Technically he has matured since in the episode where he dated Valerie, he said he didn't care if she was using him. And also, Sam was the one who told Freddie, Carly only loved what he did. Yeah, great seddieness! The way I see it, Freddie saw the car, was like, "AH! SAM"S IN THE LINE OF FIRE!!!" Then the car started coming fully through the wall and he thought, "AHH! I"M ALSO IN THE LINE OF FIRE!!" So it ended up being like a "Must shield Sam! NO! Must shield self!" moment.
Either way it was amazingly awesome!
