He does this because in the movie it does this. It is to show the kids the instruments and how they sound..etc. :) the first tuning, I think they were really tuning. The second tuning and so on, is following the movie.
Nice - although I don't understand why they first Tune their instruments, then the speaker tells that the orchestra is tuning up, then the musicians tune up their instruments ??????
I've always wanted to hear this little musical story that I loved deeply as a seven year old again thirty five years later. Thank you so much for sharing this video, and for performing for us. I was touched. :)
What a pleasure it is to see and hear this. And to see the Joy in you (Eli) and especially the apparent natural exhuberance in Carolyn! Kids of all ages love this one. Keep up the posts. Thanks. Randy
This is fabulous. Apparently not many people have heard it since there are no comments. I loved listening to this as a child as I do now. Thanks for posting it!

Tuba had great tone. I appreciate hearing the story again.

He is the principal tuba of the Boston Symphony. I wish the other players were the principals of the orchestra.

There was a "Tubby The Tuba"book published
by Wonder/Treasure Books back in the 1950's. Mr.David Tripp appeared with his father in
"The Christmas That Almost Wasn't".

I forgot to meniont that character actor and
dialectician:Victor Jory..who had narrated the
"Puppetoon"film version of "Tubby"also told the
story on disk too.

I've always enjoyed this wonderful children's
musical story created by messers:Tripp & Kleinsinger. There have many interpretations of"Tubby"on disks.
Sonny Fox,Chubby Jackson,David Wayne,Danny Kaye,
Johnny Andrews and Paul Tripp himself have narrated
this story on record.
