It's ashamed if certain parties are holding on to his live stuff this long after the accident!

it's a shame that an amazing artist like this had to die in his prime. If he were able to release over 10 hit singles before his death, imagine what he could have accomplished if he had not passed away.

Although lacking the punch of the studio version - it would have been better had there been no backing vocals in the chorus, and the softening of the voices in the chorus weakened the chorus' impact - this is still a good performance with good guitar playing. Classic song.
It's nice to see the vid has garnered such a number of views. It's heartening to know that into the millennium the great singer-songwriter is remembered.
Jim's musical partner Maury Muehleisen who is seen in the video with him was also killed in the same crash. Both were extremely talented individuals. They just don't make music like this anymore
hello Jawbreaker ... I'm listening to you about how the other guitarist was Maury.
how little i have known , however my Birth date was September 20 1970 . Thank you for putting that out there ... Jim needed a good guitar player to back him up . and so it was.
The other guitarist in this video was Maury muehleisen. He was also taken in the same plane crash as Jim on September20,1973 in natchitoches la along with 4 other men. They had just played a concert at northwestern state university.maurys guitar, voice and song writing abilities helped Jim quickly rise to the too before his death! They could have easily been introduced as a group. Unfortunately until years later and sometimes even now Maury was not given the just recognition he justly deserved
@MrCantstandliberals He is dead. He died in plane crash on September 21, 1973 at the age of 30. Another great one that left us too soon. IMO music died after the 80's. Too bad he wasn't around for the 90's. We could have used him. RIP Jim Croce. Gone, but never forgotten.

@packingten Why don't you really say what's on your mind? Agree with you that todays music is not a patch on the 60's, 70's & early 80's. There are some gems, but you gotta trawl through a lot of shit to find them. Pity, but you just don't find great folk singers like Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, Nilsson, Hans Poulsen et al anymore!
70's was an amazing underrated era for music...such simple true-pure feelings pouring into the music ....there is no comparison to the so called auto-tuned over the top "artists" today....
I was lucky enough to see two guys live just six months before they were killed . It was an outdoor concert in Balboa Park in San Diego and it was free . Man I miss those good old days
If you are new to Jim Croce, check out Harry Chapin's Taxi on this same page. Story-tellers all.
Music seems to swing back and forth every 20 years. It seems that, with Jack Johnson and others of this ilk (like the slack key guys, @iamwatchingstarwars ) this type of music is returning. It's real and it carries on the true tradition of the traveling minstrels of a few hundred years ago.
Croce did some amazing stuff - brings back some excellent memories with a guy ironically called Jim (Jimmy T.0 (he couldn't get enough of this music - driving in the car and we'd play over and over again - Shar
strange i remember like it was yesterday when i heard the news of his passing i was 9 sitting in my parents station wagon in Rochester,NH listening to AM radio while they were shopping for furniture....very influential not many can pull off what this guy could do.
@norton9411 you said it! James Joseph "Jim" Croce ("crow-chee") January 10, 1943 – September 20, 1973) was an American singer-songwriter. Between 1966 and 1973, Croce released six studio albums and 11 singles. His singles "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "Time in a Bottle" were both number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Inducted into the songwriters' Hall of Fame. Died at age 30!! I'll say he was great.
you know, sometimes i think that people dislike these kind of videos just to be dicks. They don't take the time to put thought into the lyrics, that they might just actually mean something to people. This song reminds me of simpler times when my mother was not in rehab, when we went over to my grandmas house and watched golf on the television, when my cousins were just innocent kids like you and me. Those were great times. So much nostalgia just flooded my system. Dislikers piss me off. good day
I just need to seriously thank my dad for listening to amazing music while I was growing up. If it weren't for him, I would never have known this beautiful artist and others. I mostly grew up with a generation where it's all auto tune and mainstream now and don't get me wrong, I don't mind listening to 'em (they're quite catchy) but at least I can still look up and listen to the real good stuff - Music I feel, that really matters.
Jim voice and songwriting abilities were great!I just wonder how many of jhis songs were equally created in the music words and vocals of Maury?none of his songs which he wrote has maurys name on the credits! Wonder why? This was the best duo ever! Maury equally contributed to jims success!
Good song.

If only songs were as simple, sincere and sweet as this...sigh...

@HELPTHEPICKLEISALIVE
They were both great singers--who had very different styles.
I was a senior in high school when Jim Croce died in a plane crash. I'll never forget.

So much gorgeous music coming out of those two guitars and voices. Who's that other guy playing with him?
RhythmUniverse 3 months ago
@RhythmUniverse His name is maury muehleisen. He died on the same plane as croce.

@MrJamsha14 Thanks. Such a sweet backing voice. Perfect control of vocal mix without mixing or pitch control.
Damn planes.

@RhythmUniverse yeah planes ruin everything haha

Thank God American Idol wasn't around then. Croce would never have made it and where would that have left us?
He doesn't look the type, he doesn't do soaring vocals and he sure the hell knows how to write a song. Nope, he wouldn't qualify for AM. Thank God.

Croce did some amazing stuff - brings back some excellent memories with a guy ironically called Jim (Jimmy T.0 (he couldn't get enough of this music - driving in the car and we'd play over and over again - Shar
