Miss Baker, was the original, the unique; Then Grace Jones, and now Lady GAGA. these women have the courageous to wear things that nobody would and always look fantastic, even if, in the process they do not look 'SEXY" OR "BEAUTIFUL. Josephine, was a Vedette in the tradition of singing, dancing acting, and having opera vocal register. And she was TALENTED,
@joesarr58 ...That was the style back then! also at her age she held that hat up very well( it was heavy and awkward to wear) i bet you couldn't wear that hat as elegantly as she did at her age...so lets not be nasty!
I wish there could be an official release of her many performances from this era where her voice was at its richest and her costumes their most extravagant!
STOP BEING STERO TYPE VFORD 43....Her make up is good thanks to Ms. Brigette that was one of her best freinds who was a trans girl who prevent Les Milandes from being sold in 1964....but four year later she lost Les Milnades
She was STILL looking great at 68!!! I saw her Olympia '68 performance on here when she was 62 and she was just beautiful!!! She could show these so called divas a thing or 2.
La Belle Josephine........tu est formidable! Une vraie vedette. She never looked ridiculous.....she was one of a kind and will still be remembered when most of the 80's 90's etc are forgotten. je t'aime toujours. Thank you for this posting.
There are several ironies to her life. One of them is that the night of her debacle at The Stork Club with proprietor Sherman Billingsley, movie star Grace Kelly was in the club and a witness to the unfortunate event that set off an international scandal. It was later that that same movie star provided economic support to the then fallen Baker and her children in Monaco.
Wow, Josephine Baker was simply amazing. She could have shown the people of my generation (Gen X) a thing or two. Such class, such beauty...just a well-rounded performer.
Man, I wish I could just see her for five minutes just to tell her how brilliant she was and how much I love her and that she was truly a trailblazer!!! Rest in peace Ms. Josephine Baker. Does anyone know whats become of her estate that she lost? Is it still up because I took a trip to Paris and my tourguided acted like he didn't know who I was talking about.

Um, did they seriously have to make her wear that? I mean, just because she can't dance anymore at this time doesn't mean they have to make her look ridiculous.. :(
What do you mean? Josephine was famous for her feathers from the beginning on. And this clip is from the seventies so the suit maybe look a little old fashion but i would like that some artists would wear this kind of costumes rather then what they are now wearing....
whoa.......who is "they"?? Josephine was NEVER "made" to wear anything. La Baker was of the tradition of the old music hall, where a stage spectacle was grand and fabulous (and the women were scantily-clad in costumes with gigantic head-dresses). Ridiculous?? Not even close.
I pray I look 1/2 as good as she does when I'm that age. She was working that bodysuit, feathers and all!!! Folks who are criticizing have to realize this was the 70s and that was the LOOK!!!
Thank You! Merci Beaucoup! for this fantastic video of Madame Josephine! When I performed in Las Vegas, I was compared to her many times. There will never be another Josephine. See me performing on You Tube. Jakki Ford Vocalist,Actress, dancer.Loved It!!! Keep the videos coming !I'm a big fan.
