I would have to agree with you on some levels about this, but what YOU NEED TO LEARN is modern culture and traditional culture are two different things! Yes NZ is a Westernised country and thank God for that! But it's the distinct Polynesian flavour that sets NZ European apart from the likes of Austalia and Briatain. We have fought for this for many years and the main objective is for us to work together to clean it up, stop pollution and conserve it for future generations. This govt now wants to sell of NZ owned assets and large parts of conservation areas and land to overseas investors, creating less opportunities for NZ'ers, why don't you open your eyes and put your energy into something worthwhile

The cession of that sovereignty was a necessary preliminary to a Royal Aquisition 5 years later in 1840 by Queen Victoria. NZ wasn't gifted or shared, it was "annexed" .

The MAori were never conquered. The British were losing in 1870 and proposed a peace treaty with the opposing maori.
Statistically the British were losing badly. From 20-50k troops to less than 10k while the maori stood with more than 5000 after losing atleast 1-2000.
Remember, there were Maori who fought on the British side contributing 30% of their strength.
Europeans brought Disease to NZ. Maori rarely had any sickness' before the Europeans arrived.

I would have to agree with you on some levels about this, but what YOU NEED TO LEARN is modern culture and traditional culture are two different things! Yes NZ is a Westernised country and thank God for that! But it's the distinct Polynesian flavour that sets NZ European apart from the likes of Austalia and Briatain. For example.. A farmer has two farms, gives one to his son.. his son then decides to sell that farm to the govt, although all the farms are under the same family it does not give the govt the right to all the family farms! Imagine it being your family.. YOUR FARM! You know very little of early NZ history.. most lands were confiscated forcefully and illegally, a small minority was sold in small portions. My iwi have recently sealed an agreement with the local council for co management of our river, the Waikato. We have fought for this for many years and the main objective is for us to work together to clean it up, stop pollution and conserve it for future generations. This govt now wants to sell of NZ owned assets and large parts of conservation areas and land to overseas investors, creating less opportunities for NZ'ers, why don't you open your eyes and put your energy into something worthwhile

Confiscations account for only 6% of the land in Maori ownership prior to 1840, or 3.2 million acres and 1.9 million was returned prior to 1900. 94% or 63 million acres was sold by greedy, short sighted Maoris. The cession of that sovereignty was a necessary preliminary to a Royal Aquisition 5 years later in 1840 by Queen Victoria. NZ wasn't gifted or shared, it was "annexed" .

The MAori were never conquered. The British were losing in 1870 and proposed a peace treaty with the opposing maori.
Statistically the British were losing badly. From 20-50k troops to less than 10k while the maori stood with more than 5000 after losing atleast 1-2000.
Remember, there were Maori who fought on the British side contributing 30% of their strength.
Europeans brought Disease to NZ. Maori rarely had any sickness' before the Europeans arrived.

Maori Rebels were never defeated. The Rebels in 1860's eventually signed a treaty in the 1871.

Maori full force was atleast 6000 or more. The British had over 20,000 or more.
But the British were not land wise and were outclassed in every battle.
British had to make a peace agreement with the Maori. No one won the wars dumbass.

By the 1860s all the Maori rebels were either killed or imprisoned in the South Island and Chathams. Rebel tribes were systematically annaialated by the British who allocated less than 2% of her forces to the entire Pacific. It's true that in some battles feirce resistance was met, but despite the ludicrous claims of the modern Maori revisionists, British victory was complete and absolute.
