Syrians, i n my opinion, are as far away from 'rat-like' as you can get. Their eyes are in the front of their head, unlike the rat's, which are on the side. Syrians, winter whites, robos and campbell's dwarf hamster also have a short tail, while the chinese dwarf hamster has one slightly longer. But it is much shorter than a rat's tail. Hope I helped!

HAHAHA! No, hamsters have scent glands which mark the tunnels as they pass. This tells the hamster if they've passed this way before, and if so, how long ago...All of my hamsters have been able to negotiate (and sometimes run through) all of this in the dark!
