Reminds me of the discharges from a old Violet Ray devices
LOL! since you're making plasmballs, I was wondering if you've looked into those? I think there might even be a market for someone to make replacement wands for those.
There are some interesting new theories of how the devices actually work concerning health; it goes right to the functions of basic cellular biology.
No complete instructions have ever been posted online, and most of the formulas are propietary and unpublished. If you bought premade globe blanks and had about $1,000 worth of lab equipment and rare gases I could write up a set of instructions, but it could take some practice to get to the point the globes would look right. Constructing a globe filling station and sealing glass globes can be a bit tricky and requires some special skills.
So do I. But they were way too expensive and some of them died on me, so I am teaching myself how to make them from scratch at home, so I can create a "plasma lightshow" whenever i want one... :)
Wind a couple of turns of Nichrome wire around the ampule to melt the glass after you establish the vacuum. Reheating it will put more into the chamber. But, it would forever be a bad idea open that again. Cesium in the ampule could then vaporize without oxidizing.
I agree. Without a video to show I don't think anyone would beieve me if I told them a globe could do this rope trick. I have uploaded some other videos of this same Parker edition if you are interested.
I am sorry to report it was bought as part of a large lot of surplus glass globes that are no longer available. I believe Wayne Strattman with Strattman Design in Boston knows how to duplicate this mixture--I have seen photos posted from other collectors that look a lot like this globe.
why not. They are editioned artwork. That would be nice knowing what they were called. Where did you get the light sculptures? Are you sure they are Bill Parker's art work?
that globe is so different and just weird to me I think it is unique and very cool. are you having a power supply issue looks like your getting alot of corona around the electrode the reason I ask is because I recently had to fix the same issue.
Actually it's fine. Aside from the end of the rope breaking into agitated-looking lightning streamers because I have the power level set very high and me coaxing the rope to cascade into the stem, this globe is just an overactive sample of what this gas mix is designed to do.
This is my fav sphere so far!!
Very cool.

Try adding cesium.

Roger that---after I figure out how to get something that reactive to air into a globe without oxiding it

The gas mixture is a propietary formula made by Bill Parker so I can't tell you what's inside this globe.

Trippy. I was thinking about putting this comment, but I couldn't look away for more than a quarter-second.
