....hi..my lovely mark !.I believe that your are my heart eyes ..a long time I waited for it.// 1.9 .this song is very strange but he always sings very good..his voice make me out ..of mind ..I falled in love for him long time ago but I think he haven't changed not at all....he expressed a lot of sensual fashion sophisticated emotions....
Who , the one on the left with the glasses? Don´t seem to be him but the image is so grainy... Look up for "Such a Shame TopPop dutch tv" , now THAT´S Tim I believe!
This from the Jazz festival and it is not 1986 it is earlier. In the Montreaux Live DVD 1986 performance Hollis is wearing a blue shirt.
i think this is in the "Its my life" album tour saw this performance on UKTV before the Colour of Spring era.
Alot of the guitar sounds are keyboard driven Dum dum girl, Tomorrow started, Such a shame, give it up, i don`t beleive in you. all have a solo which eminates from a keyboard synth..possibly a roland jupiter 8.
in my humble opinion i think mark hollis is fantastic live a lot of performers sound bloody awfull i really liked aflock of seagulls but live they suck
Well, the acoustic guitar was miked up, so technically it's electric. Almost :o) I was just being pedantic, sorry!
But when I saw them later in their career they did have a guitarist, can't think of his name but he played a Steinberger headless. As for theri live sound, I do think there was a fair bit of 'post-production enhancement' going on there. They weren't miming but I'm sure stuff was added afterwards.
Anyone who thinks this is not live obviously has not listened to the album version that many times. This is quite different from the album version and it is so clear that it is live that I cannot see how anyone would doubt it.
Well Wouter maybe in that MOntreaux rock festival you say you've searched the performances were mimed, but this is Montreaux Jazz Festival, and I have been attending for so many years as I live in Switzerland, I can tell u they are not...
While it does give every indicator of being a mimed performance it is still a freakin' thrill to see this thing on youtube. So far today Spud has found it's My Life, Such a Shame, Life's wot you make it, I believe in you (From Spirit of Eden) and now Dum Dum girl. Of course Spud is come u-tubin' in quest of "April 5th"
Not to burst your bubble here, but I have very strong suspicions that this is a mimed performance. The most obvious give away being the guitar solo. No electric guitar on stage so where is it coming from?
I searched it up, all of the "performances" on the Montreux rock festival were mimed. And in 1986 Keyboards didn't have the ability yet to sound THAT close to an overdriven guitar sound yet.
I think they are playing live but possibly supplemented with a backing track for the incidental stuff. the lead guitar sounds like a synth to me. Moogs and SQs have been able to do good electric lead sounds for years before this as anyone unfortunate enough to have Jan Hammer can tell you
Best friend was there. Not mimed friend. Sorry, but he attended THIS performance and will attest to it's validity. I also caught them in Denver MANY years ago at the Fillmore (10 feet from the stage) and Dum Dum sounded just as good as this. Don't hate them for being that good live.
One of the few times that Tim Friese Greene went on stage...

I cant actually see an electric guitar on stage, (apart from the bass - of course)! Really good to see it though! thanks for posting.

You can't see a guitar? Er, look closer mate!!
JJ62 3 years ago
Read my comment properly...of course there's a guitar, but its a bass guitar. There is no lead guitarist on stage....
bassmanjupp 3 years ago
So the acoustic guitar doesn't count as a guitar, then? As a bass player I can tell the difference, thanks!
JJ62 3 years ago
Read it PROPERLY...no LEAD guitarist on stage. Anyway, does it REALLY matter? It was just an observation, not a criticism. Chill out a bit!

Definitely live, but with a backing track or Fairlight/s off stage which might have some of the harmonies loaded in.
