  • I love so much this guy. My best inspiration.

  • I found it hilarious that you didn't know you were talking to arguably one of the best metal guitar players around. Fantastic that you know your stuff about guitars, but yeah, such a different world when it comes to metal :) He's one of the nicest guys in the industry too, just like Gene Hoglan (arguably one of the best metal drummers too)

  • @whipcrackeraus Honestly I had no idea how big Jeff was because he was having so much fun while he was playing plus he was fantastic! Finding Jeff and having him be so sweet enough to be interviewed was the highlight of NAMM for me. Such a great player and sweet as well as humble.

  • @MFMOMX You'll find a lot of metal musicians are really nice people. I'd suggest to check him out on Roadrunner United 25th Anniversary Concert with Jeff in it :) The amount of praise that he gets from fellow musicians in the same field just goes to show how great he is. I really do envy you lol :P

  • @whipcrackeraus Thanks Whip. I met Slash a while back and he was another real sweetheart. I yelled at him because I couldn't beat him in Hard on Guitar Hero. LOL! You should've seen the look on his face! Then he asks me;"You play in Hard?" HA!! I never really got into metal at all until the game and now I play guitar & bass and having a blast!

  • Jeff says "Bla bla bla" squeeze in some random riffs and goes "bla bla bla" Hahahaha Great guy!

  • Great guy!!!

  • Great player! The interview is so eager to ask as much as possible, I love it. And Jeff is lying about his 'school': his sound is quite crisp and accurate.

  • remember something you forgot!

your ,your own style,as you said in the start :)

  • what's the song at 4:50?

  • @soad11dude Chemical Warfare

  • shiiit hes an awesome guy xD

  • I have been meaning to add this video to my favorites for a long time

  • If you wanna rhytm picking---try jon schaffer or rolf kasparek from iced earth and running wild !

  • I just love this guy

  • Jeff makes me smile with his smile... AND HIS AWESOME SHRED!!!

  • Jeff Waters is definitely a god of Metal in my book! Just look at the talent that he's influenced. And if you really want to get down to it, Dave Mustaine asked him to join Megadeth in 1989 (Rust In Peace period anyone!!?) and 2004. So other than his amazing playing and composing skills, that should show you something right there!

  • Fuck, he's so nice and kind Oo

  • @meffcio thats cause hes canadian

  • Such a likeable fellow! Jeff is really one of a kind. There are zero dislikes in this video for a reason.

  • Thank you all for all the great comments!! I hope Jeff is back in Anaheim next week for the NAMM Show where I filmed this. I'll let him know that 20,000 fans loved the mini clinic! You all are terrific!!!!! Happy New Year!

  • @MFMOMX I hope so too. He got back from his tour so maybe he will be? His advice is really helpful and he's an inspiration to learn to play. Happy newyear : )

  • I just wish all musicians were great guys like him...

  • I love his Canadian accent!

Also, really likeable guy. Seems to have that true rock'n'roll vibe, not to mention he has fingers of gold that can cause a guitar to spontaneously combust from sheer ubershred!

  • hes looks like a normal guy who can go out and drink some beers :D

  • thumbs up for ZERO dislikes!

  • Great Guitarist and nice guy !

  • Of course he's approachable and sweet, he's Canadian!

  • Jeff Waters' Canadian awesomeness gives him super powers.

  • Really great that you put up this.

Annihilator is sort of a "hidden" gem i think.

  • Creeping Death!:D

  • I like this guy's honesty!

  • Any other song besides creeping death to practice down picking?

I do good leads but very poor rythyms

  • @TheErnestoVidales Pretty much any of the early Metallica as Jeff said. Early Anthrax is good too. Anthrax Caught In A Most is a good one. Halford - Resurrection is really good too!

  • @TheErnestoVidales any song from metallica's first 4 albums. same goes for megadeth, but dave's rhythms are a lot more technical, but that just means more practice to get better.

  • It felt so bad for Jeff when he got you wrong and thought you wanted him to say something to your kids and then it turned out you didn't know him xD However, great, great vid though. Very interesting and it shows just how much of a great guy Jeff is. I could never talk to him like that, I think. Thanks for sharing!

  • Yeah! LOL, it was for my guitar students. LOL!

  • I was so thankful he gave me his time! I thought asking him lower leveled questions so our students could benefit from a pro be would encouraging .

  • jeff is the best,,,,,

  • Canadian beast, I am proud of that

  • I fell in love again..

  • awesome guy !

  • Clearly the Metal scene wouldn't be that good without him.

  • Awesome. Great way to get to know him, too.

  • What a nice guy and superb musician!

  • A coolest guy on metal scene.

  • Jeff Waters is the MAN! A really big influence to me now, along with Kirk Hammett, Ol Drake, Kerry King and Noel Gallagher

  • i saw jeff yesterday in spain sonisphere. Great guitar player!! i love annihilator!

  • i think Metallica should support Annihilator ;-)

  • @JaskoOjciec Why should they? I think Annihilator stands alone in what they do.

  • @MFMOMX i mean Annihilator is so much better than Metallica. Metallica is so comercial band and i dont like it. and Jeff is much better guitarman than Kirk. Sorry for my weak english ;/

  • Oh and yeah his sense of humor does show too. Cool guy.

  • Wow he's 43! Jeff doesn't look past his early 30's or even his late 20's.Well at least I think so. Metal IS the secret fountain of youth! Annihilator until the dawn of time.

  • gotta love jeff! had the honor to speak with him on a clinic last year. that beard makes him look like a bum :D

  • Annihilator is my favourite band and Jeff is my favourite guitarist. Have been since, oh, 1990? The guy is beyond incredible. And, yes, he is a super nice person, too. Have had phone conversations with him and he is very genuine. Amazing talent. Great video!

  • Awesome!! ~ Jeff is a huge influence to me and has been for 10 years now, such a nice guy & it was awesome to see this video!! Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for posting this video! :)

Jeff is definitely my biggest idol and influence on guitar. I've learned so many things about the guitar just from learning his songs. In fact, in 6 years I've played guitar, his style has taught me more than any other player's style for sure.

Glad you got to meet him and that he took the time to answer your questions. I hope to meet him someday myself. :)

  • He totally caught me by surprise while I was walking the show floor and heard him play. I am so happy I got to talk with him and he is the kind of musician that has the ability to endear himself by HIS love of the instrument and the enjoyment he gets from playing. Thank you for your nice comments. If Jeff is your inspiration, I'm sure you'll be as great a guitarist! Don't lose the FUN of playing and keep up the good work Speed!

  • @MFMOMX Does Annhilator still exist? If not, does Jeff play in another band?

  • awesome!

  • Really cool. Good questions! He's a cool guy. I've been a fan of his for about 20 years.
