My original point in this tortuous discussion has been that it's an act of caricature to accuse liberals of being monsters who wake up every morning wishing for more dead babies. Valid questions. Funding will obviously be an issue, though there are options available (repeal Bush tax cuts, end war in Iraq, cut military spending, end corn subsidies). We don't have a history of public health, but we can easily start now, and the privately insured can keep their plans. Anyway, we need to do something about the high % of GDP that health care consumes.

I disagree about homelessness generally being a choice, but it's true that government funds aren't distributed very well. SSI and SSDI payments should probably be much lower, but with more housing benefits. I would agree that people have a right to live as they choose, but not necessarily with public funds. (I got in a similar argument about this re: gun control. Ha!).
You're right that the democrat mayor and governor should have handled the situation, but the president does have a responsibility to take charge of a massive disaster, and not by placing a former horse judge in charge of FEMA. You don't have a sequence of one liners, because like all bad pieces of literature, there is no body. One liners present an intro, and a punchline. I felt I answered your question re: children, in the context of them obeying myself. They are to obey me at all times just as they are to obey the constitution in adulthood, although once reaching adulthood a parent no longer has legal control of the child.
I agree absolute should be the day re: the law because we are a nation of laws.

Valid questions. Funding will obviously be an issue, though there are options available (repeal Bush tax cuts, end war in Iraq, cut military spending, end corn subsidies). We don't have a history of public health, but we can easily start now, and the privately insured can keep their plans. Anyway, we need to do something about the high % of GDP that health care consumes.
I didn't say public health care is Socialist - I said it serves the public, though this is often construed as Socialist.

There are plenty of moderates who support a public option. Also, I disagree with this one drop rule approach that views any institution serving the public as bearing the potential to turn the entire country Socialist. The country is undoubtedly still capitalist - very much so. Europe, Canada, Japan, Scandinavia, etc... they are social democracies, but they're undoubtedly capitalist, too.

You know, I actually agree with you in some ways. I don't think corporations are all bad - though of course I've got a bias for the unions that ensured a decent lifestyle for my family when I was growing up. But there's my "socialism" creeping back in again. Ha.
In short, I don't have a problem with corporations so long as they generally serve the public's welfare.

Bush's nicknames didn't carry racist connotations (though we did make fun of Texas a lot - guilty as charged) like "Hussein" does. The disregard for human life thing: again, I think it's ignoring many instances in which liberals value human life. They usually oppose the death penalty, support Amnesty International and the (sometimes vexing) ACLU, and are known to argue against the exploitation of workers. It's not so simple.
I support the 2nd amendment, but I think there's much racial paranoia.

Personally, no, I don't think so. I don't consider a mass of congregated cells a human life, especially not during the 1st trimester. I don't particularly support late term abortions, but the pro-choice camp is going to keep holding their ground for fear of a slippery slope scenario.
My main point is that I disagree that liberals are as callous as you're characterizing them here, which is why I'm contesting your comparison to a slavery mentality. Many "liberal" causes defend human rights.

I don't understand your first question.
She didn't have insurance. It took 12 weeks (that's really an estimate - this was years ago) because we had to find a doctor who would do a pro bono operation, but she also had to get a mammogram before that, which took forever because we were relying on free clinics. Don't ask me why they couldn't just do it at the hospital. I don't know why she was homeless, specifically, though she was mentally-ill.

Everyone screams abouits rights for the homeless!! what rights? for the most part homelessness is a choice,most of the homeless are that way because of drugs, alcohol or mental illness. but everytime anyone suggests getting those people off the streets, the Homeless advocates start screaming about their right to live as they choose. We didn't have public mental health institutions in California - if I remember correctly, Reagan closed them some time ago.
I disagree about homelessness generally being a choice, but it's true that government funds aren't distributed very well. SSI and SSDI payments should probably be much lower, but with more housing benefits. I would agree that people have a right to live as they choose, but not necessarily with public funds. (I got in a similar argument about this re: gun control. Ha!).

My understanding of that bill is that there was already a federal law on the books stating the same thing, but that the state laws language could be construed to include all abortions.

Nagin could have evacuated the people, but he didn't want to use the Shcool busses, they weren't good enough. Dierctly because of the individual choicfes to stay and Nagins choice NOT to evacuate the people, 1700 people died, NOT because of anything GW Bush did or didn't do. Maybe you could enlighten me as to what happens to people with, say, pancreatic cancer who need regular access for chronic illnesses. Honestly, I don't know. I once helped a homeless woman with a prolapsed uterus get care, but that only took about 12 weeks or so. Not bad, right?
