  • v besplodnoe derevo kamnem ne brosaut :)

  • que ncreible!!

  • Dear lanarv.

that is an "excellent reply"???!!!! You make me smile. What kind of arguments are these?

  • her hands really gave this dance character. they were attentive and swift.

  • plisetskaya and fonteyn the best etoilessssssssssssssssssssss

  • I think your English is not very good. Please, if you can show that wath I say is false. Thank you.

  • you are a tasteless idiot full of crap..next time before you have the dumb ass idea to post a bull shit comment why dont you use that apparently minute brain!

  • BRAVO ! ...LucyLive08 ...Excellent reply to federicoxxxxx...lol..

  • I want ballet to return to this level of artistry! I loke modern technique but it has become to extreme, and characterisation is just lost. Plisetskaya possses phenomenal technique-although I did laugh at 55secs in because her feet are not turned out at all in those wlaks. I wasn't laughing at her, just at the thought of how dancers couldn't do that today.

  • It's true that sometimes some of her movements look a little odd, but I think you do have to consider that the style of ballet has changed quite a lot since her day. Point being, she's not doing anything she doesn't mean to do. And her arms are stunningly graceful...it blows me away every time. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Are you kidding? She has so much grace. Who do you think Swan Lake was intended for, to dance from the beginning? Yes Maya.

  • love her!

did she change costume for her variation? the pas costume, the bodice is different than what shes wearing for her solo/

  • In general I thought it was quite good but I sometimes think when Maya does an arabesque her front hand is like a crab hand like in the shape of < But I still thought the performance was amazing

  • I just love her speed in her foot work. I have never seen another ballet dancer move that quickly with so much character.

  • Wow. It seems to me like dancers of this age have lost whatever it was that made Plisetskaya so amazing. I've never seen a dance liker hers. Simply phenominal. Everyone who says she doesn't have technique obviously doesn't know what technique is.

  • You couldn't have said it any better. She is the greatest of all ballet dancers.

  • She was also a woman of steel! Picked on by the idiots in the Party because she was Jewish, she still went every day to dance at her beloved Bolshoi! You're not only a great ballerina, Maya, you're a great human being!

  • adballet and others. Maya is a class above anything around today. Maya outperforms everyone else in technique, musicality and interpretation. Perhaps Pavlova was as great, but she bought another entirely different style of dancing to the people. We love them both.

  • N Pavlova was also another great one. The two of them, back in the 20th century were the very best!!

  • Maya was one of the greates ballerinas of the twenty century, every day dancers are exoected to do more, more extensions, more piruettes, back then they needed to be more passioned that tecnically perfect, more impressive and divas like her, Fontein, Alonso, Ulanova. To be like them was amazing.

  • i totally agree! and the thing is maya's technique is amazing as well as her artistry but is her artistry that we really notice.

  • You are right... Still Alonso and Maya also had a fiercely technique. They were amazing!

  • i agree completely with adballet, anyone who works hard enough to reach that level not only with great technique but passion is awesome

  • Dancing is beautiful but the headdress makes me laugh!

  • i dont know why people say that she didnt have technique

its just a this time the dancers get the influence of sports such as gimnastic skating

at Plisetskaya´s time the influence at ballet was acting and dancing

    here she is odile

    a demon /swan

that is performing you got it?

  • Power, emotion, raw unbridled passion. That is dance. Yes, extensions. Yes, clean. But not to the exclusion of passion and intensity. I will take Maya any day! Brava!

  • I agree totally with Sylphida!

  • dance has, of course, evolved but after reading the various comments it is obvious that the degenerates have not!

  • Kinda ungraceful, but dang is she good!

  • odile is one of those roles where when the dancer is graceful i am kind of unsatisfied ... i want odile to be fierce. some dancers just can't stop being supergraceful. i don't know, maybe that's just me.

  • Have to agree with you there......and I hate the "lengthened" look of the starving dancers today.....Maya was doing her thing before everyone got hooked on coke and heroin in order to dance.

  • I'm sorry, but you have just insulted the last 3 generations of dancers in the entire world. My weight has been btw 93 and 105 and I have never even tought of trying cocaine or heroine or any other drug, including cigarettes. I drink half glass of champagne on New Year's. Drugs DO NOT help people to look beautiful and strong and wake up every morning for class and several hours of rehearsals.

  • Plissetskaya was the top of her line at her time, that's as far as training would take you, however things have evolved. Somethings are not acceptable today, and if you ask her I believe she will be the first one to tell you. PLEASE START RESPECTING DANCERS, WE WORK VERY HARD AND DO NOT NEED NOR WELCOME THIS KIND OF BASHING. If you see a video of her in 1973 the walks and the extra weight are almost gone.

  • her weight is almost gone because she's getting old. she's the kind of person who lose weight by getting older.

  • she is really good! But the reason that she's ungraceful is because odile is suppose to be sharp and weird. If she was something else I would bet you that she is super graceful.

  • HAHA i like the headpiece.

  • Wow! Not crazy about the ungraceful and not very balletic walking but her strength and command of performance are undeniable. Different tutu's so I'm guessing different performances. I do prefer the modern soviet dancers - I like how thin and 'lengthened' they look and I'm crazy for those high extensions. But someone had to set the bar way back when! She is pure power,

  • and raw passion and emotion ... with an amazing sense of the music. she's really brilliant.

i know where you're coming from, i love the post-balanchine russian aesthetic also, but although not graceful perfection (like ulanova), plisetskaya owned her roles, they were just so her, and she was so the character she was dancing, that makes her really a special and stand out dancer in my mind. i hope that made sense.
