people need to mention if it has video settings!!!! i want to upgrade to a digital SLR because my camcorder has lost a lot of quality and value, and i dont want to mess around with tapes from vx's or something.
i reccomend getting this camera over the d60/d40 if you think you know a wee bit more then the beginner photographer then the sony will give you everything you need simply, and whats also great about it is when some one takes a look at your cam and has no clue what all the numbers are, but if your a bit young and just started i highly reccomend geting a d60 because that thing gives loads of description on screen. i have both and prefer the sony so much more over the Nikon's
The Zeiss 3,5-4,5/16-80 , for example, will take the A200 to whole new level where the camera is more than capable of producing some award winning photographs.
There are some fantastic offers available for the A200 right now. An A200 body only and decent second hand lens would be a good route to owning a serious bit of kit. This combination will greater outclass the more popular Nikon D40 / D60.
I own an A200, A700 and the have access to the A900 for more important occasions.
What really holds this camera back is the standard kit lens (18-70 & 75-300 Sony lens) which although delivers very good images does not compare to the results achieved through using a better quality lens.
i will buy a200. at first i thought of buying d60 but then took the chance to do a meticulous research comparing these 2 cameras and made my mind.d60 completely sucks...only d80 can compare to sony a200.
Very nice video and understanding. On my website I have online texting for free to use. Also I have text growth blog talks about mobile phones. Just go to my profile.
urm well the d60 and A200 are preyyet much the same camera its just a price thing the a200 is cheaper than the d60.. it really depends on how much money you have :)
cant believe people do thumbs down on your post, because it is the pure truth, people are so stupid that they think just because it is a nikon it is better. But its NOT, a200 is better in every way...lens/ FPS/ AF points/ Size-more solid/....only from D80 and up you get true Nikon quality.
After some research yes the Nikon D40 and D60 lacked some functions that the Sony A200 does offer. Some very usefull functions actually.
The Sony A200 simply offers a more full package for a very good price! And yes the A200 is a beginner DSLR. Nothing wrong with that you always can go up to the A700 or A900!
Although Sony don`t yet have the pedigree of either Nikon or Olympus they are the world leaders in image manipulation, digital processing, product design and coupled with their relationship with Karl Zeiss you are looking at a formidable combination. Sony also have the desire and motivation to secure the number one slot which is why the Alpha range is so keenly priced. A more technical analysis points heavily towards buying any of their Sony Alpha Camera`s.
You know it has to be CRAP if it's $700 with LENS. Most good lenses cost at least $700 or more. If you can get the lens, camera, and accessories for that price, it's JUNK.
what a twat its an slr thats why its the sony a200 dslr !!!!!!

The A200 is a very underrated camera.

The A200 is a very good base camera indeed, it makes very nice decent quality pictures. The kitlens though is rather worthless.
Putting even an old minolta [metal body] objective on the A200 makes it much more enjoyable. The 18-70 kitlens just is to limited.
I resorted to get my hands on the Minolta 28-85, indeed a 20 year old kitlens. But it works! And the image quality is better.
Still hope one day to have that Zeis objective..damn to expensive :!

it is for beginners. sony dslrs range from the a200 for beginners to the a900 for the pros.

last but not least, d60 will have to do 4-5 re-charges before the sony battery is empty.

I think I'd prefer the fn button of the a200 instead of the fn dial on my a100.
JazzMasta 3 years ago
Hmm, I personally prefer having a wide range of buttons like the Nikon D200/D300 but we'll see how it's gonna perform.
ZahnfeeHarry 4 years ago
Very nice, but no reason to trade in my alpha 100 just yet and I actually like the a-100's dual dials for fast adjustments =)!
swedeinmexico 4 years ago
Yeah, i agree with that, was there any real need to simplify the a100? I mean, That's my first DSLR and i picked it up pretty quickly
