  • LOL. 0:37... All praise RUSH!

  • Watching those Brazilians get off is the highlight. Enthusiastic is an understatement =)

  • Cool I just wished the audio wouldn't so like its been compressed about 20 times! lol

But even their music sounds still badass

  • yeah right? i was wondering why it sounds so fuzzy

  • Its funny too, Geddy's Voice still sounds perfect!

  • Those Brasilian kids look so happy!

  • What I've always appreciated about Rush is how CRUSHINGLY HEAVY they can sound, while at the same time have deeply spiritual and sensitive elements somehow woven in to the fabric of their music -- that kind of combination is a very, very rare talent.

  • The Prozac had a lot to do with the bad crowds... plus a loss of media interest in instrumental music, maybe.

  • This audience puts americas to shame. unbelieveable. I think grung rock and crystal meth killed our crowds.

  • I swear that guy at :18 and :35 has been in every rio concert video I've seen. He was in the Maiden video too

  • Haa, the guy at 0:18

    Thats one rockin' crowd!

  • haha. you will love rush. i have seen them 5 times.

    they are amazing

  • welcome to the world of Rush

  • I live only 45 mins from rush. They are in my home town of toronto. I seen them live when I was in the states! One of the best canadian bands out there! They make my country proud! I love brasil too.

  • A qualidade da bateria não é das melhores, mas eles me impressionam a cada dia

  • This crowd rocks....much love from AMERICA!

  • May be petty but please correct the spelling on this video...it is NOT Tom Sayer!!! It is TOM SAWYER!!!

  • agree

  • Rio best place EVER (i'm from Rio :D) We love everything that u guys like too, we're human, we listen to rock n' roll

  • BRAZIL LOVES RUSH / RUSH LOVES BRASIL

  • not as much iron maiden does

  • rush is the best ever.. its not the crowd of rio.. this scene is the same at every rush concert.. not taking anything away from the crowd.. they were insane.. but its more rush than anything.. awesome awesome band

  • GODS!!!!!! Fucking GODS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Damn the Brazilians love Rush...who knew. React to Page andplant the same.

  • You should see the performance of YYZ, the crowd was singing to an instrumental! Rio fucking has the best crowds

  • yah this song and Rush are fuckin bad ass

  • this is one of the greatest songs ever written

  • Rush is freakin' badass! :D

  • best crowd of the world...

  • look at the crowd freakin out,lol id do the same.

  • jesus check out the HUGE drum set!

  • Come in back to BRazil

  • fabuloso.. e a galera cantando junto....

  • I love how all the Brazillians go nuts when they start the song.

    Great concert, great band. :]

  • É impressionante, ver estes caras mandando bem à vera, sem perder o pique do tom...sawyer - o batera é foda!

  • haha sayer.

  • que bobagem, o cara só deixou de digitar o 'w'...- mas, se v. observar, lá em cima , no canto direito está escrito : " tom sawyer live in rio"

  • are those washing machines in the background???

  • sure are

  • They had rush tshirts in them and as the evening went on the band thru them into the crowd.

  • the washing machines are there cos geddy doesn't use amps he runs his bass rig thru the P.A. so he fills his side of the stage with anything he likes washing machines, fridges, rotisserie chicken oven anything really...........

  • Brazillians loves "Tom Sawyer". It's magic.

  • sawyer not sayer dumbass

  • The sound quality is sub-par, but this version captures the exuberant energy of listener involvement with a rock classic. Gotta love an entire audience doing back-up vocals!

  • while we're talking about progrock, i just wanna say one word: YES

  • man did I really write all this? sorry . . .

  • The3 only other band I know of that compares to Rush as far as musicianship goes, is Queen. Mabye Led Zeppelin, too, just because JPJ is a badass.

  • Jimmy Page? John Bonham? Robert Plant?

  • all of them are great musicians at their particualar instruments, and otherwise. I'm talking cream of the crop of music in general.

  • What's really cool is that all these kids are mostly Brazilian and speak Portugese, but they know all the English lyrics. And I bet you dollars to donuts that alot of them not only know the lyrics, but they also understand what the lyrics mean! That's the power of music! RUSH ROCKS!

  • The kid at :33 with his fists over his eyes in astonishment is what Rush's music is all about: " . . The fascination, the real relation, the underlying theme . . ."

  • laundry+rush =awesome lol

  • i prefer the who, i dont even like more than 5 songs by rush, but i got to admit they are fuckin brilliant musicians

  • fuck i love rush, best band on earth!!!

  • fuck yeah the greatest band ever

    see ya july 12

  • that is one huge ass drum set i love rushh fuck yea

  • Not only is it a huge drum set, He uses EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF IT (Nothing is for show) And he can play very piece of it super well!

  • Furthermore, You will NEVER, EVER SEE A WASHER and DRYER DOING LAUNDRY at a DT Concert!!!!

  • Only a great band can move masses of people, rush is because instead of playing a distorcioned ''e'' they make a progressive three instrument scale wich is much more dificult and the mix between the changes of neil and the stops wow it's just amazing, hey and another thing is they don't talk 'bout sex they are as pink floyd their songs are up into a unique sense of creativity.

    hug from argentina

  • Hi rocketlad123

It was in Maracana, Rio de Janeiro, November 2002.. One of the biggest Rush audience, if not the biggest ever.. I was there down in front of Alex.. Awsome show ever

  • Hi rocketlad123

It was in Maracana, Rio de Janeiro, November 2002.. One of the biggest Rush

  • what year was this ?

  • this song is kick ass

  • GOING TO THEIR WINNIPEG SHOW!!! MAY 24th - MTS CENTRE!!! FUCK YEAH

  • Does anybody know what type of amp heads and cabinets alex uses? Please let me know

  • hughes and kettner

    switchblade series or x series

  • who ever likes rush out there there touring in 2008

  • geddy sings signature lead vocals, is a phenomenal bassist AND plays a nasty keyboard riff all in one song. neil is arguably the best drummer on planet earth and oh yeah, alex ain't exactly a potted plant on guitar....greatest band ever????? right up there with the best Hall of Fame!!!!

  • dudester you should go watch dream theater octavarium live. not anything against rush but you will see vocals bass guitar and keyboards much better then rush

  • No he won't... If you were a musician like me you would understand...

not even Portnoy can play Rush... nor can Vai, nor Dave LaRue, Seehan, Squire or anyone else... they are above the best...

    Rush > God

  • i understand your point but learn how to spell sheehan right!

  • I forgot the H, it happens... i just wish we could edit the posts...

    bah... thanks for understanding

  • dude...u cant compare bands from diff decades, its completly diff styles and skills. btw i love both bands rush and DT and main influence of DT was RUSH.

  • hero: You. have. no. clue. D.T. are technically proficient, but their songs are flat, lifeless deth-metal re-hashings U hear from about 1,245 bands. Rush is WAY more creative, inspiring, original, & they're still technically better than most. Other bands have nowhere near their soul & heart and ability 2 move people. Look @ the kid in the audience at :33-:34, far left. He's in SEVENTH HEAVEN, as r just about everyone there. Rush has that special something very few bands can attain.

  • First, both Rush and DT are incredible, but,

"flat, lifeless death metal"? It's apparent to me that you've never heard "The Spirit Carries On", "Goodnight Kiss" or "Through Her Eyes". You need to something remotely resembling a clue before you go making statements like the one above.

  • DT's very good, yet there's just this air of formulaic "studiousness" about everything they do. This's also true of wide range of music; classical, some jazz, Broadway. (cont.)

It is no doubt due in part to their training at Berklee, which is not a bad thing, it's just that it is unusual to hear that kind of discipline in the rock realm. Yes, to me their is a flat, well-trodden aspect to DT, and James Labrie is clearly a Geoff Tate (Queensryche) wannabe, but not as good of a singer as Tate.

  • & please,"clue" me in on where 2 go 2 hear DT's drummer play anything that approaches Neil Peart's performances. re: virtuoisity-- Tony Levin, bassist (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) is a top-of-the-list, mind-blowingly great musician, & when working w/ great songwriters like Gabriel, Levin adds enormously to PG's songs. Levin plays circles around most great bassists, But I have to say, left on his own his other work sounds a bit like excursions into self-indulgent virtuosity.

  • There's not much depth to Levin's compostions; the whole point is to hear Levin's amazing bass figures. There's nothing wrong with this at all. I just think that it's best when musicians can combine outstanding musicianship with profundity on a lyrical, creative, heart level. DT has a heart, but perhaps it could be that a few acts go a bit deeper, as obviously Rush abd Peter Gabriel have.

  • Sorry 4 writing a book, but while I like some rock, I also like Loreena McKennitt, Enya, and a friend of Gabriel's named Kate Bush. Now if you want to hear some intensely moving music, those three ladies are like, Wow! Of course theirs is a totally different approach to music, and decidedly a very "feminine" approach at that. But "us guy musicians" could stand to absorb & maybe understand more of Enya's, Kate's and Loreena's styles, although most of us r simply not built to make music that way.

  • Stop posting.

  • What's the matter? Can't process that many words? Where is it written that youtube is a bastion for ADD-types who freak over posts longer than one or two poorly constructed sentences?

  • Oh I can process the words, it's just when someone takes that amount of time to write out a novel on the youtube comment section of a single video, and when all of the comments are replies to ones that you posted it gets me wondering if you actually have bigger prioreties. (spelling)

  • There's no rule which states that youtube comments must be limited to one or two poorly constructed sentences. There's no rule that says that u can't extend your comments beyond 1 post. Just because most people have poor writing/spelling skills & short attention span doesn't mean that the rest of us should dumb ourselves down to the average level. I'm sure a lot of people are put off by Rush's lyrical content because it's not about sex, crime, revenge, etc. but actually requires some thought.

  • And it's rather ironic that I'm responding to your complaints on length of comments on a Rush concert post, don't you think? Hmm? Get it? If you don't then watch the clip of Rush interviewed on the Steven Colbert Report.

  • Well there are some serious bands with good songs, such as Boston and Emerson lake and Palmer.

  • Your Right about the kid...everyone is like thanking God that theyre playing this song

  • Hero, and another thing: Yeah you can find plenty of musicians who can play more notes per second, but that doesn't mean they can move someone the way Rush or Peter Gabriel or Enya or Loreena McKennitt or Baaba Maal or Kate Bush can.

  • You're seriously trying to say this piece of shit band's musicians can compare to geddy, alex, and neil? You're fuckin clueless man, Neil Peart has got to be a top 3 drummer of all time, Geddy Lee's in the top 2 bassists, and Alex Lifeson is probably in the top 10 guitarists. Find me another band who can match that, I dare you.

  • I like Rush alot more than DT, buy i hafta say

technically- not songwriting wise- dream theater is better

  • nickarpan. your wrong. just straight up. all of the people for rush are like freakin over 50 and they still play 4 hour long concerts without missing single beats. neil peart is the most efficient drummer their is. period. geddy lee... freakin awesome. alex is really really good but doesn't really have the outstanding ability that other guitarists have, but he is flawless at what he plays. this band rocks my socks, bigtime.

  • I like Rush more than DT, but those guys are just ridicuous. Technique wise is all im saying. Geddy plays more melodic than John Myung, but Myung can blow him out of the water with speed and precision. John Petrucci is like Alex; accomplished in all areas, only he can take it so much further (IE Sweep Picking). Don't believe me- watch the Rock Discipline DVD. Peart is better than Portnoy, ill give u that. Jordan Rudess is also a much better keyboardist- keep in mind im only talking technically

  • zeppelin?

    sabbath?

    boston?

there r alot of bands that i culd list but im not gunna cuz i dont got that kinda time....lol

  • As a huge dream theater fan i'd say...well your still horribly wrong about all of that. Don't compare bands just don't. If it wasn't for rush we wouldn't really have the dream theater we know and love. Thats sort of like saying that mozart is better that bach, the argument is a mute point when your talking about skills of this level.

  • to me it would be

    Rush = God

why..cuz u cant really put anyone higher than God right? lets think of Rush as a gift from God can we?

  • i am also a big Yes fan and kept hearing about Dream Theater, in fact, i was informed that they were the only band worthy enough of sharing the bill with Yes. so i couldn't wait to see their live show.....no offense to DT fans, but i felt like i was watching watered down, journey-laden queensryche. No comparison to Rush or Yes at all, not even close. and the beauty of geddy is he plays bass, keyboards AND vocals all at once....amazing!!!

  • okay, now all you DT fans are going to attack me....sorry, just was way underwhelmed.

  • No one should attack you. DT wasn't to your taste. They're not for everyone. I happen to love both DT and Rush. Yes was always difficult for me to get into. I like a few of the songs and there's no denying their musicianship, but I need something with a little more edge. Rush and DT provide that edge for me.

  • well actually no he plays eihter keyboards adn vocals or bass and vocals which kinda leaves things empty. try a studio recording of dt you cant have a short attention span though.

  • okay, so how do you get rid of excess comments??? damn dream theater karma! LOL

  • Hero, Dream Theater started off as a Yes and RUSH cover band. Just look at videos of Mike P. imitating Neil Peart. Also, you might want to compare record sales to date and total albums produced. That might humble you a little.

  • Geddy Lee is 54 years old and

    Neil Peart is 55

  • boy does geddy have a voice or what?

  • One of the most talented bands in history...awesome

  • um dos melhores show que eu vi na vida.

  • their canadian idiot!

  • in the words of carlos mencia....DEEEE DE DEEEEE!! i love ppl on you tube who have no idea WTF they are talking about

  • they live in Toronto, u dipshit, YYZ is the code for Pearson international airport hmm were's that? TORONTO!!

  • yea i got proof they live in toronto: geddy lee ate at my dads restaurant :D

  • your an idiot

  • Leave it to the Brazilians to go crazy like it's soccer!! YAH!!

  • i like how in rio theres a whole bunch of people who are younger and older. when rush plays here, its a bunch of 50 year old men playing air drums.

You'd only find like 250+ people under 30.

  • im one of those 250 ppl :)

  • duas coisas incomparaveis o rush e esse povo carioca q apavora ,é animal, é absoluto, grilo paraty uiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • Not a bad video... wish i could go to a rio rush concert...

  • what you say about his company is WHAT you say about society!!!

    aya!!!

  • I can't hear his voice =/

  • There's a difference between 'gain' and volume...The freakin' gain is all the way up. I reiterate my opinion that they were short some equipment. I think they hired an engineer twenty years ago and never brought another one in. Besides, for a band such as this one they'd have to consult with some of their producers, ya know? Ya, the drums are totally vanished -puf!

  • rush rocks!!!!

  • yep. they're designed to be different from the normal ones sold.

i still have my counterparts one from the sna tour i went to. :D

  • washing machines are there cause geddy started using straight to SB amps, so he needs to fill the space.

he chose washing machines. i love gary :D

  • Call him by his preferred name ;) Geddy.

  • NO.

  • anyone who doesn't know this song should be shot, because it's the household rush song.

  • i would have been shot then had it not been for listening to this tune on a mixed martial arts highlight reel (sighs of relief)

  • yea they put rush tshirts in the washing machines and then they throw em out into the crowd

  • anyoe know y they have washer machines?? lol

  • it's geddy's bass amp

  • A washing machine is a "counterpart" to a dryer. I have a counterparts shirt that has a nut and bolt.

  • Horrible editing on the 'rio' vid, they runied a good thing, its like trying to watch a fucking MTV video, not a concert. Rush were assholes for allowing it to be edited this way.

  • I was there!

  • yeah all you guys who are talkin gabout demise arent really rush fans then i think theyre still great

  • Not any more!

  • Perfeito? Provavelmente...pena que eu perdi o show.

  • I used to hold the highest reguard for this band, but they just lost something. They now remind me of a Rush tribute band, who gets close to the days of excellence gone by, but.....just ain't happenin'! All you younger fans would have had to see them 25 years ago. the Moving Pictures tour, and back, were ON FIRE!

  • does anyone else ever get the impression that alex lifeson takes himself too seriously? i know hes the shit, but he seems like overexaggerate every one of his parts, where as neil sits back in his corner, and geddy just kinda plays his music.

  • I think Neil takes himself way too seriously, and since the horrible incident w/ his huge loss, he seems to just go thru the motions. I feel for him a LOT!, but c'mon bro, it's showtime!! Geddy's voice is only carried by memory of how it once sounded. Pitchy, crackly, unstable. I can't even deal w/ it anymore! I've seen the great demise of a once SLAMMIN" band!

  • Demise my ass! They are still terrific and you are a fucking idiot.

  • ..and you are probably a 20 year old talking out his @#$ who wasn't even born when I would go see Rush in concert many times. I know where there's fire, and I know when it's become burning embers. I was THEE #1 Rush fan, along w/ my buds. We ALL agree w/ what is true. While I still think there a good band (LIVE), their new material SUCKS, and they don't even come close to who they were! Listen to Hemispheres, or Farewell.., NO COMPARISON! Like apples and crap!

  • Whatever man. I'm 39 btw and have seen Rush over a dozen times. I don't think they're new material is crap (I loved Vapor Trials and the new album is wonderful) and they're live shows are still excellent. Fine, fret about the good-ole-days if you want, I'll be enjoying the show on June 27th in Mansfield Mass!!

  • Cool for you. Enjoy!

  • they got ten more years...im glad i wont be seeing you at any shows.

  • You pay, I'll go!

  • tom sawyer th ebest song for the best band in the world. my favorite rush song. go RUSH!!! i cant wait to see these dudes in september 8th.

  • I hope it's like this on July 6th!

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, YEAH!

  • next to Live's Chad Gracey Pert greatest drummer ever

  • it does not get that much better

  • I've been a neil fan forever, but as years go by, I have realized that he is not even close to MANY drummers out there! He is very one dimentional, can't swing to save his life, not great at jazz, and doesen't even play his own stuff w/ half the intensity he did on the stuff from '75 thru '81. He really just bugs the crap outta me, now. Watch Dave weckl. UN-REAL!

  • Rush faz parte da minha vida desde os 16....tenho 46 .

  • Saw them live on this tour at Staples Center in LA.. Worst seats ever, best show ever.

  • what an awesome way to open an awesome show

  • this is special cause it was the first time they played there..and people had sighns reading..rush is real they are not a dream!! crying there eyes out!! they love rush!! rush said on stage if we knew it was gonna be like this we'd been here a while ago!!

  • great the way the audience was singing along. Rush is an awesome band and all that sound with only three people!

  • rush are the best band ever

    dont monkey around

  • POrra isso ai.. é stiloo e iradooo!!!

    POhha naum tem iqual....

    mito Foddda!

  • Rush é muito bom!!!

  • mierda!...

rush lo mejor del universo 4ever!

  • great song, great band!!!!

  • Awesome! Rush is f**** great !

  • Gotta love the croud's backing vocals.

  • I first heard Rush in the early 80s and have loved their music ever since, Tom Sawyer is THE perfect Rush song!

  • f*ckin awesome!!!

    thanks dude!!!

rush rulz, best prog band ever!!
