so much mystery and depth to Steve

that's what made him so compelling to watch

every action he did in this film meant something even if it was just getting a newspaper

a very underated actor

so much better than the likes of Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman

@mshefik1 Actually, McQueen did blow it. He didn't really care one way or another about politics until one of his detetectivs was shot and Chalmers tried to take the case away from him. Bad move, because now it was personnel. The hit men and Ross were going to pay. Chalmers would also pay in the court of public opinion.
