Hmmm, what exactly is there to admire in so-called 'gangsters'? Tough-talking, hard-as-nails, no-nonsense types?? Isn't this what those Hollywood moguls were trying to convince us all about so as to sell their 'products'.....ie films, tv series ( The Untouchables, etc..)....surely there are better so-called role models to look up to?!!!
@andySML I agree,I have seen all of Cagney's,with Bogart in a supporting role.And Edward G Robinson's.Some George Raft.But I'm not familiar with the rest.
@andySML a few movies I noticed are featured in this montage are "little caesar", "roaring twenties" "angels with dirty faces" "scarface" "public enemy"
Excellent job! Gotta go watch TCM immediately! When Bogie played bad guys he was downright scary. Cagney: always a hothead ready to rumble. Robinson: coldblooded and willing to kill his own grandmother. What a group!
what an excellent video clip love it all the way down to the music!only if hollywood was into makin these kind of flicks come to life again.check out a dvd hollywood vs. the mob it has alot of good footage and classic flicks.
Love it! These gangster movies from Warner were the best! Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, and Raft were great in their roles as were the supporting characters in the films. TCM is one of the few channels left that has not changed and still shows good movies. Thanks for posting.
Cagney is one of my all time faves, but I have to be honest and say Robinson completely owned it when it came to bein' a gangster. that face and voice of his will never be seen or heard again!
Not sure which I like best-- cagney was the perfect gangster hero, tough-talking with a chip on his shoulder-- Robinson had that moxie and way of talking and actually looks like Capone-- but Bogey had that full-blown class, like a gangster should.
That was GOOD. I recognized little caesar and angels with dirty faces, and some names I forget. Some I never saw though! Makes me hopeful there's some I still didn't see! Look forward to seeing those "new" ones. :D
I agree .I like the way you included George E. Stone (WB Contract player) as one of the Gangsters. His last Role was in Television. He played the Courtroom Clerk in the CBS Series "Perry Mason" So George continued to be active in Film until his Death. To my knowledge, his last movie role was in Billy Wilders's "Some Like It Hot" (1959) as Tooth Pick Charlie who got Rubbed out in the beginning of the movie, by George (Spats Columbo_ Raft..
Brilliant job. Particularly like the shot of Boris Karloff. The only modern gangster film that yields the same feeling of impending doom is "Goodfellers".
Excellent job! Almost as good as watching the movies. From which movie is the scene at .23secs with camera going around the table with E.G.Robinson? Thanks.
Edward G. Robinson was for about 10 years THE biggest name in Hollywood. He made not only gangster movies for what the most know him today. he made many biographies and other very good films and played great genius etc which can not many actors well. He filled these parts perfectly ! Then came the time of Bogey etc.. and he was able to go "into the second row" with dignity and played old men, fathers, old professors etc etc. He was successful till his dead what is rare. Thank you f.t. vid. P.
That was wonderful! I got giddy when you included my favorite shot from all of Scarface, besides the long tracking opener, that montage of the days weeks and etc going by at the side of a roaring tommy gun.
SO many of the shots I'm almost certain were reprised by Scorsese in his gangster pictures. So neat!
That's George E. Stone, he was the supporting role in "Little Caesar." He was also in "Taxi" with James Cagney, "Bullets or Ballots" with Bogart and Robinson and he was also in "42nd Street." He's not too well known but I always enjoy his performances.
Absolutely fab! Give me Cagney any day. Or Edward G.Robinson. To be perfectly honest, there wasn't a face anywhere that wasn't a joy to view. Congratulations on a sharply edited video that's worth seeing over and over. Excellent music, too.

Just thought I'd let you know I've been coming back to this video on and off since at least 2010. It's just brilliant.

It's an amazing piece of editing. So rare to find music which sounds so black and white and menacing.
When the timing's off you always notice. This is a perfect example of how to do it.
