Sure we had some big X-flares on cycle 23, but none hit us directly on. The next cycle 24 is slow to start, it has me concerned a bit. Down 10% and no surface activity. Now we have an excuse to burn all the oil. I think the Sun will suprize us though. There is still much we don't know.

Good post, but I think that solar blasts would rarely hit the Earth, and they would also have cooled by then.
The Mayan calendar simply ends and does not state the world will end in 2012.
