I remember seeing a Selänne documentary during his rookie season in Winnipeg. The documentary was mostly about his success and popularity with the fans and the Jets staff but also about the Finland day held at the old Winnipeg arena. If anyone has this documentary please upload it here - or if you have any information about it I would be more than happy to receive it. Thanks.
He is a right player with amazing speed. He is also a right player who is right handed. This means that his right hand gives more speed and force and accuracity compareded to anyone else. Never leave this guy on the corner of the left hand side. Why didn't anyone understood this? Simple anwer is that he scores anyway.. But the worst place to leave Selanne free is the left post.
@sloppiejaloppie "Selanne said officials from the Winnipeg Jets contacted him to judge his level of interest in returning to the team he started his career with, but Selanne said he's too rooted in Southern California.
His long-time residence in southern Orange County is tucked away in a gated community near a golf course where he can escape to the links or relax with his family.
His three sons are familiar faces at Ducks practices, and Selanne cited their influence."
The crowd reaction at 2:36 is freaking insane. Has to be at least 115 db. Amazing considering the arena capacity was only a little more than 15,000. All the more proof that Bettman is a complete fucking tool. What hockey fan cannot bring herself/himself to cheer for a moment this? I am a Lightning fan first and foremost (and always will be) but if the Jets ever come back I'll make them my second team for sure. Always wanted another to cheer for.
Damn I miss the early 90s broadcasters. Robson was the best, followed by Hughson, then Wittman, Armitage wasn't bad...and then you had Cole, who was the bottom of the barrel. I've grown to appreciate the old goat over the years, but he's still hard to listen to.
he is just one of the best player in NHL. he dont just do goals he make the opining fo it to not just makes goals. :) like gretzcky he playd with jari curri he gave gretzcky all the good passes to make all the goals.
Gretzky played one year in the WHA with Indianapolis Racers (8 games) and 70 games with Edmonton Oilers. Because the WHA was a pro league, NHL did not award Gretzky the calder.
Teemu was over hypred....real NHL rookies are 18-19 yr olds.....like Gretzky and Lemiuex.....Teemu was 22 and had alot of experience.....so all you ppl should stop kissing his ass.....and besides..where did the jets go?..how did he change that franchise??....he only won on Anahiem as a bit player
I dont think he was overhyped in his rookie season, not sure about the rest of his career, after he left Wpg I never followed him..I understand and kinda agree with u about the rookie age thing, but the fact is they rarely win the Calder..Avg age winner 21 1/2 years old..since the 1990 rule change Avg age winner is 21,so most players who win the award have been playing at a high level for about 3 years. And Gretzky had a year of pro hockey under his belt before the NHL,Guess thats why he never won..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
im juss saying he didnt do much for Winnipeg.....yeah he scored 76 goals ONCE...but after that he didnt do much...and neither did the Winnipeg Jets...he never led them to any post season success....he was a great player, dont get me wrong but he was no different than ..say..a pierre turgeon..
@45skyfire Pierre Turgeon? Are u high?Look at hes stats this season..72 games and 80 points,31 goal and 8th at point summary before 2 last rounds.Teemu is one of the best player ever in the game of Hockey! LoL Pierre Turgeon..Lmao!
@45skyfire Teemu was shocked when Winnipeg sold him. He became the face of the franchise in Anaheim, later to win SC with them. Teemu Selänne is and will be one of the best European players ever to play the game of hockey. How unfortunate it is that he kind of wasted his best years with teams that didn't have a change to play long playoffs... However, Teemu is a class act and legend, 1st ballot Hall of Famer for sure!
@45skyfire Yeah ofcourse they were younger when they came from same country that NHL is played lol when those pussies went to play rookie season at 18yr old selanne was just going to serve in the Army. Those guys havent even been into army!
@45skyfire Teemu had a lot of experience about injuries. He had a bad leg injury and his whole career was in danger. That is why he arrived to Winnipeg a little bit later.
@45skyfire What, then even went to the counter when Teemu nhl? Teemu wanted to develop further in Finland for a few seasons and he wanted to be sure that survive in the NHL! that the requirements lemiuxin lick ass! lemiuxille with honor.
sorry if that is suck english but i cant do better.
i got choked up watching this just now. i was there in standing room only, i was 13 years old. the arena was absolutely electric, passionate and unbelievably loud. anyone think we didnt deserve a team, just listen to this crowd. i was there. its not fucken fair how bullshit markets like atlanta, nashville get teams.the almighty US dollar. they have ZERO passion for the game. 5000 fans at winnpeg games? your a moron. watch ANY Atlanta game and you will see 5000 fans. God i miss our team so much.
I'm sorry for my moronic countryman who obviously knows nothing about hockey in Canada. Winnipeg is the number one city that deserves an NHL team, it's a disgrace the suits want to keep unsuccesful teams in places like Phoenix where no one gives a shit about hockey. Desert and hockey just don't mix.
Thanks for uploading this video - the picture quality is top-notch! I only wish that he was able to score three more goals in Game 6 to force a seventh game, but such is life. All three goals were superb. I really hope common sense prevails and there is NHL hockey back in Winnipeg before too long. They deserve it.
Where did you come up with a number like 5000?I cant believe ppl still try and throw out those type of false number's everywhere, but then again it is the net where false info run's rampant-lol
Winnipeg Arena had a seating capacity of almost 16,000. You better go fact-check attendance figures. And then go research the revitalized downtown Winnipeg municipalities, including their sparkling new all-purpose arena.
@Kaksisekuntiaaikaa it was more like 12,000 in the last season. And if you knew anything on the subject, you would know that the real problems were the Canadian dollar, the fact that we had no more ownership group that could support us, and the fact that we needed a knew so called "NHL-caliber" arena
