True Flamenco by the great Master Sabicas. I love the story of him smashing his guitar onstage at Carnegie Hall when one of the male dancers came out stamping away during Sabicas' big solo. Anyone else have more details about that ? Such a legendary meltdown...from such a Maestro!
NO WAY, YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF CAT CLEMONS!? Come redeem your shame by checking out my videos and commenting and subscribing! It'll be awesome. Trust me.
I have heard hundreds, but to me this is the PUREST version of Malaguena I have ever heard. Everything about it....the smokey cafe, the women...everything is so perfect!
SABACUS is great but i still consider PACO PENA the best. however i have yet to find him performing MALAGUENA. STILL LOOKING. OF COURSE MY version needs a lot of practice. but this is the differance between those 2 men who no doubt having been playing for decades and myself a mere year.

And to think I used to consider Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton "God." But Sabicas... ...wow. Ironically, in Spain they don't seem to consider guitar playing a contest at all. It's about the music there. It's not at all unusual in Andalucia for someone walking down the street to be singing out loud. When was the last time you saw someone doing that here in America?
@workingstiff19 Its cause everyone here is focused on superficial things and just believes every single thing on tv. People are afraid to be different and all the damn media just gives us negative points of views (oh someone was stabbed 23 times today). When I was in Portugal, the news was always something positive (besides the horrible car crashes, but really they drive at like 90mph in and out of traffic over there). I don't plan on living in the US when I'm older.
@workingstiff19 Give the americans more credit. They are obviously influenced by the same composers that flamenco guitarist are. And take Chris Broderick, very classically influenced.
Not to mention Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton didn't have the money for classical studies.
@workingstiff19 Jimi Hendrix and Sabicas were two extremely talented guitar players in their own right. Two completely different styles of playing and both completely beautiful and genius. Also, there's nothing wrong with a little competition is there? It's in human nature to compete. It just boils down to opinion and taste when you decide which guitar player is "better". Although sabicas's playing is very difficult to play and learn that's for sure.
You can´t compare a rock guistarist with a flamenco guitarist. Although the flamenco technique is one of the most difficult Sabicas can´t play like Clapton or Hendrix. Its just a matter of music genre. Guitar is one of the most versatile intruments, there are a lots of techniques and guitar types.
Can anyone point me where to find the intro to this song, i have loads of books and stuff with different variations but i cant find this intro and i cant figure it out :L any helppp :)
For those who don't know Paco followed Sabicas. Watch a documentary on Paco de Lucia and listen to what he has to say about his maestro Sabicas. Thanks to him, Paco branched out and formed a style of his own for a new generation, but not until later. Paco also discusses other great's who influenced him. Well worth watching a documentary on Paco. Nothing but respect for all those who came before him. Ground breakers since Paco,...hmmmm? Great players, but... innovators? We'll see... ?
complete mastery. all class. greatest flamenco guitarist to ever live. yet he gets overshadowed by many others (cough paco cough). many have incredible talent and technique but no one will ever come close to the grace sabicas exuded when he touched a guitar.

Paco de Lucia is a truly talented guitarist, and it would be difficult to compare Sabicas and he. Paco de Lucia has the ability to do the same, especially in classics such as Entre dos Aguas, but even he has admitted that his main inspiration came from Sabicas.
@eyesonthecrowd I agree with you, this is truly a beautiful piece of Malaguena. But earning 200 million views would make Sabicas an average guy. As the biggest crowd of people always defines the average, popularity comes to mean you're not special, just an average enough to entertain the average. What stays in the marginal is closer to a negligible or a genius. No doubt onto which side the art of Sabicas settles.

@gabriellastar88 Is called an harmonic ("armonico"). With the right hand: index he slightly just touch the string (with out presing it against the fret board). and he plug the string with the thumb. With the left hand: the fret the same note one octave lower. There are other few intervals to do it. Is a classical technique that some electric guitar players also do.
@gabriellastar88 Eddi Van Halen also do it. But with the righ hand instead of using the index finguerto slightly touch the string (with out presing it against the fret board). and he plug the string with the thumb.
