Star Wars shares much more in common with High Fantasy than with Science Fiction. Where Star Trek is just boring SciFi.

Good point. But the bridge between reality and Star Trek is not so far. Star Wars is in the same boat as mermaids and leprechauns. Trek appeals to the intellect, whereas Star Wars appeals mainly to the action/sfx genre.

@TheMorningCoffee Don't kid yourself, Trekkie. Neither one of them is realistic in the least, but at least Star Wars doesn't have the intellectual pretentions of Star Trek. Any physicist or engineer can tell you that nearly all of the science and technology of Star Trek is bullshit. In addition, Star Trek lost the small edge of realism it had over Star Wars when it introduced the Q, who is just as fantastical and mystical as The Force.

Star Wars is actually SPACE-Opera genre. Check wikipedia about this sub-genre of Science-Fiction.

Space Opera deals with fantastic voyages, space battles between the good and evil forces, and these battles are of epic proportions, while the heroes of the story are almost super heroes when we look at their capabilities. Star Wars has it all-- Alien worlds, vast galaxy, Epic battles in space, romance, and epic heroes on both sides.Cheers :)

Star Trek is also a Space-Opera for it also deals with space travel and the usage of technology for the benefit of mankind ( the Original Series ). Here we also have a group of extraordinary people who are committed to their tasks.
