Also, I really like how in the intro, your friends get shot down and you're the one with your tail between your legs... ...but then at the end of the game you see the trashed ships all over the place that look like your friends.. "Oh yeah I remember that! Then I got chased away like a pus-...wait a minute!!! WHO'S GOT THEIR TAIL BETWEEN THEIR LEGS NOW??"

Yeah I remember that. Playing that part was good, with my ship being all powerful and the final boss running like a pussy.

It basically lets you play through the first four stages of the game, but not in sequential order. If you pick one and beat it, game over. stage 4 goes from arrival on the planet to the big wall still on the surface.

I have got this game on a 4 game compilation pack.I have been playing it recently while I was away on holiday and for some reason I just could not get past the second level boss.That force field keeps on blowing my ship up especially when it drags the ship forwards.I press the opposite button when it drags me forward and I still get destroyed.Looked as though your ship hit the forcefield at 3:25 and yet you survived!!

Im not sure, but that thing that chases you in the beggining(astreiod part), that thing looks very fimaliar to the thing that captures you in the second level, only turned.

Sorry to double comment, but if you pause at 7:39, you can see a Moai-like face during the explosion of the "alien ship".

BTW, I was also pretty impressed by the final boss... he DID something!

Wow! Those cutscenes are impressive... for a 8-bit videogame. Shoot'em up games like Gradius need more epic cutscenes.

I loved this game. I thought the difficulty was spot on. hard enough to die (and dying meant losing all the power-ups), but still beatable... which this was the only side-scroller shooter I ever beat. The boss battles were memorable, the cut-scenes and level introductions were awesome... just so cool.
