@4406chally I realise you made that comment a year ago ( nice car btw ) but what you're saying is that if I slam a twin-screw on my Plymouth....that's considered "cheater" stuff? I mean, it's a street car with a big block mopar 400 but I don't want a radical cam sound and I don't want a roots-type and dual quads poking out of my hood...it's supposed to be a sleeper lol
@DeAdiSSu3 No if you read again, I got a question if my car had forced induction, and I answered no thats cheating. It's not allowed in my class and on my car.
So please go ahead and mount what you like on your car, I don't care.
@4406chally Oh, my fault man. Forgive my ignorance, I spoke without reading into the whole conversation. Thank you as well, my build shouldn't take too much longer, already rebuilding the heads/block and the crank/pistons/rods are in good shape so all I need is a cam and lifters....thanks again, your car is sick and i'd love to compete in the super-stock class with a different car someday.
Hey man, any idea what year this vid was from? My guess would be some where between 78 - 82? It looks to be the same shot, only from the rear when it was on the cover of the Direct Connection catalog.
In this vid and esspecially ont he catalog, you can see it launch on ONE rear tire in the air.... T O R Q U E ! ! ! !
The car left USA before the 1982 season and was raced in England from 1982-85 by Sylvia Hauser.
Then it came to Sweden and Joran Persaker raced it from 1985 to 1996 in SS/AM. I bought it from him in 1997 and are still driving it to day, I race it in SS/FA as it should.
Oop, I should clarify. I didn't mean the torsion bars had anything to do with twisting the frame or keeping it from doing so. I should have said that the stock torsion bars would likely break after comming down from the wheely. I never broke one on my Challenger (not enough beans to do a wheelie) but my friends Charger broke a bar just sitting there at the drive in. It sounded like a bomb going off. The people close to it all nearly crapped their knickers.
got torque?

Hello model ;-)
I think it says SUPER Stock, you know free intake and camshaft, the rest is "stock" so to speak.
4406chally 2 years ago
so stock should not be in name

I assume you don't know what NHRA is, or that my car and the class it goes in are from the early 1970 ths.
To bad if you don't like it.
4406chally 2 years ago
national hot rod association, i know, but they should give proper names, so, you mean this car has no forced induction like suprachearger or turbo?
INeedToLiveLonger 2 years ago
No it has none of the "cheater" things, only the original holley 2 port carbs.
Yes it has 3 holley 2 port carbs as i sixpack.
I have built this engine and transmission my self and the dana 60 also.
I'm verry proud of this with no help from anyone.
My new engine has had more input and help from USA and the latest SS tech.
So it will be 80-100 hp more and will cost 65% more then this setup.
take care.

@DeAdiSSu3 No problems :-)
Super Stock is not for the average guy, it's so expensive it makes me sick.
To be competitive and run .8-1 sec under will cost an arm and a leg.
I would not go in to this class again now when I know the facts.
It's a bit cheaper to run Stock.
Good luck with your build.

I wonder how they beef up the front ends on those Chargers and Challengers? The stock torsion bars would break.
mrgears 2 years ago
It has slant 6 bars on it, the bars is not the problem.

That was some seriously vicious torque-twist.
MXtreme89 2 years ago
It behaves alot better now, but still the front wheel wobble and it is faster.
4406chally 2 years ago
Regardless, that's an awesome amount of power.
I hope to one day do that with mine!
MXtreme89 2 years ago
pause it at 0:02... thats mass quantitys of torque. mopar or no car.

Remember that this was the most expesive cars to be built for this class during the 70'ths.
Ma MoPar did not save a dime on this car,
If I tell you whats done I have to kill you :-) Just kidding

That is the most evil looking car from the back end. Challengers rule baby!

That's Paul Rossi's old SS/FA car. I remember seeing a pic of it in the old Direct Connection catalog back in the day.
