  • Hippoposterous!

  • Have you seen my keys? They've gotta be in there somewhere. Would you mind looking around a bit while YOU'RE IN THAT HUGE FREAKIN POCKET

  • It sounds like maybe your frets are getting worn? I can't quite tell, lol. Cool video :)

  • Excellent.

  • i read the title wrong

  • ohhhhhhhh it said finger FUNK

  • are you doing a 1-3-6 hand shape?

  • You've got some of that victor wooten style. Sounds awesome.

  • it's the marcus miller jazz bass?

  • Hey Marlowe, do you string your Jazz and P basses through the body or just through the bridge. And can you explain the benefit of however you do it? Thanx

  • nice one. what kind of bass is that?

  • I bet this is the most famous bass guitar on youtube! Keep on playing! Finger or get fingered! :P (just kidding)

  • Hey dude, you are one serious player. I've been listening to your stuff for quite a while. Keep up the good work it's fantastic and I've learnt so much!

  • 10 people listen to Justin Bieber.

  • @hEINRICh6669

    10 too many I'd say.

  • AWWW I THOUGHT IT SAID MUTATED FINGER FUNK!!!! XD

  • how do you get such an AWESOME tone for that video?

  • @tbcass I've known people who have played fourty years and suck as much as when they played for one year.

How much time do you put into it every day and how hard you approach it, that's what counts.

This man here, MarloweDK is a kicking player. When I listen to him play, it makes me want to pick up my guitar and get with the funk.

  • k asco si no sabe toca jajaja...xd

  • Hey MarloweDK I love these!! Thank You

  • I fucking love this sound of bass guitar !! love it man you rock !!! ;)

  • can i ask have u produced any recorded ep's coz i could listen to your stuff for hours like instead of an actualy full song?

  • great stuff for hangover days

  • your sound it s dinamic :D , good touch

  • awsome !!!!

  • I notice you anchor your thumb on a string. After studying the Gary Willis method I learned to extend my thumb over the strings and use it for muting. It was a little hard at first but after a month or so of practice It became natural and now I do it all the time. It gives you one more tool.

  • @tbcass let him play how he wishes.

  • @nightgrip I don't know about you but I'll take any advice anybody wants to give me and I've been playing almost as long as MarloweDK has been alive. I'll leave it up to him whether to take my advice or not.

  • @tbcass I am anchoring the thumb on both the E and A strings, thats enough muting for me when playing fingerstyle, the top strings dont need

  • @RaLfiiRT u mean Fender signature Marcus Miller?

  • oouch oooo push it

  • You are really good. You must be playing for a couple decades now?

  • very nice where do you get your riffs do just make them up like i do?

  • OOOUUUHHH YEAH...

  • Dude ur touch is crazy.. i need you on my musc!

  • Thx man, your own isnt bad either:-)

  • @MarloweDK What kind of strings are you using on that bass?

  • @rodlein85 Nickel wound strings, dont remember the brand

  • @MarloweDK hey MarloweDK what is your favorite type of wood for the neck of the bass?

  • @MarloweDK who is your favorite bassist?

  • I love this groove so much

  • 0:58 i love it!

  • yeeahh tight.

  • @brandnewstart4 i can hear it

  • Dude atleast make it look like your trying please?!

  • awesome tone

  • I heart ghost notes! They're so simple, so subtle, and yet devastatingly powerful in flavoring a groove.

  • Really nice use of harmonics :]

  • ....wooooow - as usual :-)

  • greate

  • nice too!

  • awesome tone!

  • kinda reminds me of T.M. Stevens, do you listen to him at all perhaps?

  • yeaaa. T.M is a siick player. I got to hang with him one week, and play with him, and I learnt soooo much stuff. hes a cool guy.

  • I'm going one day as well!!

  • oooh man, ur killing me! this is some real nice funk! good groove, and nice punch/mute and everything! love it:D

  • really tight

  • super funky!

  • your groove is amazing

  • Victor Wooten plays this line too somewhere on youtube.

Oh man thats great grooving...your style is awesome.

    5stars

  • nice funk there man i need to learn that

  • fender ?

  • oh yea! marcus miller signature

  • That was dirty good bass playing.

  • I'm gonna learn this.thanks

  • wow... that's amazing... i've got a bass and i've been trying to figure out the slap-pop style for months!

  • great funk!!!!

  • The ringfinger mute is sick.

  • man how are your basses set up high or low action i just can,t figure out how your fingers just swim thru the strings do you still catch cramps in your hand and after 3yrs of playing bass what level do you think i sould be on i,ve been doing music all my life but when it comes to the bass i can,t get off square 1 i play in a band but sometimes i just can,t follow i get lucky sometimes and hit the right notes what scales are most used in todays music

  • just play near the bridge pickup where the strings arent so flappy

  • I dont think you could say it any better, Im a 25 year veteran of drums i just picked up bass last year and loving it, i cant seem to get the speed or how to get it together so much but I love listening to all you guys, thanks for your post

  • What scales? Um, major, and minor.

  • this is one of my favourites for sure

  • what model is the bass??

  • maybe a jazz bass fender marcus miller model (custom bass) right?

  • yeh, thats right.

They come around at $800-1000 i think

  • ok, so when i play my bass, i'm like, slammin the crap outta my strings just so i can hear it, but when you play, it looks like your barely touching the strings to get that great sound, now is that like, possibly my bass' cheap quality that is responsible is it my amp settings?

  • it has a lot to do with amp sound. in my experience, dialing in a good sound in the amp is crucial. I like it to be pretty responsive and very bassy. This way you can feel it much more and use dynamics and color and shit. i suggest turning up ur gain and refining your touch

  • alright, sweet, thanks for the advice.

  • its also mainly to do with technique ..or maybe ur strings are too old or ur bass needs to be set up properly.. to get the best sound u wanna make sure u've got all that happening b4 u go turning things up !

  • probably your strings. New strings are crunchy and delicious and respond to a light touch. YOu have to beat the crap out of dead strings to make them sing.

  • kick ass bass dawg i have the fender jass5 my question is how are you getting this tone from your bass on this video you kick a hellal fide groove sounds like one of Victor,s groove BIGG JEREMIE

  • Reminds me of Victor Wooten. Great stuff!!!

  • LOL how can you not recognise the Marcus Miller Signature? It is soooo unique... it's look, its sound... it can't be anything else

  • jesus christ markus miller fender bass !!!!!! i wouldent even look at it if its pize !!!!

  • olympic white rocks.

  • thats the marcus miller fender u jerks

  • Wait no its not, gawd he has so many basses, the other white bass which looks almost the same is the Fender Precision 1976

  • hey was just wondering what amp u use? sounds really great and i need a new one.

  • Korg "Pandora" PX4D headphoneamp/effectsbox

  • is that a fender bass? also do you have a squire bullet bass?

  • i think its a marcus miller signature bass...it would be the first white one ive seen if it is

  • sorry . def not a precision. obviously by the 2 jazz bass pickups. this is a marcus miller signature fender jazz bass. with active and passive.

  • how many years do you play the fantastic instrument which is the bass!?!?!?

  • you re a great inspiration!! your videos are so precious! thank you

  • now that how you do it!!! N I C E A+++++++++++++

  • A little Wooten style there! Love it! Can't wait to pick up my bass again when I get home from school.

  • yea speaking of jaco, how bout portrait of tracy?

  • Awesome! speaking of Jaco, I'd love to hear and see you play "The Chicken" by Jaco Pastorius. maybe even on a fretless?

  • Hey Marlowe, Ive been playing the Bass for over 5 years now, i am starting second grade state music School on Double Bass, have been playing with a few blues/jazz bands. I still cannot achivie the flow of my fingers, wich you present so perfectly. What i mean is that you so smoothly touch the bass. I don't think my guitar is not soft enaugh, as i play a Mayones Be4 custom shop. Can you propose some finger excercises to make my fingers swim on the gryph?

  • Like it alot! This bass looks like the marcus miller model. but different colour. Active though? Tell me

  • same as the last guy, I've been playing for a year, you make it look easy.

  • Son of a bitch !

This is absolutely Wonderful, your videos are so fuckin' amazing. 3 years i've played bass, and i'm feeling like a little shit xD

    Really, really Good Job man

  • ...jesus...

  • pas mal

  • man i love the tone you are getting out of that marcus, i have the same bass do you mind if i ask how you have it set up like what kind of strings do you use and how is your action?

  • Awesome groove, feel and tone dude - kickass!

  • I dig your playing man

  • Seinfeld is played on a keyboard...

  • you are my hero

  • Nice one Thomas

    greetzz

    Geullerulez

  • Sick

  • Yes, he'd like to spend most of a day tabbing it just so you can stratch your head at the tab. Really, if you can't play it by ear, do you think you're doing to be able to play it from a tab?

  • How was I being a bastard? I gave the guy a compliment. Rocco Prestia is the acknowledged master of muted finger style Funk. Nobody can do it at Rocco's level that I have ever heard. When I said he had a pretty good Rocco Prestia groove going believe me, it was meant as a compliment, esp in light of the fact he admits he is just learning how to do it.

  • why would u compare anyone to jaco...just listen and appreciate the talent and stop comparing ppl to playing gods

  • mh but Jaco is dead? :>

  • ya i agree with sircanealot the point of a jam is to just play w/e is on the top of your head not the same thing you were jammin lastnight

  • Hey all of you, FORGET TABS...they are a crutch. The better musicians NEVER USE TABS. You will never develop a good ear until you learn to break down the song by ear and figure it out for yourself. Sure it's harder at first but in the long run you'll be a better player. It's OK for the first few months but after that stop using them. It's like training wheels on a bicycle. You'll never learn to ride until you take them off. I've been playing since 1973 and have never used Tabs.

  • First few months? I think tabs deserve a little more credit than a few months. Its hard enough to develop efficient chops in a just a few months. I do agree though on working ones ear and the difficulty it can encompass though. I would recommend someone practice on technique using tabs and ear. Its like playing by the books and street. Use the tab for songs to understand rhythm, use tabs that help with certain tech. Ex. have a G tabbed, and then its octave. Use that for slap and pop practice etc

  • Tabs are a fairly recent development. I started in the early 70's. There were no tabs then. We were forced to use our ears and are better players because of it IMO.

  • Well agreed. Tabs are more of a recent thing, but writing down music dates back to the medieval times of Gregorian Chant. That is pretty much the first concept of writing music that we know of in our written history. Sheet music is by far a lot more detailing than tabs, but also much harder to read. Music was written out for the intention for having other people read it and to play it. A good for to develop ones ear is to develop their vocals. Play a note and try and hum it. Maybe w/ CM scale

  • *I did not mean to imply for you to personally try that. That was a tidbit in case anyone interested read this.

  • @tbcass: all guitar music from the 16th century and stuff like that was written in tabs ;-).

  • @Atreyu4 Well it's new to me. :-) I still think they're a crutch and are an impediment to learning improvisation and playing by ear.

  • As a bass player that has been playing for a year now, I have to say that tabs are wonderful when practicing technique and understanding the fretboard.

However, when you learn most of that, you really want to train your ears.

  • 267 vids and every single one is amazing...

  • Agreed.

  • Nice.

  • I need to learn that.

  • would you please show the slow version?

  • Nice finger funk.

  • ur awsome dude

by the way is that a marcus miller jazz?

  • It is

  • How's the badass bridge?

  • Den var fed!

  • bobbobgobgob that was fucking corny but i cant stop laughing at it

  • haha, yea it was supposed to be, but i DO like his stuff very much. my friend coined the term

  • my doctor said i need more vitamin-F, so i watched this video. funky fresh

  • LOL. King.

  • nice!!!!very nice

  • yeah

  • tasty.

  • mmmmmmmm fat n' funky delish grooves my bother

  • y dotn u have any fretless basses?

    but great job

  • some people prefere to use fretted ones, some non fretted ones, its simple as that

  • Well Fretless ones can be troublesome to figure out when it comes to reading tabs and so

  • I sumhow dont think he would have that problem...

  • no its easier, sounds like ur action is 2 high

  • Basses that are fretless also have lower "headstock bridges" - I forget the exact name for them. Doing that will all the strings to be put much lower down the neck, so if you popped all the frets out, you might want to replace that as well with a fretless piece

  • you mean the nut?

  • hmmm.......... bring it to ur shop theyl lower the bridge or nut for ya

  • reminds me of pino palladino!

    awesome!

  • what string gauge do u use?

  • This is very good;-)

  • hey are u the bass player of a band?

  • waw.. u're amazing!!

i've learn so much from u..

    thx a lot Marlowe!

  • Sweet job man.. very groovy. I like how you were able to utilize harmonics in the groove with that little back and forth thing as you raked across the strings creating this funky muted groove thing. Great work! I love it!

  • very cool

  • I play this style a lot. Well done !

  • Hey! hope you don't mind me asking, but how often do you change your strings? is having a badass bridge prolongs the life of the strings?[ie longer period of sharp tone]

  • to soullavee:

I change when the strings starts to sound dull, if i gig a lot, that mean i change more often.

badass prolongs string tone life? Havent noticed

  • is the badass a good investment?
