This video was both pretty funny and valuable to me as a programmer and lead developer of an ambitious project. We've had a lot of infighting about whether players want arcade-style features or simulation-like realism. I'm an old hardcore flight simmer, and side with aiming for realism.

Also, circlestrafing around an enemy who is shooting at you is the best way to stay alive because you can circlestrafe faster than turn.
Oh, and not all 3d games have characters grunting when jumping.

The only thing realistic about modern games are the graphics.. they're getting closer and closer to photo-realism, but you still have a health meter, and can carry 14 guns, and a shovel at the same time.

They give you a melee weapon so that you have some kind of chance, however slim it may be. The characters in the game look like that because the player is moving the mouse in the same way. They grunt to let you know that you have jumped, and is it that annoying to you? Humans can make different noises, because we have voices with many different pitches. Games record one sound and use it over and over again.
Most games have one speed of the character moving, regardless of direction, so you can strafe/go backwards as fast as you can run fowards. You circle strafe, because the monsters (and people sometimes) shoot where you are, but since you're moving in a circle, they miss, or they can't turn enough to keep up with you. You are then usually behind them for an easy shot.
And its usually not done with melee weapons like you show, since most games have guns, which means the hammer-man would be killed before he even gets there. Overly animated... people like drama. They don't want to see some guy drop dead, they want to see him wirthe in pain.
Does real life have lag? What the fuck kind of question is that? Of course not! Computers need time to talk to each other, especially when there's 30+ computers hooked up to one server, what do you expect? And techically, if you have a good connection, you won't have to deal with lag.
Also, it's not just 3D games. Ever play Starcraft? That's a sprite RTS, people lag 24/7.
In most games, people have these things called "frags", which is how many times they have killed each other. Compare the two numbers, and you'll find out who has killed more. In real life, if you could only punch foward, and not up and down, you'd crouch to avoid the persons punch. By the way, I don't know why you keep talking about melee combat, because it almost NEVER HAPPENS. Use your guns from far away, that's what they're for.

But really dude, if you don't like it, MINIMIZE THE SATUS BAR. Its "-" for DooM, and for pretty much all the quakes you can set it to only show the health/ammo, so you really don't need to complain about something that's optional to be there.

And actually, I feel like I've lagged down my stairs before when I've paused to think, and put my foot down to fall down the stairs. I did that last week after watching this video and I said, "Where have I seen THIS before?".

I have to disagree with you on strafing. It can look pretty cool on film (if not real life). If you watch the ending duel in "the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", watch Van Cleef strafe to his spot. That's an excellent scene.
He was ready to fire his gun at any moment while he walked sideways. His walk showed how cautious he was since walking normally would not have allowed him to keep his eye on both of his opponents.
I love side scroller but hate just about any 3-D game that comes out millions of pixels to focus your eyes on game programmers are just out to make you blind.
Short of virtual reality, there is now way to fix a large number of the problems you brought up in this video. Also, pleople do crouch in fire fights, it makes you a smaller target. They also side step, lean, go prone, and move alot when they are shot and/or stabbed. People do not simply stand there. I shall use your own example. If someone is shot in the balls in a fire fight you think they are going to lay down and cry? No, they will scramble to find cover.

This makes me laugh continuously! Especially the screams at the end of the deaths at that Online Multiplayer Deathmatch. XD
I strafe along my hallway to keep my mom from waking up and yelling, and I realize how stupid I feel. And actually, I feel like I've lagged down my stairs before when I've paused to think, and put my foot down to fall down the stairs. I did that last week after watching this video and I said, "Where have I seen THIS before?".

I have to disagree with you on strafing. It can look pretty cool on film (if not real life). If you watch the ending duel in "the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", watch Van Cleef strafe to his spot. That's an excellent scene.

He was ready to fire his gun at any moment while he walked sideways. His walk showed how cautious he was since walking normally would not have allowed him to keep his eye on both of his opponents.

Short of virtual reality, there is now way to fix a large number of the problems you brought up in this video. Also, pleople do crouch in fire fights, it makes you a smaller target. They also side step, lean, go prone, and move alot when they are shot and/or stabbed. People do not simply stand there. I shall use your own example. If someone is shot in the balls in a fire fight you think they are going to lay down and cry? No, they will scramble to find cover.

wow your so stupid.. 3d games cant do realistic affects because we havent hit that kind of technology. maybe in the future, 3d games will be more realistic, but not now, there isnt the technology. you over look it way too much
