14 years after the Little Big Horn, the 7th Cavalry was entrapped in a box canyon, and if it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry, there would have been a second massacre of the 7th Cav.
The Buffalo Soldiers, 9th Cavalry was rewarded with Presidential Parade Escort and Guard Duties for accomplishments, furthermore; the 9th Cav. received as many citations as most of the white cavs.
Read the epic novel, "Rescue at Pine Ridge", 5 stars Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
While we ALL know some groups of Buffalo soldiers did in fact, protect our Native peoples during different transitional periods, other bands of Buffalo soldiers maintained a fierce, violent attitude and helped to implement the deaths of hundreds of Native peoples. That aspect of American history and assistance to racist whites in the outright theft of the West is both embarrasing and shameful.
@Lochee1000 you know our American history is very complicated. They were servicemen defending a country that did not respect them. I'm sure some sympathized with Native causes but it was complicated.
The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after Little Big Horn, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th. Rescue at Pine Ridge. com.
