The thing I don't like about this is any video site (YouTube, Google, etc) should, in theory, be protected under the Safe Harbor Act. They argued that exact thing against Viacom. So what's happening? The government is trying to revoke the Safe Harbor Act now. (That'll take net neutrality out in the process, but that's off topic.) I don't like Viacom very much at all right now. They sued google for hosting copyrighted material. A judge ruled in Viacom's favor and ordered google to give viacom -all- their data.

Every video watched, for how long, play counts, and global IP addresses for every video. Essentially, viacom would have known exactly who watched what videos, where that person lives, and for how long.

Obviously a privacy concern.

I totally understand viacom's point. It's copyrighted material, and people who uploaded them should not have been able to. However, going after google wasn't the right plan; google claims no responsibility for what is uploaded. The users need to be punished.

The whole reason I jumped on this was the privacy issue. Viacom doesn't need to know who/where watched the videos for their lawsuit, just the play counts. This was rectified (so they say).

U R not insane. If you have some free time, u should check out Anthea Callen's (Visual Culture, Nottingham University) paper called "Ideal Masculinites." It dissects the assertion that visual media prescribes ideal gender types. Pretty much everything we know about being male or female, regardless of our sex, is ultimately derived from all forms of visual media. This argument can also be applied to VM's prescription for social norms, roles, etc.

Well, I do believe he knows something about the processes involved in evolution, and I don't think he's an absolute MORON, however I do think that his objections to Christianity are pretty scatterbrained and tend to miss the point of the whole religious debate, and are mostly based on some personal bias against Christians that he has.
