If this is strictly about solos, Adrian Smith on Stranger in a Strange Land is one of the best leads ever written in my opinion, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman are God awful at leads, and I don't know much about Avenged Sevenfold.

Avenged sevenfold sounds like a mix of melodic power metal and gaycore, don't get me wrong, they are very good musicians with an amazing technique but even with that they are just kids if you compare them with maiden or slayer.
