Who in the right mind would drink coffee or alcohol and still think of winning the race? And eating fruit when now we have pieces of super goo to give more energy in five seconds.
Unbelievable. Cycling was human. Today, who feels like identifying oneself like a robot full of technologies, ultra doping in a business media event? Give us back the authentic Tour de France where it was the celebration of the summer, the joie de vivre? Who killed the tour de France?
True. Every generation seems to yearn for the days of "yore." All forms of sport become increasing technical through the years...especially when people begin to realize how drinking a bottle of freaking wine during an endurance race won't do much to help put you in the lead. Save the liquor for the celebrations and Sunday rides with friends :)
@PatriceauQuebec Well, you are not quite right... At that time, there was no doping control, and even Anquetil said later that he was in excessive use of drugs. Today there is more dope control
Fantasique! Great someone has finally posted this. Ah, pro cycling as God intended it to be: lugged steel cycles, 10-speeds, wool jerseys and cotton caps. Many thanks indeed for reminding us when bikes were steel and men were men.
Grandioso!!!

Wow, Mafac brakes (a few seconds before the very end)! I remember those from Peugeots in the 1970s!

@PatriceauQuebec Doping is nothing new. The 60s were just as bad for drug taking.

Because in 1960s France, if you were hot during a bike race, you drank champagne.
