@bipulroy2010 clearly you don't understand much about songs and music. Try to go beyond regionalism and hatred. Asha and Waheeda are well accalimed ladies in their respective career paths.
First of all, all these posts are completely ignorant and shows a complete lack of knowledge for the historical facts. This Indian version is copied off of a song titled Quizas Quizas Quizas, composed by a Cuban man in 1947 and has been sung in Latin America and elsewhere since then. Doris Day and Nat King Cole sure sang the song for years and acknowledged who wrote it, unlike in this movie. Please get your facts straight before posting, there are people in this world who actually know!
Were it not for music, we might in these days say, the Beautiful is dead. No matter who sang and who sings, this piece is equally enchanting and lively. Lets enjoy!

@Fight4Tibet I don't know why I am even responding to this comment. But what you are thinking is not correct. There are 12 notes, and you can make "infinitely many" (figuratively!) new songs with it. This is one of many IMMORTAL GEETA DUTT songs. It may have some inspiration from some other song. MDs of 50s and 60s gave us thousands of IMMORTAL songs and few were inspired from outside. @janakpp the original spanish version "quizas quizas quizas" was written by cuban songwriter osvaldo farres around 1947 - Joe Davis then wrote the English version "perhaps perhaps perhaps" - I think all three versions (spanish, english, and hindi) due to how welll adapted to their respective cultures :)
Kia khoob song hei aur Shama ki kamal Acting (please correct me if I am wrong because the actress is Shama as I assume). Wah wah dil khush hota hei jab bhi aise song sunta hoon, mere Ami mere qhareeb aajati thein jab mein aise gane sunta hoon.
And anyone who believes AR Rahman is original or even good is completely out of their mind. His good songs are copies and others (the majority) do not even qualify as music.
I absolutely agree with skatraga. Nothing similar apart form the couple of notes. How can anything even compare to this timeless classic by Nayyarsaab sung with such gusto by Geeta Dutt? Nayyar - you will live for ever and beyond through your absolutely brilliant music.
Shakeela really looked great in this song. She appereaed very girlish. Guru dutt was incredible in offering roles to suitable actresses. No one can be like Guru Dutt. He was a man considered ahead of his time. He will remain alive in the heart and soul of his fans.
assholes.....its a vintage song don make any kind off fucking alligations to this beautifully make and sung song....it may be co incident if some tune match to another song....n i guess this song is way more old than quizas......
Wow. The singer is absolutely gorgeous. I did Google on Shakeela and all I got was a porn actress. Can someone point me to a website with more information on Shakeela?

@pradtheprophet Thx. Doris is doing no wrong since she is wearing clothes as per culture of her country. I feel disgusted about those who ogle at her legs and call her the greatest singer.
@bxj55 I was being sarcastic, I like the Doris Day version better. I feel her legs and her skirt somehow influence your ability to appreciate music....so it appears that to you anyone who like Doris Day's version better is somehow purely influenced by 'her legs'. I suggest you open your mind and stop judging others based on what they like(and you dislike)....and esp stop judging Doris Day's musical prowess like you are some like of musical genius.....Peace!

@Mimulynn First of all two quick lines about Geeta Dutt singer of this song. She was the top Indian singer when she sang these lines. She fell in love with Guru Dutt whom you see eating roasted grams in this clip and married him. The marriage did not go well and both of them left this world at quite an early age. Still you may check upon her songs and you are bound to fall in love with this beautiful voice. And don't forget to look up at her photographs. She was a typical Bengali beauty.
@Mimulynn Now I will like you to do a little experiment. Try to sing the lines Babuji Dheere Chalna in the tune of quizzas quizzas quizzas. Ask 100 persons if you sound like Geeta here. Even if one says yes, i will take it. My friend, tune is different, instruments are different, words are different, where is the copy. Yes perhaps perhaps perhaps is a true copy. I already wrote that. And what about dance of Shakila here? Isn't it lovely? But forget the legs. You cant even see ankles.
About Geeta her base is in Rabindra Sangeet and folk songs rather than in Nat King. Listen to Janu janu re. Here you see two lovely ladies laughing at each others love affair sung by Geeta and Asha. Which Western musician has even come near such an Idea. Listen to Piya aiso jiya me samay gayo re. I tell you when Geeta sings the lines more angan me jub purvaiyya chale, the windows in your brain will open to admit the air full of love. Well Geeta has no match. Whether it is her beauty or melody.
Doris Day copied original cuban latin song Quizas, Quizas, Quizas............... Tis quizas quizas song has been copied many2 time. In Arab now called Belaaks, In Malay 'Dari Kerana Mata mu". Nat King Cole sang this Quizas, Quizas also.
This is taken from DORIS DAYS -- PERHAPS LOVE song... a very very nice song... during second world war Dorris days songs were telecasted by radio for British and american soldiers
GEETA DUTTA copied DORRIS DAYS style of singing................
lata is overrated. she had an exquisite voice, but could never manage much intensity of expression. geeta dutt makes every word throb with meaning. the only other singer who could that was kl saigal.
op nayar aur asha ki ustaad GEETA DUT ki awaz jis say inspired ho kay asha gee nay gana shuro kya ki jaan leva combination YES I AM TALKING ABOUT THE ONE AND ONLY OP NAYAR
Beg to differ - neither is it the same arrangement, neither tempo nor timbre nor even parallels the octaves. Not a copy ... and in english they translated it to perhaps ... perhaps ... perhaps.
This video/page is Indian. We Indians will die but wont admit that its a blatant copy. Tunes & lyrics are similar, but no matter what evidence will be placed here, we wont admit its copied. Anyone who mentions that OP nayyar copied it will only be thoughtlessly ridiculed. So basically, suggesting nayyar copied it, is tantamount to banging your head against the wall of a few million Indians. Why cant we just admit it. This song was even copied by the Malays dari kerana mata. Bloody jingoists.
Well, the first recording of the song (quizas, quizas) was done by Tony Bavaar and Gordon Jenkins in 1949, and released by Decca Records - well before 'Babuji'. Originally written and composed by Cuban songwriter Osvaldo Farres - was a hit since 1947. It is possible that OP nayar was 'inspired' by the FIRST recorded version, and not by Nat King Cole, because Cole's recording first appeared in 1958 - 4 years after 'Babuji'. Doris Day recorded 'perhaps' much later, in 1964.
Well said Spanish Caravan. Just a little point though: artists have taken inspiration from one another. There is nothing wrong with that if they take permission and acknowledge that. See my comment a couple of years ago.
OP Nayyar was a "Japanese" kind of music director in those days in that He was just a copycat copying or stealing wonderfully most of his music from the western world. And the Madras music directors in turn copied Nayyar. Thankk God, we now have originals like AR RAHMAN, who can not only compose ANY KIND OF MUSIC, but singing them inimitably as in Jhodha Akbar
You have some nerve to say something like this. OP Nayyar was a wonderfully talented composer. Go check ITWOFS to see how many of OP's songs are actually copied - very few. And he had such an innate sense for Indian classical music - even though he wasn't a trained musician.
wah janab wah kya baat hai. what a great old song. thanks janab for posting this old great song. the actress looks zabardast in this great video. thanks for posting this laajawab song, this is aman dayani from toronto canada.

not really, there's hardly any similarity.. and 'perhaps perhaps perhaps' is itself a cover of 'quizas'
seeget 2 years ago
Nope. Doris sang it ten years later, atleast that's when it was recorded.(Source:wiki) Besides, Geeta Dutt sounds much better.

lata is overrated. she had an exquisite voice, but could never manage much intensity of expression. geeta dutt makes every word throb with meaning. the only other singer who could that was kl saigal.

her voice, geeta ji's is far more natural and beautiful unlike lata ji's squeeky high pitched voice.

so true.. better than asha ji too
ConfusedSponge 2 years ago
If you think Lata Ji's voice is squeeky then u should perhaps listen to ''Mogara Phulala'' by Lata Ji. No offence meant. I respect your opinion.

Beg to differ - neither is it the same arrangement, neither tempo nor timbre nor even parallels the octaves. Not a copy ... and in english they translated it to perhaps ... perhaps ... perhaps.

i love this song...but i'm watching the video for the first time, and she looks kinda possessed.

Bloody jingoists.
spanishcaravann 3 years ago
Well, the first recording of the song (quizas, quizas) was done by Tony Bavaar and Gordon Jenkins in 1949, and released by Decca Records - well before 'Babuji'. Originally written and composed by Cuban songwriter Osvaldo Farres - was a hit since 1947. It is possible that OP nayar was 'inspired' by the FIRST recorded version, and not by Nat King Cole, because Cole's recording first appeared in 1958 - 4 years after 'Babuji'. Doris Day recorded 'perhaps' much later, in 1964.
DOUBLU123 3 years ago
Well said Spanish Caravan. Just a little point though: artists have taken inspiration from one another. There is nothing wrong with that if they take permission and acknowledge that. See my comment a couple of years ago.
sds1943 3 years ago
OP Nayyar was a "Japanese" kind of music director in those days in that He was just a copycat copying or stealing wonderfully most of his music from the western world. And the Madras music directors in turn copied Nayyar. Thankk God, we now have originals like AR RAHMAN, who can not only compose ANY KIND OF MUSIC, but singing them inimitably as in Jhodha Akbar
Emgeeyaar 3 years ago
You have some nerve to say something like this. OP Nayyar was a wonderfully talented composer. Go check ITWOFS to see how many of OP's songs are actually copied - very few. And he had such an innate sense for Indian classical music - even though he wasn't a trained musician.

The actress is Suraiyya if I'm not wrong. I was not born in that generation but still love this song.

Shakeela. Actually I don't blame you - Shakeela had a striking resemblance to Suraiyya - except Suraiyya had these enormous eyes.
