the record breaker of the century.this tornado was the biggest, fastest most dangerous tornado to hit since ted fugita invented the fugita scale, how do i know this?, they had to rewrite the scale after this tornado hit, it was off the charts.
This is what kills me, living in Tornado Alley, especially in most of Texas and Oklahoma: the meteorologists always say, "You need to be below ground with this storm." Uhhh ... would be fine, if underground shelters/basements were available?!? Not here. Sad. Excellent video, 5/5 stars.
Wow! The air is just plain black. My dream is to see a tornado in real life once. I think I have to go to Tornado Alley one day in the future :-) I am from the Netherlands by the way...no tornado's here. ;-(
Best comment I heard during this coverage was "This is NOT something to fart around with folks!" You know they are serious when they are losing it like that on air. I have the whole thing on tape from touchdown to the next day. I came in when I saw the storm building and put a tape in to record...just in case.
This is the 03MAY99 F5. At first when it touches down near Chickasha, it looks like a small, weak tornado until you see how intense the circulation is at the surface. Val Caster and his wife were chasing it, and Gary England was at the Channel 9 station in OKC watching everything unfold on doppler radar. When I heard him say "you need to be below ground" on the radio, my blood went cold. I had never heard him say that before, so I knew he was serious.
I'm in Northern Indiana and we get a few twisters here and there, some pretty devistating including the Van Wert OH, and Napannee IN. I've only seen a couple personally in almost 30 years. You guys seem to get them all the time by the way everyone seems to talk. Just curious on how many you've seen?
wow i hope i never have to go through anything like that or the may 3rd 1999 F5 these things r massive!!I can't even imagine how all of you that went through that felt.

There are already tornadoes in Germany. I know one in the 60s was an F4, possibly an F5.

gary overreacts sometimes but this was different. he saved many lives

@burtonfan2 Gary overreacts? He is the usualy the calmest of the three weathermen in OKC. If you want freak out watch Mike Morgan & David Payne.
