just a tip on the trbjp, you can cut that hiss/buzz by shielding all of the cavities. i have had one for about 11 years now, no hiss. at one time i really wanted a smith, but after just about every other bass player in my region has tried and/or succeeded at getting a smith, i value individuality. not to mention no one has ever seen a trbjp looking like mine. i can't tell you the difference though. its one of a kind. you'll have to wait and see it for yourself.
I got say the comparison is terrible..There are many factors involved that you didnt cover. To begin with the playing is a big contributor in determining sound.Which In my opinion was not very fluent, hence the terrible sound. It's just a bunch of clank.Next time you A/B a product, make it more organized. You need a script or something to follow. It's too disorganized! Also, get a better soundcard so we can appreciate your review.I mean you're after all reviewing sound...
@Instantfunk1978 you know what? you are right i am going to redo this video but with my ken smith BSR6EG. the video was disorganized and way too long. Thanks for reminding me.
I think you have a ground problem. I have the same bass and have never had a problem with the noise that your getting. The tell is when you went into the scooped position. Check the electronics to see if the controls on the board are still in factory position.
The TRB6 JP has better sound (the JP II it's even better), an amazing jaco growl (back pickup) and supreme playability comparing with the Ken Smith, but they have a 2000+ difference in price. So with the same money of the Ken Smith you can buy the Yamaha and a Fender American deluxe Jazz Bass.
First buy new strings and baterry on the ken smith and Its going to sound much but way better then the yamaha bro. Im not saying that yamaha not sound good but its obviuos that your bass has new strings and battery and also your yamaha is not nethru like you say is a bolt-on very different when you that tray again and you going to see that ken smith is bettet man GBU
@TanburaS there has to be something with the amp......i usually have my highs set all the way up and i never had no noise....they are humcancelings pick ups....
@manuel118215 HERMANO GRACIAS POR TOMARTE EL TIEMPO Y SUBIR ESTOS VIDEOS, TE SUGIERO LA PROXIMA COMPARACION O VIDEO DE ESTE TIPO QUE SUBAS LO HAGAS CON EL SONIDO DIRECTO A LA PC O MAC QUE TENGAS PUES NO SE APRECIA MUY BIEN EL SONIDO DE CADA BASS.

@IrateGroove DE ACUERDO CONTIGO BROTHER, EL COLOR, BRILLANTES , POTENCIA Y CALIDEZ DE UN SONIDO DE BASS VA A VARIAR POR CAUSA D MUCHOS FACTORES ...LAS CUERDAS, EL AMPLIFICADOR, TIPOS D PASTILLAS, EL CABLE, LA ECUALIZACION, Y POR SUPUESTO EL EJECUTANTE, EL KEN ES UN BAJO DE MUCHO PRESTIGIO EL YAMAHA D MUCHA PROPAGANDA PERO X EJEMPLO CON UN MUSIC MAN PUEDO LOGRAR GRAN SIMILITUD ENEL SONIDO A ESTOS DOS MONSTRUOS, ASI Q LA PREFERENCIA X ESTOS ES DIRECTAMENTE PROPORCIONAL AL GUSTO D CADA JUGADOR!!!
Both basses have nice things to offer and depending on your playing technique and type of music you play will dictate whic one to buy HOWEVER...being Ken Smith himself is such a pompous ass and self absorbed prick I wouldnt give my money up to quickly to have one again. In reality he could care less about you or if he ever sells another bass. The old fart is not a customer orientated businessman. I ought to know from dealing with his attitude on several ocasions.
Don't listen to people who say bad shit about Ken. I have found him to be not only very accommodating for his customers but also a very cool cat. He doesn't have a lot of patients for self absorbed jackasses who can't play but, any serious player is always worth his time. I had a smith for a few years that I loved and I had to sell. Ken always talked to me on the phone about his bass and he would spend another 15 or 20 minutes just bullshitting about music and players in general.
@spectorman09 That's not the first time I've heard someone say that ! Wow I really hate that but he still makes an excellent product, he just needs to realize that it is the customer that afford him the ability to be that pompous ass ! REALLY !
@spectorman09 actually i got the best service i ever got from him, i needed a new jack input and he sent the part from usa ro israel really quick.
plus he answer REALLY fast and also talked to me himself, not some other worker.
im sure you got him on a bad day, he is a great gut and his basses are amazing! i have a bsr 5 string bass (black tiger) made in 2003 and i love it more then anything. no other bass i played compared to it.
Ken Smith and the Yamaha TRB are like two wonderful women ,it's hard to choose one or the other , if I was a play boy I'll keep both ,but if I have only one option I'll take the Ken Smith !
@Fili2009able Yes how right you are. I found the Smith to be much easier to play (narrower neck) but the Yamaha has a more pronounce or more powerful punch which is a must for latin music
@manuel118215 yes. I had an issue similar to that a few yrs ago where the jack became loose. You can just open the back and get to it. Also you know that the "sound cards" are adjustable right. you can increase the boost, vol etc of the pick ups
OMG Ken Smith!!! i'm drooling... lol

The Smith has a nicer slap tone but the Yamaha sounds allot ballsier as a whole bass.
