I do, however, laud the act of doing something, even if it is simply re-doing another's art. I hope that it will become a jump-off point for you to explore and refine your own pieces. I would suggest moving on to AfterEffects as you have far more control over the motion and 'heft' of the objects you're moving around.
As for the 'original vs. this one' debate: Computers do this sort of stuff on autopilot. The original has more charm because someone drew it.
aa: this is a great remake (well done), but the point of this piece for many of us is that it represents our youth and brings together visual and auditory representations of the past. Remaking it and cleaning up the original grimy animations is like trying to digitize our memories. Watching this seems to spoil that.
I don't understand the point of this comment. The "many of you" who value the piece nostalgically already have the vintage version to watch. This new, clean version isn't replacing the old, grimy one.
Personally, I like seeing the geometry more clearly. Not only is this new piece valuable in itself, it also enhances the experience of watching the older version. As a Keynote user, I'm amazed that it was created in Keynote.
anomalogue, i certainly respect your position on this and yes we do have the old version to watch whenever we are jonesing for some Sesame Street throwback.
However, my position is twofold:
1: it a well made reproduction BUT
2: it doesnt envoke the emotion that the original does.
Aristotle said, in reference to art, "Imitation, then, is one instinct of our nature."
It is within aa's license to imitate the original and bring a 30 year old piece up to date. It is well done.
You are entitled to your opinion, which appears to be that aa1979 is doing a great job of re-creating a piece that you believe does not need to be re-created.
I agree on the first part, that aa1979 is doing a great job, but I want to offer my own dissenting opinion on the value of the project itself. I think it is tremendously worthwhile. The geometric forms are much clearer on this re-creation--you can really see what is going on. I can't wait to see the other installments.
i am not here to tell artist a or artist b or you or my cousin cletus whether or not there is value in their artistic work. art to many people is work that has some sort of sensory attraction or is significant somehow. this work is obviously significant to me, but my opinion is that the original envokes the emotional response.
if it tickles your senses or is significant to you, it must be art, and it obviously has value.
Haha, I find myself wanting to contribute something to this discussion but all that's to be said has seemingly found it's way in here. I agree wholeheartedly with wvshriver's previous comments. At the same time I can appreciate anomalogue's view to why this video is of value. I'm still partial to the original though, perhaps from subconscious bias. On a completely unrelated note, the fact that something so simple such as the original video can evoke such strong feelings is absolutely astounding.
Nice. you might like av marimba echo , a video I made using midi to do music and visuals together. see video responses.

I remember watching these in Sesame Street as a very young child. I think these animations are the reason why I adore modern/conceptual art so much.

This is actually pretty good.

I hope aa1979 continues this project.

That's really good, but it just doesn't match up to the original.

Keynote - like a fancier version of PowerPoint - it's all wipes and actions.

Oh, right. I forgot to read the description. I hope you can re-animate the other 2.
tpirman1982 4 years ago
The other 2 are substantially more complex in an animation sense, I'm working on it though.
aa1979 4 years ago
Well, it just takes practice. Just practice and I'm sure you'll get it.

i know right?
