I'm all for reel mowers from a cost, noise and sustainabliity standpoint, but I have no interest in the dubious climate change/global warming issues. There are two sides to the debate, and unfortunately it appears that this kid was presented with only one side. I doubt his parents/teachers brought up the frauds of the IPCC or the East Anglia research center. I suppose they also forgot to mention the fundamental rule that correlation doesn't imply causation, so we can't say CO2 levels affect temp
@jimbad05 you would be wrong in assuming that we don't talk about both sides of the issue, including the IPCC and East Anglia. Carrick probably knows more about both sides of the climate change debate than the average American. Like you pointed out, there are many reasons to be for reel mowers, regardless whether or not you agree with most of the world's climate scientists.
@carrickgareth 'Most of the world's climate scientists' are on the take from George Soros and the global banking cartels. Besides, I could give a sh1t about what 'most of the world's any body thinks. I'm an American, and I don't allow others to think for me.
@jimbad05 You're a stupid paranoid idiot, fortunately you count for nothing. Your despicable illiterate mooing is irritating though if that's any consolation for your terrified addled brain.
@nilbud Why don't you prove your science for me? Why not explain a less-economically harmful way to capture carbon? Wouldn't that be more productive than spewing your hateful rhetoric towards me? Many others feel as I do, I doubt name-calling will convince them to adopt your viewpoint.
@carrickgareth Given the fact that scientists believed in global cooling as late as the 1970's, and called current climate phenomenon "Global Warming" instead of "climate change" only a few short years ago, I'm skeptical. The frauds exposed at the East Anglia research center, and by the IPCC, make me even more skeptical. The fact that GE and anyone else who can rebrand their business as "green" in some tangential way can stand to make millions on this environmental hysteria, make me question.
I think it's cool because this kid will probably work in Hollywood. My wife wanted to grow some grass and I worked on a lawn crew in high school. I cut hundreds of lawns and hate lawn mowers. I bought the reel mower because of the grass. It sucks, but it's better that the noise and smells of the other kind of mowers.
I don't know whether climate change is something to worry about or not, but it just seems logical to want clean air. Kids gotta point...I hate hearing my neighbors lawn mower at 0500 die...then he has to start it back up...then he has to rev it a few times...then it dies...then he shouts at it, etc etc etc...
I have to say that litter is a problem. Every time I go to the lake there is trash EVERYWHERE. I go to get serenity and get a butt full of an old nightcrawler bucket or hook in the foot.
I bought a reel mower last year and love it. I got so tired of going out to mow and not having enough gas, or the mower not starting, or it taking a million pulls to get it started. And yards look MUCH better when they are mowed with a reel mower! It takes me about three hours to do my lawn, but it's worth it.

I switched to a reel mower a year ago and will never go back. Getting out the old power mower was just a chore, but using the reel mower on a summer evening is a delight, even though it takes longer. I also think my lawn is finer and thicker. I think the less brutal cutting action enourages better grass growth. They are safer too. A friend of mine was badly injured a couple of years ago when a blade flew off his power mower and into his leg. Ouch.
it's being taught in science classrooms all over the country, and it's one of the leading issues that kids care about - maybe since they are the ones that will end up dealing with the consequences. Indoctrinated? Maybe you haven't met too many 8-year-olds, because they speak their mind!
oh consequences, you mean like the bill for Trillions they will get for the past 40 yrs of consumption? consequences like that?.. "here yu go kid, latch on to the petty insignificant Lawn Mower/ climate issue" never mind that you will never be able to afford property to grow that lawn on ( think mega high rises instead of suburbia)...sort of like running interference so they wont notice the REEL problem that causes everyone to pitch out the gas powered mower.
It's only a leading issue to kids because Adults are spoon feeding it to them.( no pressure there eh? ) What happened to the day when an 8 yr olds only concern was getting help with a fort? or some other "8 yr old" issue. since when has it been fair to dump adult sized problems on a kid? I guess it makes us feel better that our kids "seem" to care about adult problems, it makes us feel like our kid is exceptionial.. how sad..
I still prefer my old gasoline lawn mower with a nice cloud of blue smoke when I start it, and a bit of smoke while mowing, it helps keep bugs down. I call it my "don't tell Al Gore mower"
You'd never get through my grass with that. (I know because I used to use one.)
Heard the story today about 1 hour mowing a lawn = a car going 200 miles. (I have to wonder about the size of the yard.) How does 1/4 gallon of gas from a mower make as much pollution as a car burning approx 8 gallons? (or 11 cars as you showed?)
The trick with using a reel mower is not to let the grass get too long, so you have to keep it cut regularly, like more than 4TIMESAYEAR. Either that you just have mysterious mutant grass that is different from everyone else's lawn.
A lawn mower engine has no emissions controls and is extremely inefficient, so 30% of the fuel comes out unburned as pollution. If you're lucky enough to be walking behind it that means you're breathing it.
lol - the 4 times a year is a reference to climate change (you're funny)
I think it's barnyard grass and you wouldn't believe how thick and fast it grows. I'd have to do it every 2 days to keep up. I have more problems with the pollen than the exhaust. Peace -
i have a reel mower but its gas powered the engine does dump out alot of unburnt gas and its running as lean as i can get it to without it stalling i guess im going to make a vaporizer carb
Carrick - Great video!! I am very proud of you and want your permission to include a link to your video here on my own website that promotes push reel mowers and lawn sweepers. Take care and keep reelin' in the years.
Great job on the video. Very informational! I applaud your efforts and I think you'll make a lot of change. I just bought my reel mower yesterday and couldn't be more happy. Keep up the hard work!
Not only are you saving gas and cutting down on noise and air pollution, you are also getting a great workout. I have a reel mower and I enjoy reaping the benefits of owning one. No sparkplugs, oil, or gas to worry about. Simplify!
I just got a reel mower because of this video. Didn't know they still sold these things. LOL.
Now I'm doing my bit for the sake of the environment. I can actually listen to my ipod while I'm mowing now.
Many thanks, and great work on the video. Keep it up. :)

Makes me want to get out my 2 CYCLE mower and run it - for NO REASON - in the WINTER.
I'll be sure to give off EXTRA CARBONS this summer, with my RACING tractor. It doesn't even have a mower deck on it, and the ENGINE is BIG.
Look out polar bears!

we've actually made a lot of videos about different subjects, not just reel mowers, FYI
if you want to talk more about what you consider to be the real problem(s) please feel free. We may even agree.
I looked at your Youtube profile and liked the video you posted from Zachary Ford - talented guy.
