds reasonable enough, except the band never once toured the U.S. There were tentative plans to do so shortly before their late '68 breakup, but Steve was said to be worried that his (perceived lack of) guitar playing chops would not cut it with U.S. audiences. With a voice and stage presence like his, who would have even noticed that he's not Jeff Beck?

  • This is a clip from a movie called Dateline

Diamonds, in which a coworker of mine

appeared as an extra. He's one of the

    dancers in this very scene.

  • @Stephanjnj jeff beck has too many fingers anyway...MARRIOOT guitar god...he inferiority complex...very very strange,,\ he thought himself lacking in dexterity I can't believe such talented wee man cld think that abt himself !

  • Great song with a sort of psychedelic sound.

  • girls shut it and listen...

  • MOD.

  • What American tour? They never went with Jimmy Winston.

  • As for them looking like the Beatles. All the groups looked the same back then. Even Crosby, Stills and Nash in the beginning. But that all changed. Even the Beatles.

  • Crosby, Stills and Nash were formed in the late 60s. Crosby was from The Byrds, Nash from the Hollies and Stills from Buffalo Springfield.

  • mod band (y) (:

  • delicious centre part, back-comb, and

    front-window curtains

  • don ardon was a wanker who ripped off the faces big time no wonder his own daughter wouldn even talk to him for years , faces are legends

  • yall can kiss my ass. ill just dig this song and vid. ,yours truly midamerican

  • This song is really cool. Ive been trying to get into these guys and this one just topped it off. Im gonna get their live at bbc at borders

  • whoah, im sorry i started an argument about countries and 'hitting it big' what i meant in my original post was the fact they didnt reach a large audience in the states and it saddens me that they arent as well known over here because of that. lol sorry for the poor choice of words

  • the small faces are the best band ever, I was luckily introduced to them age 7ish..and 29 yrs on...I always go back to these, nobody betters them.., also looks dont matter, but they looked the coolest also.., steve is speeding his nuts off in this,,, jaw ache :)

  • I'm no lover of America, and am as British as Winston Churchill, ( oh no! Sorry, he was half American )but let's remember where rock and modern pop originated...America.

And I do have to agree with the other chap, who the bloody hell are The Klaxons?

  • whats with all the aggro between the yanks and limeys. the yanks invented rythm and blues but the brits came along in the 60s repackaged the sound and made it their own. better ,sharper working class music with meaning for the youth.mod culture was born(us brits knows what i mean)in 30 years time will anyone know who eminem are,DONT THINK SO , but ask any kid ,who are the beatles, THE WHO(greatest rock band ever) rolling stones, they will always be remembered.....

  • these yanks r fuked up, they have a identity crisis they avnt got a scooby about music fuk they luv rap music and dont want a black president

  • Huh? Believe me,not all us YANKS luv rap music. In fact,I despise it as much as the first day of work after a 2 week vacation.

  • Dude - I'm a Yank who loathes rap music and will most likely vote for the black candidate. Please don't lump me (and others like me) in with the (sadly, many) embarrasing assclowns in my country.

  • Great performance and song and all, never heard of this one before but love it.

Was a proper song or just for the film?

    And what was the film?

  • thanks for this

wow jimmy winston's rickenbacker gets very close to marriott's head at around 1.10!

  • It also maybe due to you being only 17 and a dumb piece of yank rancid shit?

  • thats because you are an ignorant cunt!!!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA this is the dumbest thing i have ever seen on youtube!!!!!!!!! You fucking wanker!!!!

  • who the hell is jimmy winston why was ian not there??

  • jimmy winston was an original member ,but his ego and steves clashed, ian was playing for boz and the boz people ..answerd the ad got the job ,the rest is history

  • I thought Winston played keyboards in original line up but here he's on a guitar. Do you know if he played guitar aswell or was it just for this film?

  • He played guitar as well, I think the rest of the band thought mmm ok, from what I have read.

  • rockman124 - I remember Mac saying in his autobiography that his Dad called him in to the front room while The Small Faces were on the telly and said these boys look just like you.

Then a few days after Don Ardon gave him a call and told him to come to his offices about a job offer. So Ian walked into Ardon's office to see the other lads and they all cracked up.

  • There original keyboard palyer.

  • Somewhere I've got the entire video of the band w/out the movie interruption, not as sharp as this, tho. Somewhere in that pile of VHS tapes, somewhere....

  • Anyone have a quality upload of this song without the movie?

  • Steve and the Winklepickers just checked into the Marriott Hotel. Go dudes, you blokes look spot-on.

  • top chat up line, ill have 2 use it sumtime,ha ha ha.

  • Ronnie was 'plonk' because of his massive member. Fact.

  • I sayd it onece and i say it agian that guy at the start was annyoing

  • so are you!!

  • cool

  • a brt pop classic

  • this was in the old film dateline diamonds little bits of footage of the small faces but crap film

  • also, can anyone explain the blokes coming in mid song, and the silly bird, wot was all that about? it ruins the song,..anyone have the clip without the poxy men walking in mid song, fucking ruined it 4 me

  • Sure. The two detectives ask for 'Lester Benson.' LB is the manager of Small Faces (in the movie), and also involved in a pirate radio station, and smuggling diamonds (he was blackmailed to do the diamond thing). The girl is the daughter of one of those detectives, plus she listens to the pirate radio station. Oh ya, LB and the mayor smuggle the diamonds using a pirate radio ship. Small Faces don't get to say much in the movie.

  • anyone help? why was ronnie called plonk?

i love this footage..,what happended to jimmy?

  • Because Ronnie's bass style went, 'plonk' as in plunk.......

  • hehe!odgens nut gone flake rolled in this song.

  • Jimmy Winston founded the band but was sacked, coz he was too tall! And was replaced with Mac, who was chosen coz he looked like Lane.

  • Yeah, he was sacked partly for not looking the part and not fitting in in general (he was older than the others, wasn't he?)...but also 'cos he was supposed to play keyboards but kept appearing from behind his organ with a rickenbacker, doing Townsend-style windmilling...so I read/heard in an interview with, I think, Steve Marriott...although it may have been one of the others...possibly Kenney Jones...I forget now!!!

  • Who's the guy playing rhythem guitar?

    I don't remember him.

  • Allways blows me away. Years ahead of their time.

  • Great song, Great Cheekbones!

  • Why the girl acting like such a ditz

  • Plonk... that glorious, glorious face makes my day.

  • poor old steve marriot snuffingit in a bloody house fire. Life sucks sometimes

  • i think the lads were badly ripped of by john landis in the blues brothers , come on children !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hail Jimmy Winstone! A true Renaissance Man who pursued his own path...

  • fantastic.....

  • Is that Jimmy Winston(e) on GUITAR???

    so, who's playing the hammond??

    LOL!!

    Tre

    Liverpool Mods.

  • Ronnie Lane is just a little bit like Noel Gallagher..doncha think?...

My favourite group of all time...easy!

  • ya theres a hint of noel there.

  • No way. Small Faces were for another league.
