We just saw this same seal on 4/12 in Kitty Hawk. He came up on the beach and rolled and scratched. He was very gassy ( I sat down wind from him to keep watch until a wildlife rescue guy came) and kept passing wind; never thought I'd smell a seal fart! He seemed OK, just really tired. There were hundreds of pelicans and gannets feeding off shore; I think he'd had a big meal and was digesting. The rescue guy said that they were monitoring him, he was heading north, gradually. He was amazing.
The most important thing you can do to a seal when you find him here is to let him alone, and keep dogs and children away!!!!!
Call wildlife if you find one that is injured or in need of care at
