a decentralized camera becomes a centralized camera when you bypass the internal VMS by setting it up to be used in conjunction with external third party VMS software such as Milestone, Dvtel etc. The camera is then recording to the central PC/Server where the external VMS is installed. See also our video, "What Is Edge Recording?"
@HereKittyKittyxoxo in a surveillance application - a decentralized camera can record direct-to-storage, AND can also be setup to record to a central VMS server. However a centralized camera, cannot record direct to storage without a central VMS server.
Because a decentralized camera has VMS software built-in, it can be both centralized and decentralized.
@Nycnetwork If you think there is high chance of the camera being stolen, remember in-camera (SD) recording is only an option, you can record to any type of external media (e.g. HDD or NAS). However, it would be pretty pointless stealing a MOBOTIX camera because of the in-built security mechanism which prevents thieves from accessing or using the camera - check out our video "MOBOTIX Admin Password Reset Policy" which explains how this works.
Thank you for posting this video! I've been searching around for some time now and I have learned more in 6 minutes and 17 seconds then I have reading all the biased recommendations online. you da' man!
Is there a camera with both? centralized and de-centralized video storage?
