@BeautifulTrainwyreck.......God is gracious and loves you when you need it....man will fail you but our precious Lord is always there...call on him instead...you'll never regret it....
@NYkiNY Certain music shouldn't have a like or dislike option. This is true brilliance. If people can't appreciate this, I truly question their taste.
I'm making my kids listen to this music because if you want them to be well rounded, some of the music todays is just not making the cut. Most of it sounds the same and they are missing out on musicianship.
I was introduced 2 this song by someone who "loved me for who I already was"..and trying 2 be the superwoman Im not..I hurt him and he disappeared this winter..left me feeling like "When the winter came you went further south..Parting from love's nest, leaving me in doubt..Where are you when I need you, like right now?" ..I miss u AKB..luv TDJ..
one of the few true musical geniuses in the last 50 years. this was "mainstream" music when it came out. ha! what do we have now? *shiver* i truly dont know whether to laugh or cry. oh, and he was... 22!!!!!!
Stevie is such an eternal musical genius. It's a shame that we have to wave goodbye to this kind of music, these new artists nowadays won't ever come close...it's a real shame
I'm a man...I don't need a Superwoman, a subordinate woman, a competitive woman, etc. etc. etc. I need a woman who loves me for me (like Heavy D said.) If you were attracted to me for the conversation and way I was when you met me, then that's it!...Don't try to change me and don't put expectations on me.
timeless expression of mans best friend obsession with societies perception. Ladies, fall back and let us real men show how to be super to us and then see what happens. Eye have my superwoman and she has been by my side for 30 years
Back in the 60's and 70's musicians put a lot of thought into making a record. As a kid growing up, we would wait months sometimes years for our favorite artists to come out with a new record. It usually was about what was going on around us and what was going on in the artist's life. Lyrics were short stories, poems. When I purchased this album I also purchased a new Kenwood stereo with Advent speakers. Sounded like Stevie was in my room with me. I must have played this album million times!
Masterpiece is an understatement for this song.. the man brings you thru music that u can visualize and the crazy thing is ...he cant see.. how real is that??
As long as I've been alive, it's this man's music that has been the soundtrack to my life...theres nothing like listening to the words of a stevie wonder song...his music always speaks to my spirit....love you stevie
simply cannot adequately express in mere words the impact this brother has made not only from a music perspective, but i truly believe somehow....in some way we as people are all that much better through witnessing the miracle, the artistry, the sincerity and the beauty that is.........Steveland Judkins Morris! Stevie you are simply the GREATEST!!!
This song hits me soooo hard. I swear, I tried to be Superwoman and it soon blew back in my face and I had to realize everything I needed was right w/ me from the start and in the process of me trying to "do me" and be Superwoman or better yet, be someone I'm not or thought I wanted to be. I hurt the one who really loved me and love me for who I already was, just as Stevie stated, "I just wanted to love her for who she is." But all and all I learned my lesson! :)
@STARSHIPBLU3 Part of maturing is being able to face yourself and admit you were wrong. From your comments, you seem to have accepted your part in your relationship and are ready to move forward...50/50. May true love find you in the future! Fortunately, God gives us many opportunities. I pray you come to a full bloom next spring. @topdogbabyboomer.
@STARSHIPBLU3 - Wow! So Powerful and True! ... My life very much relates and now thats its 2012. I am very well at peace with the Superwoman naturally within! The next man will be blessed because I learned a long hard lesson to Simply Just Be Me!
@mthnyfan I know this is an old comment, but I just wanted to say I think Queens is a refuge for the tragically hip...Everyone I've met from Queens were the coolest folk on Earth! Glad to have met you, sir!
I've known and listened to this song thousands of times in the 39 yrs since it was released. I've owned it as an LP, 8 track, cassette and CD. I've always been moved by it's powerful lyrics and soothed by the melodic sounds of it's arrangement. It still brings tears to my eyes as it melts my heart. I've never understood why this song evokes such strong and sentimental emotions within me. Only a genuis can do that to someone. I thank God for giving us Steveland Morris, aka Stevie Wonder.
I love this sond SOOO much. Every word and the melody reminds me of the relationship I have with my father. He thinks I don't know at all but in reality I'm his spilting imagne. But in the end he left me when I needed him the most (conquencedently in the winter)...I know evently he will come back and say he has changed but all I will be able to think about is the "reflection of love past". Stevie must have written this song for me 30 years ago for me
Brilliant after all these years, back then fans didn't trip on charts and sales. "Private Owned Radio" played what they liked, sometimes the entire album or song in a double play, no commercials and and sponsors to worry about. if they was feeling that. Damn I miss those days. Stevie Wonder you are loved.
Whatever forum I go to, there is always someone who needs to capitilise random words, which takes away from whatever they want to say. A bit like upspeak, where the listner wants to say "what is the question?"
@radtec313 Not the most tasteful remark but funny none the least. Thanks I needed a laugh. I agree. I love Stevie also. I've loved his music since I was a child.
Why does race rear it's ugly head in music which is universal. You dig an artist because when you listen to him or her they relate to your soul. That's it!!! Their personal problems are the human side of them. Let it go and enjoy!!!
I absolutely love Superwoman. Its one of Stevie's songs that switches the mood somewhere near the end, like I beleive, and ordinairy pain. The synths in this song are f****** amazing!
@anw510 Isn't that crazy. How do you dislike this? I don't like Freddie Jackson but you will never see me typing in his name, play the record, and tell His fans that I dislike his songs, that's none of my business. WOW
@anw510 Those 10 ppl are brain dead loons who have no musical taste. This song along with so many other Stevie Wonder classics are just timeless............Am I right or what?
Read what's in front of you, El senor bunko. the quote that I was agreeing with did not include anything about racism. Me and Chuck agree, he didn't mean a damn thing except more cash for the colonel. And... did you know Elvis? if not, you can't be sure he was not a racist. A musician can cop to the influence, but still be racist.
This was the lp that marked a change in Stevie's career. He showed Berry Gordy that he could not only sing, but he could write and produce himself and others (The Spinners "It's A Shame"). He is a genius.
Like Chuck D sed, "Elvis was a hero to most, but he didn't mean sh** to me". You got it right Annamandabella. Elvis, like the beverly hillbillies, will be FORGOTTEN. How many great artists can keep pumping out, not just good tunes, but continually writing some of the greatest stuff the world has ever known.
@Padabig60 I like me some PE but Chuck D was wrong about Elvis. Elvis didn't have a racist bone in his body. He lived and breathed music, black and white, it mattered not. LEarn about his life before you repeat these goofy things.
STEVIE`S TALENT TO CREATE MUSIC IS MIND BOGLING EVERY SONG HAS DEEP MEANNING, FROM THE 60s TO PRESENT DAY ,HE IS EVERY INCH PURE CLASS CHEERS STEVIE !!!!!
Stevie wonder to me is the greatest artist ever, because he creativity and insight is amazing; he creates songs that you can feel. One of the most impressive things about Stevie besides the grammys is the era in which he did it. He, arguably, accomplished the most in a decade when music was at its best. The string of 6 albums from 1970-1976 was the greatest string of albums in a row; add in the fact that four of the six are individually some of the greatest albums ever.
He is a 25 Grammy Award Winner. 27 + Records & 56 on Top 40 billboard. This man gives me something and to be able to do hat blind. There is nobody like Stevie. I feel each song in my soul.
ive always loved stevie...i was raised on him and now at 33 i embrace the words...when the winter came you were not around...now the summers gone and love cannot be found....where were you when i needed you last winter, my love? I will always love stevie...
jdale explains it pretty well. the way this came through the car radio. stunned, pull over to the side of the road music. creative genius and inspiration given to the world in abundance
100 years from now, the likes of Elvis may be forgotten though Stevie Wonder will remain in a class all his own. He is more than a musician. HE IS MUSIC
elvis was as racist as john wayne. At one performance he noticed a black woman in the audience & spoke into his mike "a black woman can't do nouthin for me". this fan who admired him & paid good money to watch him perform, was publicly insulted based on skin color. there's no differentiating between a musician & a fan.
@craigfromnewcastle WHAT? "he did a lot for black musicians when segregation was common place" like what, pointing out the whites only signs and directing ticket buying black fans to the balconys? He had the power and influence to do anything he could but chose only to steal their style without PUBLICLY acknowledging their influence. This would be similar to saying Richard Wagner did so much for Jewish people since some of his friends and supporters were. When we all know how he really felt.
@craigfromnewcastle Elvis ''did a lot for black musicians''? I don't quite see how that is when the majority of his musical style was a direct copying of black musicians.
@Annamandabella my friend, the likes of Elvis needs to be forgotten because one reason his career shot off to epic proportions is the fact he STOLE lyrics and music from certain BLACK performers(Big Mama Thornton). He was also a racist who said that the only thing that a black man is good for is shining his shoes. So may his fat, pill popping ass burn in hell...
@Annamandabella VERY WELL put my dear. Steveland Morris aka Stevie Wonder is the EMBODIMENT of MUSIC and ALL THINGS LYRICAL...and RYTHYMIC. He is the perfect compliment to our deepest sensibilities because he has shown us time and again...that what he writes and sings and performs...is no less than what we FEEL...and we are blessed to live in a time where we SHARE his presence. Without a doubt.
@nuthinbutclassics thanks bruh. That came from within. On my heart I suppose. I've listened to some beautiful lyrics by this man over the years. Too many to mention. I met him once...in of all places...the bathroom at the Greek Theatre during the L.A. Music Festival in August of 2008. I spoke,"Hey Stevie"...he replied,"Hey Fam" and that was that. I don't believe in hounding folks. He knew I had love for him. He could hear it in my greeting I'm sure.
Not only has he written music for himself but scores of other artists....there will never be another Stevie Wonder...he's one of those rockets in the sky that only come around once in this world....God Bless you Steveland Morris.....ever since I hear you play Fingertips I became a fan...now and always....LUV U Stevie Wonder!
second half of this song really gets me. I will have my moods regarding what music I listen to but stevie wonder will forever be my favorite. Noone comes close in in my opinion. At least for me i guess.
I love Stevie Wonder; he is an unbelievably talented singer, songwriter and musician. I love it when he plays the harmonica. I love this song and all of his songs.
I remember hearing this song on the radio for at least 8 years... It's one of my faves and a few years ago I was shocked to find it only went to #33 in the US and a similar position in Canada. It seems this style of music was QUITE popular in 1972-1973; Stevie also had "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" and Paul McCartney had "My Love"...
Stevie had questions, boy. And straight up with it, too. SUPERWOMAN, where were you when I needed you? Huh? Your mighty quiet, baby. I need answers, Ma.
Everybody's allways mention Beatles'work that i really love also until now,but what Stevie's brought to music is fantastic and gives me the shiver all the time i listen to it like right now !!!!
@BeautifulTrainwyreck.......God is gracious and loves you when you need it....man will fail you but our precious Lord is always there...call on him instead...you'll never regret it....

Padabig60 8 months ago
@Padabig60 I like me some PE but Chuck D was wrong about Elvis. Elvis didn't have a racist bone in his body. He lived and breathed music, black and white, it mattered not. LEarn about his life before you repeat these goofy things.

100 years from now, the likes of Elvis may be forgotten though Stevie Wonder will remain in a class all his own. He is more than a musician. HE IS MUSIC
Annamandabella 9 months ago 68
@Annamandabella
that's not fair, Elvis was bad in his day and he did a lot for black musicians when segregation was common place.
I agree Stevie is beautiful and special though.
craigfromnewcastle 7 months ago
@craigfromnewcastle
elvis was as racist as john wayne.

Annamandabella 7 months ago
@craigfromnewcastle Elvis ''did a lot for black musicians''? I don't quite see how that is when the majority of his musical style was a direct copying of black musicians.
mftds13 7 months ago
