The simulation is much too "peaceful"...the eruption of Mount Mazama was one of the most powerful in the post-Ice Age period; the local tribes considered the place taboo as the site of a clash between the gods. During the eruption, it must have seemed like the world was coming to an end.
At about 0:20 there is some impression of a "special effect" that you can see there when the weather is clear. Then the mountains are mirrored in the water. If you are watching the opposite coast it's easy to look at it as if the land on the opposite side looks like a huge bridge in the sky. The mountains are also a place where you can just take a few steps away from the public and "hear the silence", That was a pleasant surprise, in my country there is no place where you dont hear cars.
Two places that I enjoyed visiting after moving to southern Oregon between 2005 - 2008, were Crater Lake in Oregon, and the redwoods.
My only "beef" with Crater Lake is the park fees, which I heard were going to increase even higher.

The Redwoods were my favorite. But I'd recommend at least 1 visit to Crater Lake for anyone who hasn't seen it. The drive there is nice too, especially if following the Rogue River.

I always thought the mountain was just "blasted away," not that it collapsed in on itself. Fascinating.
