  • Those are definitely Ravens. The main giveaway is the size of the beak and their not as "antsy" as crows are. Notice how smooth and calm the movements are around the :30 mark.

  • too bad not many people appreciate the intellect of crows. here this kind of behavior would get them branded as pests

  • ive seen monkeys do this. but this is more impressive because they have no thumbs!

  • I hate Crows, I work at night and they are always hiding at places you don't expect and scare the shit out of you when flying away, once I even got attacked by one of those things. Fucking scary.

  • these ravens in japan are a lot larger than what they are in the US these guys sounds like eagles when they are flying over you

  • That crow wasn't Japanese..

    It wasn't wearing glasses!

  • The family name is corvid

  • raven is just an overgrown crow = they are in the same FAMILY.

  • Everything that goes to Japan gets 40% more intellect.

    It's God i tellz ya!

  • LOL @ michio kaku in the background in the beggining!

  • Get a tripod for your camera

  • crows are very smart. one use to help me with my highschool algebra.

  • What do you expect they are from Japan. Everything is smart over there.

  • little shits! LOL hillarious! I saw two crow friends carry off a hotdog they found in the street yesterday. one crow dropped it and got scolded by the other one. It was funny. Poor things, probably though it was their lucky day!

  • that is great video, thanks

  • you should have more steady hands or better get a tripod.

  • you should have more steady hands

  • Japanese crows are such litterbugs.

  • @limbdarkening I was thinking the same thing

  • Happy Tabla Player

  • I think it's a crow- it's just that Japanese crows are bog. Nivce vid. :)

  • wheres that black dude going with ma garbage.

  • haha garbage owned

  • such cool birds...

but i guess they contradict the point of public trash bins, if they drag everything back out and spread it in the park xD.

Would have been cool to see them bring the trash back and close the cover after they examined it and extracted the edible remains.

cool vid, and the quality wasnt that bad, have seen way worse

    Greetings from Germany

  • that's a raven. look at the beak.

  • Removing the sound is not going to help the video quality the least bit.

  • you know what would be great?

after the parrots have done their job, they would pick out the trash and put it back in the trashcan.

    :P

    good video (:

  • 1:20 Beautiful birds :O

  • those crows are pretty big

  • well, those are Japanese crows, right? No wonder they're smart :o)

  • They study hard, work hard, wear black suits and work at Sony!

  • Why? Because they are smart?

  • why dont we shoot you instead?

Im sure that bird is smarter than you are.

  • I'm concurring on the raven ID. You can see it in the beak, it's much thicker in proportion to the body than a crow's would be.

  • That actually looks more like a Raven as the body and the wings are larger than a Crow. Also great video they are such smart birds.

  • oh yea on the japanese channel they told the crow some times they ate the soap that the kindergarden used at the outside faucets and they eat it for oil it was kind of weird

  • wow! lovely to watch thanks for posting!

  • WTF

  • Oh gee, the crows kept doing that at my house. They opened the lids of our garbage bins and scattered the trash all over the place. First we just tried closing the lid firmly, but it was useless. In the end we had to put heavy blocks of wood on it so the crows couldn't lift it. x_x

  • Just wiki Jungle crows and u will see the answer.

  • Crows are lonely.

  • I think that these are ravens, not crows, for two reasons. First, they have the heavy beak of the raven and second, they seem to be a couple co-operating. Ravens usually form permanent couples.

  • Ravens are in the crow family (Corvus)

  • Not exactly. Scientifically, Ravens and Crows both belong to the corvus family, but they differ. Search the net and you will find the difference between the twi species.

  • @terraanole crows and ravens same shit

  • Crows also form permanent couples...

  • @koravius those are definitely ravens

  • we have a lot of crows at my school cos everyone never puts their rubbish in the bin, and the ones at my school are not smart at all.

  • every single group has a dumb one. see how many students in your school are smart.

  • In your school you probaly have jackdaws, not crows.

  • The crows (and reavens too) are very smart; in fact they are among the smartest of birds.

  • I read and heard that as well. They can even learn to speak but then again most (not all) birds do have the ability to speak or mimic if you will.

  • sigh the Japanese always get the best things first

  • I heard about crows in japan that get nuts eg.walnuts with hard shells and drop them in front of cars. When the car drives over nut it cracks shell and they eat the inside

  • yeah they drop em on crossings crack em then wait for red light then eat the nut while its safe on red lol

  • It's a socalled "jungle crow", a large crow species, not a raven.

  • thanks i'll change the title

  • Dogs use their strong sense of smell when they eat food. But crows judge their food with their eyes. This case was studied in Japan.

  • wow it stole a GOON bag!

  • The bag is bigger than the crow, and it still manages to fly with it! ha ha :D

  • WDF those some big fucking birds!

  • how can u tell if its a crow or a raven

  • I don't know that is why I put crows (possibly ravens)

  • oh um... also if you listen to their voices, the crow is of higher pitch than that of a raven which is like a low croak (also screams...) but yea ravens are larger than crows (mostly) and they hate each other. (well here they do).

  • you can see its a raven just by looking at the size of the beak compared to its head. The raven has a much more massive beak compared to that of the crow. The crow has a distinct shorter and thinner beak.

  • @CalvinLamb

Its Hashibuto or Hashiboso, crow not raven, but still big one.

  • @CalvinLamb Ravens are larger than crows, but it is usually hard to compare sizes without them being side by side. But Ravens also tend to have a sort of 'comb' of feathers on their head. And Ravens have a much greater range of sound than crows. One common call of a raven sounds much like a cow-bell being struck repeatedly.

However, all that information is what I know about North American crows and Ravens, so of course there may be differences between regions.

  • Incredibly intelligent. And not religious either... We could learn a lot from them!

  • It's actually a Raven, larger cousin to the crow.

  • I'm not experienced with Japanese birding, but I think it's likelier that these are Large-billed Crows (I believe they're also called Jungle Crows, Corvus macrorhynchos) than Common Ravens. These guys have a bump in the culmen that doesn't seem as ravenish and I know they're notorious for stealing garbage, more so than ravens. Though they do share more characteristics with ravens than many familiar crows do, like Carrion and American Crows so it's kind of hard to tell. At least in my case. XD

  • Amazing! I've never seen them in action only the results - camping - they totally cleaned out our groceries one time. Food had been in our tent, but the zipper was open. By the looks of it, they could have likely opened the zip. lol

  • That will be a $100 fine each for littering, please. LOL Aren't they smart? I just love those birds!

  • we have some that use the traffid stop to crack nuts. they pay attention to the signs better than a lot of pedestrians!

  • there can unbend paper clips to get food from a test tube, crazy smart!

  • holy crap.

  • Thay look to big to be crows. I think they are ravens.

  • Ok, I really don't know the difference except ravens are cooler, in my opinion. I'll try changing the title to crows/ravens. Thanks :)

  • WHOA. would have never expected a crow to do that....

  • go crows

  • hahahaha it took the bag it took the bag~ X3

  • Ravens have been shown to improvise and use actual tools, teach your retarded cat to do that. i don't know why it surprises me that unintelligent people would fail to recognize intelligence when they saw it

  • Apparently this video was taped by a crow!

  • Why do so many people say that? Are you quoting someone?

  • because its true

  • I understand, it is true. Just everyone says it......

  • but crows and ravens are very smart, compared to all other birds. they have been known to leave walnuts in the road so that cars can crush the hard shell, and then ran back into the road to eat the inside nut part.

  • Yeah i have read up on them before and i watched a couple other videos like mine on youtube. That one crow (Betsy?) that was able to make a tool and get the nut out of the box while the guy couldn't was pretty cool to read about.

  • dude, its a BIRD! Raven's (which is what i suspect these are but can't get a good enough look) have more intelligence then an alarming amount of humans! just my opinion, but there is truth in that...

  • the difference is cats or dogs that do things like open doors because of a reaction. dogs and cats will just as easily scratch or bark/meow at a door because it eventually opens (through your response to shut them up). Crows, however, make tools and solve puzzles. They are number 2-3 on the top ten most intelligent creatures for a reason. They dont just use tools to solve an issue, they create their own from twigs, feathers, or trash. They create language aswell and teach to their offspring.

  • If there are corvids around, it's not enough to just cover the trash, as you can see..

  • yeah i didn't think about it really untill i saw them THEY ARE HUGE.

  • I didnt know crows live in Japan

  • crows can exist at all places that humans exist as they eat all that human eats and more

  • Well, I know that but I never expected Japan though O_O

  • Fantastic birds.

  • It's not enough to just cover the trash if there are corvids around, as you can see!!

  • As you can see, it's not enough to just cover the trash if there are corvids around!
