  • the best

  • That car is a beaut. And, man - I wish I could meet "that girl".

  • this song was about his early 70's relationship with singer laura nyro

  • Such an odd melody but such a great song. There's something so unique about it.

  • Thank you for uploading. I've been looking for this song forever!

  • Clyde Jackson hit #22 in Billboard, 11-8-80. God bless ya, for postin' it.. Thanx!

  • Always liked those little MR2s. Never owned one tho.

  • when did this come out thank you

  • My era to grow up in America at 16 yrs old. LOVED IT! ....miss it

  • LOVE LOVE this song.........always brings to mind 1980 and people trottin around in the designer jeans...

  • when this song was released, at least in my mind, the sky was bluer, summers were longer, stars were brighter....... not sure, but it seems that way to me.

  • ..it doesn't mean anything more than "he wrote a song about a friend of his who was a great singer-songwriter" (that girl could sing)

  • Jackson Browne has never "mis-preformed" in my ears. A legend that I pray will be with us for a long time to come. I never tire of his music,, and love to see him live. He is one of the few I have not had the pleasure of watching from slightly off-stage. Maybe my day will come as a newbie in the promoting form of music. All that I represent must have Jackson Browne as an inspiration. Thanks for guiding me without even knowing it, God Bless-Karen Webb Nashville TN

  • Does Jackson Browne have a video of this song? I can't find it.

This song reminds me of a gal I fell in love with. Chasing her was much like a dog chasing its own tail. The gals I fall for are usually half crazy for some reason that I don't know why.

  • Great song but what the hell is the stupid picture slide show about especially the piece of crap toyota mr2 that shows up in every other frame?

  • @7070legend That was one of the cars that Jack drove around town. He loves, old, nothing cars and pretty flowers. the other pictures were of Cape Cod.

  • @MsPatty1952 -love his humility, and love of the earth-and it's wonders-simple thngs like flowers, show his non pretintious way that is hard not to fall in love with. Thank you Mr. Browne---I have enjoyed all your CD's-old vinyls, cassette tapes-but never fell for the 8 -track! Bless you and your genious;;;;;

  • What is that electric guitar like sound in the song and solo? It sounds like a tuned down electric guitar. I can't get my guitar to sound like that!

  • THIS IS SUCH A FANTASTIC SONG. LOVE JACKSON BROWNE

  • Great Jackson song.

    Nice pictures.

Looks like an awesome place to live.

    I miss the seashore.

  • Pictures of all the flowers. Just like you Jack. I will always be your friend. Even my weed plants? I remember all of the good times and I am so happy you found some real peace in your life with Bonnie. She loves you and has since you were 19. Be happy Jack. You deserve it! Good luck with your new tour. I will pray for you. I heard you read my new book and liked it. Thanks, it means a lot coming from you. " Dreamland Hotel " That was and is our life. We are musicians and can't do anything else

  • haa just wondering but what do all those pictures got to do with the song

  • @motleycrue24 The pictures of the flowers had nothing to do with the song. It was pictures of my garden in Mount Washington, California. I think they were used because Jack and I were both so hurt to lose Laura. No one can even try to imitate her songs. They fail miserably. She was a truly beautiful person. I loved her and so did Jack. Laura and I were both from New York, where there are not many flowers, when she saw mine she loved them, so we wanted to believe that she was surrounded by them

  • The lap steel guitar makes me cry every time. David Lindley Is one of the driving forces behind alot of music. Check him out.

  • we moved to an upper class neighborhood when i was young and most everyone treated my like shit... except for one girl.. she saved me. thanx

  • mission inn

  • Hit #22 in Billboard. God bless!

  • great song, shitty car, lol.

  • Brilliant song! Jackson browne back out on tour..Got my tickets!

  • Nice slide show

  • Never knew the title of this song until recently... took a guess and found it here. So glad for youtube!!!!!!!! Love this song and his voice is so amazing.

  • I just googled Laura Nyro and saw her pictures. She was a very beautiful woman. Stunning.

  • this song was about a girl named"nico" a friend of jim morrison and andy warhol

  • Her name was Laura Nyro... She was an amazing songwriter who passed away in 1997. Maybe Nico was a nickname or something that I'm not familiar with?

  • @J0hnnyH3mps33d Absolutely right. This song is about Laura. She had three top 10 songs at the exact same time, all covered by other artists in late 1969..... Eli's Coming, And When I Die and Wedding Bell Blues. Amazing composer. All those songs are on here by her if one wanted to search them out.

  • and a sort of sister to Alan Merrill

    Amazing.

  • Love this song, the pictures....OK.. :)

  • pictures?

  • it's about Laura Nyro, with whom he ad an affair

  • Where did you read this?

  • @chris3c Laura Nyro was my friend, and yes she could sing like no one else. Jack had an affair with back-up singers and any other woman that gave him a glance. How could they resist him? But you are wrong about Laura Nyro and Jack. They were friends and he respected her talent. Laura Nyro was married and loved her husband when she knew Jack. We were both devestated when she died. She had a small child when she died. It was heart-breaking. So be sure of your facts. You could really hurt someone

  • @MsPatty1952 Laura was simply amazing! Stoned Soul Picnic is still one of my all-time favorites - not to mention And When I Die by BS&T. You're very lucky to have had such a wonderfully talented friend. I can only imagine how many other smash hits she would have written had she not passed away so young. Thanks for sharing your personal words with us. Peace and Love, Kevin

  • @chris3c are you sure? i always heard it was about valerie maffay the samer girl steve winwood wrote the song valerie about..

  • A very profound song. People have emotional stamps that are created by others they have met in their lives with whom they have shared some love and sadness with. This song is about one of those stamps and plays on that in a very effective way.

  • This paqrticular song is about a relationship with a beautiful artist, who played the role of the rebound relationship for the author. He had common ground during his relationship with her, and for that reason he reflects with some jaded sadness but empathy on how he lost her, or why he perhaps never really had her. The final line "that girl was sane" is particularly revealing of his empathy towards her, and the way in which he uses the emotional "stamp" of this relationship to get on.

  • @PCVIRGINIABEACH ya think

  • There are songs that remind me of the cars I've owned-67 SSChevelle-75 Olds Cutlass- Hell, even a 73 VW Superbeetle. I don't know if that's what you meant, but, hey! that's where it took my 45 yr old ass!!

  • I have ALWAYS LOVED this TUNE, especially the "IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT...." part, it is Classic BROWNE, his echoes are Legendary! LINDLEY rules on this tune, and RUSS KUNKEL once again on Drums, the guy is AMAZING!

  • aweeeeeeee love this

  • So where was this video shot? Like what part of the country?

  • I want to say in/or near PORTLAND, OREGON...but thats a guess!

  • I, too, heard this was about his late wife. great song, though.

  • i heard it was about his second wife, not phyllis, who committed suicide.

  • one word fushia

  • As long as a great tune reminds you of great times it's good stuff.

    Fushia....good call.

  • Two words...Ronda Page.

  • oh you did more than make a few people happy honey bless you rock on

  • I love jacj=kson brown

  • mission inn gottta love

  • love it...

  • I've always assumed this was about his wife actress/model Phyllis Major who committed suicide with overdose of sleeping pills in 1976. But maybe not.

  • Nico is a singer who sand with Mr. Browne a long time ago.

  • This song defines the soundtrack to high school... and my OLD ass.

  • Mr. 2, to bad its a automatic

  • Running into the midnight with her clothes whipping in the wind...outdoors a romantic moment. Whe wasn't much good at stickin around but that girl could sing, wonder if its about Nico? I have always wondered...Such a glorious song, but all of em are...

  • Who is Nico? (hate to inquire) Is that Ms. N. Larson?

  • So sad, so true.... Not only this girl - maybe we all could sing....

  • I love this song It brings inspratation out of sadness

  • I do too, I like Jackson Browns perspective and writing. I also like that he lives off the grid now. I would love to do that.

    Thanks for the nice words.

    Lisa

  • Im so Glad yoy posted keep up the good work God bless

  • Good Heart keep rokin

  • Jackson Browne´s girlfriend at that time, the lovely new yorker singer, composer and pianist Laura Nyro inspired him.

  • aweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • "She could have turned out to be any one...almost anyone...with the possible exception of who I wanted her to be..."

    "Talk about cellestial bodies..."

    I LOVE this song!!!!!!

  • the very living beating loving heart of the moment, this song is the sound of my soul, thanks! nice car too :)

  • Thank-You for posting this KICK-ASS classic. It takes me back to more peaceful times

  • hey good comment lol smile

  • I love everything about this song and this video...it's perfect, thank you whoever created it. I always felt like he wrote this for me back in 1977...after we spent the night together and I took off at five am...but left my coat behind so had to wake him up to get it...I did say goodbye...or maybe it was just 'see you later.

  • I think that was David Lindley on electric guitar and lap steel guitar. This was a great album, thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for the great compliments!

  • That was David Lindley on the guitar and slide great choice of tone

  • @infinitycj It is always Lindley on violin, lap steel, mandolin and any other string that others can't play. He is a great artist with no ego. He is a great friend too. Jack and him on going on tour for the first time in 20 years. It would be a good time for you to go and hear him play. I know he won't do it again. Peace & Love Patty

  • @infinitycj Yeah it's Linley. The guy is amazing, he almost always plays intuitively, off the seat of his pants.

  • this reminds me of the north east winds

  • Finally!! I've been looking for this one!! Thanks, digitalsignageforum. Who plays the slide guitar on this one? DS.

  • Well maybe not slide guitar, but you guys know what I mean. Good stuff!! "That girl could sing............" DS.

  • Had this on 8-track back in the day.
