You're half right, but completely wrong. My ancestors no longer think of themselves as "German, English or whatever", we think of ourselves as Americans. Mexicans, though, because of their PHYSICAL proximity to their Third World homeland, still hold onto their Mexican-ness, rather than becoming American. And Mexico makes an effort to reach them with Spanish-language radio and TV, and speeches from MEXICO'S President! It's like they never left Mexico, but Americans are paying for them now!
