I do have to give kudos for a school trying to do this production....but I think schools shouldn't attempt certain musicals if you have to cut out and change the musical itself to make it school appropriate!!! Otherwise, JOB WELL DONE!
Well, out of all the things they had to cut out because of language (though in high school, the students use MUCH worse- I would know, lol), they kept in MY personal favorite part- "Mucho masturbation". :)
ehhh i dont like this one. Mimi is my favorite character and i dont think they pick a very good one to play her part. and i agree Benny is too flamboyent. idk i really like both to movie and the broadway this doesnt do anything for me. sorry guys
Too be honest, they dont have good pronunciation of vowels. It sounded somewhat mediocre. I dont know if this was a joke or not of the actual thing, but it could have been better. But good job on remembering the fast-paced lines. Especially the waiter's lines
Benny is FAAAAR too flamboyent in this production. I mean for god's sake it was Taye Diggs whom originally portrayed this character on Broadway. He is supposed to be cocky not queeny.
I like how he clearly watched some serious anthony rapp before doing it. You can't possibly hope to present that role better, so anyone who ever plays the role of mark should just try and be like him. Decent job, watch the vibrato though, it sounds out of place.
See, I don't like this Mark. I wouldn't have cast him. The director I'm performing with wouldn't have either. I'm performing in the first performance of Rent in Great Britain as one of the Policemen. I don't like the way that this has been subject to censorship. I'm only fifteen, and to be honest, I would have been perfectly fine with the 'iffy' lines in this musical. Cutting them removes the purpose of Rent. Shameful.
The only thing I don't like about the school edition of Rent is how much they cut out. Don't get me wrong, I understand that there's a lot of language in it, and the song "Contact" is a little too out there for high schoolers. But when they cut entire verses out of the songs... well... it just doesn't seem the same. The language and crudity (for lack of a better word) is also a huge part of what makes this show so real and deep.
On the good side: I'm always impressed with the waiter's line.
the musical i just did totally felt like we did rent cuz every break we had we spent singing rent and eating pizza but the pizza isnt wat reminded me of rent...lol
The Mark in this is adorable!

Favourite part is the reversal at 4:33.
Collins: (Ohshitohshitwhatsmyline) ...Langston Hughes...!?
Roger: Lenny Bruce!
And then Collins nods like "THANK YOU" and Roger does the "I got your back, bro" finger gun thing. xD

There's practically no emotion from anybody... It's all so robotic and rehearsed...

This is so weird....I never pictured Benny being played by a white guy, but he does have a pretty awesome voice.

This is definitely one of the best school edition performances on youtube.
I recently saw the broadway tour of RENT, and this is ALMOST as good as that. :)
