Ya you need engine braking. It plays a pivotal role in successfully navigating a bike around a race track. I'm sure they will develop a transmission & some sort of fly wheel to mimic those levels of inertia. Brilliant none the less. I wanna race one.
The FIM has sanctioned a series exclusively for this bike in 2010. Should make for great T.V. as well as racing.
So how do you charge these things? Fossil fuel fueled plug sockets right?! Sorry but until you can charge (and build) them without the use of coal powered power stations etc then they aren't Zero carbon.
I think it's a good and interesting but it's not going to save the world.
Electricity can become as low-carbon as we decide to make it. Just keep adding more wind power, hydro, nuclear, etc. to the grid.
In contrast, petroleum keeps increasing in carbon footprint, as the easy oil runs out, and humans resort to tar sands, heavy oils, enhanced recovery, and oil from the Middle East with enormous geopolitical cost. What is the carbon footprint of the Iraq war?
Electrifying transport is a step in the right direction. Obviously it will take many more steps.
There are ways to produce electricity without fossil fuel (nuclear, hydrolic, wind, solar...). You just have to remember that electricity is NOT A SOURCE OF ENERGY. It's a medium. But you're right : if we replace all the energy we burn on the road by electricity : we'll need a huge power plant for every village (and run out of uranium quick)
The sound is terrible!
