  • I've considered every version of this hanuntingly artistic song, and Rosanne's is by far the best. I guess Don Gibson's "pop" version is next best, and I also like Mary Ramsey and the Healers. But Rosanne's arrangement, with its incredibly subtle and soulful guitar work is a masterpiece.

  • Sviđa mi se to je još jedna verzija u srceparajučem stilu ali dobro

  • This song reminds me of Clint Eastwoods' 'Heartbreak Ridge' .

  • Beautiful xxxxxxxxx

  • Roseanne should have won the Grammy for this CD. Just like her father she has the gift of interpretation.

  • Is it just me or this melody resembles very much one of the songs by Bob Dylan? "Don't think twice, it's all right", I reckon.

  • pretty good version, but don gibson owns this song

  • Beautiful!

  • Rosanne sang this tonite with John, from her band, and she acknowledged Bruce and she sang it together first. So, of course, I had to look it up. If you get the opportunity, go see her. She shook my hand on the way out. What a wonderful performance from one of my alltime favs! Love you, Rosanne!

  • OMG this is gorgeous...

  • Bruce is great...but Greatest Artist of All Time takes in a little too much ground for any one person. Sorry.

  • i've sailed past this sad turbulent sea, i rest on a peaceful shore, abiding the sweet tide of the everlasting sea in the heart of its mist

  • Oh! My! This is pure soulful beauty. It goes hand -in- hand with Handle Me With Care.

If you were here right now, we would be wearing the same shirt.

  • @dolly19631. i don't think you can complement yourself on the value of your own comment.

  • Bruce is fucking amazing!

  • find ich super das lied einfach toll

  • I love IT !

  • aaaaaah

    wonderful!

  • My favorite color is red...and if it's not your favorite color....well then you should be cleaning bear shit at the North pole....get it...? Of course the Boss is a great....we have had lots of great artists, but it all boils down to appreciation of music and personal taste...variety is the spice of life...and thank goodness we don't all like the same thing....what a boring life that would be..appreciate the different times and styles

  • @chabuka123 OMFG. Why are people so dumb? Comment on shit, when a cloud of genius is right in your face. So much for humanity...

  • MOR version. I'll settle for Don. Voices okay, but mixed down, I wonder why. Phoned in their performances. I'm gonna go see if King Elvis took this great song on.

  • Beautiful song, beautifully sung by both Rosanne and Springsteen. Lovely album, hope there were more songs on Johnny's list.

  • Beautiful song, beautifully sung by Rosanne and the Boss. The whole album "The List" is wonderful. Hope there will be more, I think Johnny's list was fairly long. Bring it on!

  • my Ode to David

  • great song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love every selection of Rosanne's "List"... this song is a favorite of many - live long enough and you'll understand the title. My opinion is that this is Rosanne's best performance of this song - she's done it tv shows, radio and concerts but this version is flawless. Thanks for posting a wonderful piece of American music history. We love and miss your daddy, Rosanne - Semper Fi

  • does rosanne cash have any good songs her dad didn't sing?

  • @kidrock119

Seven Year Ache is an AWESOME song; Rules of Travel is very pretty.

  • @kidrock119 I'd suggest listening to her album "Black Cadillac"

  • I am soo fond of Rosanna Cash, she is a such an amazing singer~!!!, such a beautifull and powefull voice!!!

  • i,m affaid bruce spoils it,cant he hear he's often off tune ?

  • @ccm35071 That's what musicians call harmony.

  • @ccm35071 sadly I have to agree

  • One great song---two great singers.

  • BOTH ME AND THE WIFE LOVE THIS VERSION , THAT UNUSUAL.

  • a haunting song....to be sure.......lost loves...are a sea of heartbreak....rosanne cash underrated artist

  • I miss you LT

  • Great rendition, really hits home!!

  • Great version of this song. I think sounds a little like Lyle Lovett especially in the chorus. Hi Leo! Just shows you how well written this song was originally so as to lend it self able to this wonderful arrangement.

  • Two great voices complement each other perfectly great version

  • Rarely is a cover version better than the original but this one, by Roseanne Cash and Bruce Spreenstein, in my opinion is better than Don Gibson's version and even surpasses Johnny Cash's version. This is one of the best written songs ever - written by Peter Hampton and Hal David. What great symbolism! I wish this song was played on the radio more, but the good ones rarely are. The vocals are outstanding and they have successfully made this classic even better.

  • This is a lovely song. Great duet I agree.

  • I absolutely love this! What a rendition!

  • Lovely voice great book-Composed

  • Very nicely done

  • cash! and the boss

  • does the cd credit Springsteen? It sure don't sound like him

  • @LRooster4Prez it is Springsteen :)

  • Lovely descant by Bruce. A great pairing.

  • LIke her father, she has a haunting voice. He must have been so proud of her. Why don't the radio stations play her more? I love Roseanne Cash!! I always thought she had the most beautiful voice in country or pop, but why didn't she become a superstar? I'll never understand it.

  • Who gave this version a thumbs down? Hope it was a mis-fire.

  • WHEN IS THE LIST #2 COMING OUT? CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER!

  • Excellent rendition...thank you Leventhal, Rosanne and Springsteen!

  • @lrd9999 I enjoy the original as well, and being a fan of 50's and 60's era music I like the background "gimmicks" so prevelant in music of that generation. I guess I like the meloncholy feeling of this version as it feels more heartfelt and sad rather than an upbeat sad song.

Still, great songs covered by many different artists will appeal differently to many people.

Great input though lrd9999, good to have respectful feedback on youtube for a change.

  • molto bella,grazie

  • This version is simply the best. Roseanne's voice and Bruce harmony come together so beautifully. Pure musical chemistry.

  • Wow...Roseanne Cash backed by Bruce Springsteen. BEAUTIFUL song, better thanthe original in my humble opinion.

  • @harri3601 It's kind of an apples to oranges comparison. This is great for anyone who can't deal with the background gimmicks that were expected on a country record in 1961 ( ... bom bom bom ... ). But Don Gibson's singing was stunningly good, I can't imagine anyone improving on it. The great thing about a song like this is that you have so many versions from which to choose. This reminds me a little of Springsteen's very cash-like "I'm on Fire".

  • love this

  • WOW first time hearing this cover and I love it! : )

  • The Boss is the greatest singer and Rosanne ain't no slouch. Great song. Their voices are pretty close to perfect together. Thanks for the post.

  • The CD was based on a list of songs her dad gave her when she was 18.

  • Ahh, so divine. Roseanna's voice couldn't be complimented better than that soulful background voice of .... Springsteen. Not sure it it's just me, but in this particular song, Bruce's voice is hauntingly similar to her dad's. Was it meant to be that way, or just a coincidence? Regardless, the song touches my soul.

  • @Anet99 Not that you're wrong but to me he sounds a little like don gibson or marty robbins.

  • should have won the grammy!

  • This is awesome. Springsteen and Cash just marry each other in voice. Beautiful beyond haunting words!!

  • John must be so proud of his wonderous daughter

  • BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT.

  • lovin it!

  • I'm really looking forward to BarbedHook's version.

Sorry, for those that are slow, that's sarcasm, folks.

  • Beautiful:-)

  • I like both these guys....But once a painting has been done..why bother...Gibson nailed this.....none better.

This version sounds hollow...no life compared to Gibson

  • @thumper549 definitely no comparison to theorginal.

  • Nice Song

  • Very Pretty Song

  • BarbedHook...... Firstly your spelling is horrendous. If you are going to take a cheap shot at Bruce Springsteen at least try and spell his name right ! This is a good version of a great song. And as for Bruce.......go see him live.

  • Well barbed, i guess i'll see just how long it takes for you to get posted on you tube singing. When you say Springsteen is overrated and cant sing, hmmmmm i guess his millions of fans and all over the world probably say to themselves before going to see him in concert" damn, he cant sing but im going to see him again for the 5,6, 7, and more times.

You might not like his style, but to say he cant sing. LOL.

  • being a good recording/performing artist is not just about how good your voice is (which fyi Bruce does actually have). you need to have personality most of all! Bruce can rock a stadium and get people on their feet. Bruce also get's alot of credit for his song writing which he also deserves. do you have any musical qualifications BarbedHook? i'm interested to know.

  • Ale Cudo;))

  • this is really good, it make's me feel really good, both are really good. miss jc like mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow Bruce can sing!!!!! when he wants to!

  • Way to go Rosie ! and Bruce, you still da BOSS ! great rendition

  • Nailed it? Yeah I couldnt have put it better myself

  • She and Bruce Springsteen really nailed this song. I really think this song is outstanding and it is one of my favorites from "The List." I hope she makes a "List 2."

  • gosh there are plenty of songs left

  • im 15 an i love this song!!

  • Irgendiwe höre ich immer I am on fire mit.

  • Her voice sounds very clear and beautiful. The Boss is also amazing. In fact, a wonderful cover of this classic hit by Don Gibson.

  • very nice no johnny but you cant beet the best. I am very happy with this cover

  • Nice

  • simply love this song and the Boss makes it perfect!

  • Magnifica voz!!!...Preciosa versión...

  • the person below knows fuck all about music Bruce is a legend

  • bruce springsteen is the greatest artist of all time, when he goes on stage he goes out to put the best show ever, and thats what he does best, anyone that says he is not a great, should be cleaning bear shit up in the north pole...well said

  • @dolly19631'm laughing at loud at that comment,. sitting here thinking about all that polar bear bait-

I agree with you it would serve those musically-challenged SOB's right . This is such a sweetly sung song.

  • @dolly19631 agreed !

  • the butterfly's turning around in my body. I fell in love again!

  • me luv this song!!

  • I LOVE IT!

  • Mildly entertaining version. When you've heard Don Gibson you've heard the best!

  • I dont think this song deserves to win a Grammy! Especially not in the category:

    Best Pop Collaboration :s

    still a nice song.

  • Nice version its good to hear an alternative one sometimes even when you're hooked on the original.

  • Wonderful!

  • sung*

  • "The List" A list of 100 essential songs given to her from her dad when she was 18

  • THis is an interesting song- I love her voice.I'd love to find a recording of an old hit for her."The Real ME". It's pretty old- lovely song.

  • Love the harmonies. Still, Don Gibson's version is the best.

  • good song but not enough bruce in it:)

  • Just the right amount of Bruce in it, IMHO

  • Best remake of this song by far.

  • personally I enjoy when an artist takes a classic and does it in their own unique style...

  • Lovely!

  • Very catchy! Even though I prefer the original version by Don Gibson, this is quite enjoyable. It's always been one of my favorite romantic ballads. THANKS so much for sharing it with us! May ALL your dreams & wishes come true in the New Year! :)

  • Yes its v good....I am a big Springsteen fan....but it doesnt match up to the original Don Gibson song...sorry!

  • Oh that song feels good.

  • I love this song, never heard the original, but I am sure that Rosanne and the Boss do it great justice. I want the whole Rosanne album "The List."

  • Love this duet

  • I wish Springsteen had written it!

  • this version was nominated for a grammy!

    not bad!

  • Great version, but it's hard when you remember the incredible original by Don Gibson!

  • i remember hearing this as a wean wi steak and kidney sydney emm singing

  • i first heard this on austin,tx radio good jam

  • this is by fare mt favorate. far more touching and tragic yet sooo beautiful

  • Not normally a country fan, but this song is fantastic.

  • spot on

  • The most beautiful version I have heard of this song ever. This is one that I will place in my most favourites song list. I wish I could see it performed live :)

  • wicked version. i think both artists compliment each other perfectly.

  • Heard this for the first time yesterday on NPR.....not a country fan, however, I am a fan of a well laid down tune......Excellent job

  • Just heard this on the country channel from the new music site Youshook. What a beautiful version. Well done.

  • I love this version ! Thank you for the fantastic concert yesterday !! Rosanne has such a beautiful warm voice.

  • I actually think this is better than her dad's version, and I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan.

  • Thank you Rosanne! It's absolutely the best version I've EVER heard of this song. And thank you Bruce for not using your fake country accent. You were probably embarrassed to use it in front of Country royalty.

The album is magnificent, I love it.

  • Nice

  • Heard about this on the radio today... Was par t of the education her dad left behind and all that...

Incredible that Rosanne and Bruce pulled the tune off...

Gibson still did it best.... And that' ok...

  • Absolute

    Thank you!

    Rossanne

  • Il mio idolo Bruce duetta con la voce femminile più bella al mondo la grande Rosanne Cash che cosa posso chiedere di più ? Niente !!! Grazie Bruce e Rosanne da Gabriella
