Although the Founders called for a Natural Born Citizen, and were probably basing it off of a definition found in "The Law of Nations", they never got around to putting that definition into the Constitution. The Constitution is the basis of our legal system. But it still needs to be clear. In the case of "Natural Born Citizen", it is not. Although I believe, as do most legal scholars, that the Founders meant for that term to be the same as the one found in de Vatel's "The Law of Nations", they did not define it as such. No one else has ever put it into law either. Yes, for this to be legally applied to any candidate, the term needs to be defined. Sorry that you can not grasp how the law works.

It is an official document that can be used to prove citizenship. Obama is not refusing to release the long form. So even if he did gain Indonesian citizenship through adoption (of which there is no proof), he would not have lost his US citizenship. A certification of live birth is a form of the birth certificate. It contains the date and location of his birth, and is good enough for the State Department. It is also the only form the state of Hawaii will release. This is true in general, not just for Obama. They will not release his, or anyones, long form. That's just the way it works there. What difference does it make though. He has an official document that clearly states he was born in Hawaii.
